There’s an interview with them, and Harmon finds out during the interview and gets all passive aggressive asking why he wasn’t asked to be a part of it and why can’t he ride Roiland’s coattails. The first season of R&M is good. Harmon completely shot it in the foot.

There's actually a reoccuring thing in Harmon's work - the first season of everything he does is pretty good.

Then two things happen.

1. He gets really high off of the "fans" of the show being "smart enough" to "see what we were doing" and tailors the remaining seasons to be "rewards" to the fans. Shit is no longer funny or well-written, it's reassuring to the smart and knowledgeable fans that you are indeed smart for getting our smart and semi-meta show. The back-patting which is done to felate his own ego for making such a smart show to have such smart fans overtakes the actual quality of the show.

2. Because he gets so high off how "good" and "smart" the show is, he no longer bends to the adversity of the network, collaborators, writers, directors or cast members. No longer is there a collaboration where multiple voices are involved, challenging Harmon's word and thoughts to ensure the best end product is reached - no, now Harmon pulls rank, bringing out the viewership numbers, the DVD and merch sales, and how this proves he knows what he's doing - and unfortunately, they back off and give him just enough lee-way to slowly kill every show he's on until he finally gets kicked off when he offers the ultimatum of "me or one of the main talent, one has to go", and of course, they pick Sarah Silvermann or Chevy Chase, just like they'll pick Roiland over him as well.
