What is Yea Forumss view on suspiria and its 2018 remake?

Probably because he recognized he didn't have the chops to make a remake that was on the same level as the original. In the same way that sometimes when an actor is taking on a role that had been done before, they try to make it 'their own' instead of just trying to emulate the same mannerisms of whoever played the role previously.

I don't think the remake is good, but I can see why the director would actively try to avoid vibrant colors and music.

Gonna watch the original for the first time tonight.
It was between that and Marketa Lazarova. I've been meaning to watch Marketa, but I've been watching so many bleak medieval movies that I need something colorful. Hope Suspiria is what I'm in need of.

Mother Suspiriorum was the old hag in the original, not Susy. Director's own good/bad twist. People who enjoyed the original won't enjoy the remake.

I liked the ending, my problem was the doctor's subplot took too much screentime.

Susy wasn't the Mother in the original, she was just some fucking American student who slew the Mother and caused the school/coven to crumble into ruin. The ending in the remake was dumb and artsy, and was, in the director's own words, purely for female empowerment. Retarded. No horror. No majesty. The actual Mother was a fucking haunting enigma in the original, not some dumb twist.

Original is good but it's Argento so a lot of things don't make sense and it frustrates me because of that.

Remake is okay, and I guess it makes more sense, but it's too long and drab looking. Also Tilda as the old man is an odd choice and that subplot probably should have been shortened considerably or taken out altogether.

Cut out Dr. Swinton and shave it down to the original's runtime, and the remake becomes a decent film. The setting was completely irrelevant, none of the main characters outside of the doctor were even aware of it nor did they reference it. You could just as well have set it in modern LA.

Original is kino, remake was... Alright I guess.

I own the dvd of the original that I rented from netflix (back in the red envelop days), I lost it then found it couple weeks later and they just let me keep it
