Late 90s were literally the first rumblings of the triggered left, I'm sure there were complaints. As I recall the show Ally McBeal got tons of shit for the main girl being too hot and skinny

Probably because
>gets a female actress that accurately portrays the original character including her physical features as humanly possible
Instead of
>get a stick fridge actress because a sexy woman is problematic

they did but you did't know about it because internet wasn't a thing
angjo was awful as lara and the movie sucked so much... but it was still much better than recent reboot and recent games

Because it was filmed before 2013.

god she was so hot in that movie

She was a great Lara but I agree the films sucked, completely disregarded the exploratory and isolated nature of the games for cheap thrills

Attached: hacker_gf.jpg (288x360, 27K)

The first movie was fun. It was true enough to the games. A solid 6/10

Huh? She explored quite a bit. Illuminati involved too. Literally raided a tomb. What more you want?

The early games were about Lara all alone, just exploring tombs and solving puzzles. Playing it you felt alone and creeped out with little human interaction, just wild animals and dusty relics. It was a great and original experience that is nothing like the movies where she is shooting goons left and right like she's in the fucking Matrix

Because it was empowering for women

I think it was supposed to tie in with Tomb Raider Legend (Crystal Dynamics) instead of these classic Core Design games.

so just play the game instead of watching the movie.

Maybe. Maybe we were just young. I recall running through some euro town escaping bad guys

social media didn't exist and the internet was still new to the public conscious.

I can and have, doesn't make my criticisms less valid. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the films as fun trash of that era, and they are better than mainstream films today, but I'd really love a film true to the games. It would be cool

No I replayed them very recently on my computer

>the villains are old white guys
>Lara is rich as fuck, a better fighter than professional mercenaries, and a better historian than professional academics
>makes fun of her butler's attempts to get her to stop being a murderous thot
>still saves the world
It's a pretty progressive movie, OP.

You just don't notice because it doesn't make a point of emphasizing these themes.

Why did they tone down her tits in the new movies

>doesn't make my criticisms less valid
it does. you're critiquing the film on something outside of the actual quality of the movie.

A fair response, but surely you understand my frustration at having a perfect casting choice for Lara and not making what could be a great, very atmospheric adventure film. I really do enjoy the movies as they are regardless

As a younger man I thought these movies were trash. They completely fucked up Lara, I said. They were nothing like the games, I said.

Then the 2013 reboot happened and now these movies are basically the gospel retelling of the PS1 games compared to NuRaider.

Right, as long as you disregard all the other games in the series after the first, where she regularly interacted with and killed henchmen and competitors.

1st game was great, loved it! It was just like you said
2nd one was more action packed, they added a lot of enemies and less interesting locations such as opera or oil rig.
3rd one was so bugged I couldnt finish it, it had cool story and final stage had "The Thing" vibes,
4th one is my fav. Egyptian tombs and temples. Mostly alone, with very few enemies. Insane hard puzzle and complex locations full of traps and lot of exploration.
I didn't like 5th one that much.
Angel of Darkness had great ideas and LOVED Louvre parts but then it went downhill for full sci-fi mode.
Legend was amazing, although more action packed, still had "Tomb Raider" vibes. So had Anniversary and Underworld too.
Most recent reboots suck. It's more survival and action. Primitive puzzle and game leads you by the hand.

>lets take a series about a hot independent woman who explores tombs and turn it into "skinny female lesbian Rambo who scales cliffs and kills Russians"

sounds great

Attached: the last revelations.jpg (1200x750, 134K)

My feelings exactly.

OG Lara always put diplomacy first, going so far as to banter and coolly extract information from mercs who were ACTIVELY SHOOTING at her. Even charmed a cannibal tribesman who wanted to eat her.

NuLaura just cries and murders thousands of men and cries some more.

Attached: 1547090659605.jpg (580x548, 34K)

Yeah but she isn't as hot

nvm, it sounds like shit now

Fucking ace.
S+ rank theme music, too.
youtube.com/watch?v=lVaIubv6uDs

The sequels were more action packed but compared to the films they were closer to the original game. There's a difference between "regular interaction" and constant shoot em up shit

perfect casting but shitty movie

The best adventure game ever. Valley of the Kings, Karnak ruins, Sphinx complex, Cleopatra's palace..
I'd love to see HD remake of it. Graphics sucked butt.

Listen here user, that new DOOM movie is gonna be absolutely fuckin trash. When it comes out and it turns out to be dogshit and you ask yourself why are videogame movies so bad go and watch the 2005 DOOM movie.

It is ALRIGHT. Its entertaining, is not dumb, and the Rock gives a quite nuanced performance, something we'll never see from him again now that he's superstar level. Yeah is basically a zombie movie but at least it respects the viewer's intelligence.

I'm going back more and more to the early videogame movies and turns out they're not terrible, we're just a idiotic demographic

Too bad people were too busy playing Halo to buy Tomb Raider: Anniversary. If that game had been a success they would have remade the entire originals series

Anniversary was dope. At least untill Atlantis levels but Greece and Egypt were 10/10.

I tend to agree. Silent Hill especially is, I think, the best video game movie ever--even with some creaky joints, it captures the aesthetic and melancholy of the games perfectly.

I honestly think the "video game movie curse" is an absolute fucking nothing theory and the problem just stems from studios giving the projects to directors who don't know/don't care about the games.

>You just don't notice because it doesn't make a point of emphasizing these themes.
And that is point.
The film never wasted time explaining how amazing, hot, strong and smart Lara was, they showed how amazing, hot, strong and smart she was. You can see the opposite of this in the new Captain Marvel.

the story was forgettable but there was some good action in it

I disagree. Egypt level in Anniversary was shit. Full of annoying time runs and acrobatics. You couldn't explore it like in The Last Revelation. Although Sanctuary of Scion was very nice.
Greece was kino.

her milk jugs were perfect for the triangle shaped tits of Lara in the old games

>Greece was kino.
I don't know why but Midas hand death gave me boner.
youtube.com/watch?v=UgRCv3REyjc

I still have to watch it, but is on my list. Thanks for the reminder.

I'm a firm believer the Super Mario Bros movie is actually pretty damn good for what it is. Gamers are just not very good movie critics and eat what the media told them like a bunch of NPCs

It hits the right sweetspot for this kind of flick where it's not up its own arse, but it still takes itself seriously that you can get into it (unlike modern "cheesy" movies that constantly need to point out they're self aware of how dumb they are).

She was literally the perfect choice, what the fuck are you on about Vikander?

/thread

get a load of this pleb faggot

Attached: 1552574731115.jpg (250x237, 8K)

That's one of the reasons Tomb Raider doesn't translate to film well at all, and it's an extension of the fact video games generally speaking as a medium don't either. They're built around being interactive experiences that you just cannot replicate with a 90-120 min movie.

Shit movie but does that "all alone" well, even if it's a team instead of 1 person. Agree, it's hard to translate early Tomb Raider games into movies.

Attached: the-pyramid.jpg (720x483, 259K)

Late '90s Angelina was a mid C cup (a titty monster compared to Vikander) but she still wore pads for the extra boost.

I want lips like the tomb raider. I got these flat lips. Dem ain't sultry.

Are you the same guy who recommended this film to me a year ago? I've had this film on my HD for that long. I think I'll watch it tomorrow

Which thread was it? What was it about?

twitter is one of humanity's biggest mistakes

honestly, I'd rate twitter at just under nuclear proliferation and out of control bio weapon as threats to the human species

It's great for comedian one liners but that's about it.

It was a thread about "teams investigating a building" if I recall correctly. I'm a pathetic alcoholic with no real long-term memory so I could be wrong

Why is it that big lips on non-black women make my dick rock hard but big lips on black women look disgusting when it's one extremely common for them?

Because the rest of the black women's features are bad.

Many of my first nuts were blown to Angelina in this movie and gone in 60 sec.

Then Christina Aguilera's come on over baby music video came out.

Tomb Raider: Legend didn't come out until five years after the movie was released

it was an ok movie

The two closest games released around the time of the movies were Chronicles in 2000 and Angel of Darkness in 2003. AOD was supposed to be released along side the first movie but was delayed to the second. It being completely unfinished and the sorry state of the second Jolie movie put Tomb Raider on ice until Legend came out.

It seems like hyperbole, but it's completely true and the world would be unquestionably improved were twitter to disappear.

>where she is shooting goons left and right like she's in the fucking Matrix
I think Tomb Raider II was the worst offender for that out of all the older Tomb Raiders. You're constantly fighting mafia and cultist guys throughout the game.

Attached: 597391_orig.jpg (640x667, 151K)

Yeah but compared to the reboot games it's almost non-existent. There is still plenty of tombs and puzzles, which is all I want.

Between 1 and 2 it looks like they only added more polys to her tits. Priorities I guess.

Because it came out years before the current generation of whiny insecure men roamed the internet crying about women and SJWs.

Yes but it didn't come out before SJWs, so there's a problem with your timeline

Pretty much. Also the upgraded model had a segmented ponytail with physics(affected by gravity, flowing in simulated wind, colliding with Lara's body as she maneuvered/tumbled around).
Impressive for PS1 era graphics, even if she was the only in-game character with such a feature.

Attached: tr 2 lara.jpg (800x600, 31K)

Why would anyone?
Angelina Jolie looked fucking perfect for Lara Croft. In terms of an actor looking similar to a character I don't think you can get any better than that.

Why would men protest a movie with prime Angelina at the height of titty monster Lara's run? I think you've repeated your strawman to yourself so much you actually believe dudes are complaining about women in movies and not shit-brained progressives and feminists acting like they're reinventing the wheel to make other shit-brained feminists cream themselves.

Rhona Mitra, the first model to portray her, could actually do quite well too I think. She's not as big a star as Jolie, but she isn't any worse an actress.

I liked her in the edgy 90s Beowulf film

Attached: rhona_mitra_beowulf.jpg (600x389, 73K)

>Why would men protest a movie with prime Angelina at the height of titty monster Lara's run?

Because muh strong wymyn leading character triggers people in the current era of perpetual male victimhood complex.

This movie did the whole badass woman thing better than like just about every example nowadays.

Ehem

Attached: IMG_2607.jpg (1200x1688, 1.93M)

No, what triggers them is filmmakers acting like what was once just another boring-to-appreciable film trope of the '80s,'90s, and early '00s is now treated as some fucking political grandstand that everyone must get on board with for a typically progressive laundry list of horseshit ideas that are always hitching a ride alongside. Progressive twats have politicized that shit to the point they, again, act like every Mila Jovovich stereotype is some majestic treatise on gender politics and needs to be accordingly worshiped. You're pulling some flat brained "both sides," faggotry here when it's obvious to anyone with more than two brain cells to rub together that the second part of your contention is entirely an organic and deserved pushback against obnoxious as fuck corporate virtue signaling and hamfisted political gestures.

Nobody complained about Angelina's Lara back then on those grounds for a reason.

And that reason is that we didn't have social media in its current form. If this came out today Yea Forums would be harping on the movie over Angelina Jolie's own personal politics and how she has adopted kids and doing YAAAASS QUEEEN memes left and right.

There was nothing to protest. It is a silly action adventure and everyone knows that.

So much is different now that it hardly bears comparing. Angelina went from "I'll suck your dick from the motorcyle's sidecar," crazy to "I hate my biological children because they're white," crazy. It's debatable whether she'd even do anything like Tomb Raider given what she thinks now. Again, what you're talking about is a backlash that has grown in direct opposition to an overbearing political culture that is unrelenting and constant. It seems odd to take issue with the response and not the overwhelming cause of it.

This movie was great and Angelina is a great example of a strong female lead before the SJW era.

Feminism was big in the 90's although it was mostly punks and Tom boys

Which is sad, because she became a particularly virulent case of SJW madness herself.

Calista has admitted she had personal issues where she ate way too little and worked out way too much while making Ally McBeal. So the criticism that she looked unhealthily skinny as fuck was legitimate.

The cause is bunch of men throwing a fit over people wanting better representation and diversity.

Nice of you to show your true colours. Ask yourself why men were just fine with female leads before people like you started having political rallies around them and then downplaying your endlessly annoying proselytizing behind baseless platitudes like you just did.

Which would undoubtedly be in response to dozens of 'Why You Have To See Tomb Raider For Feminism,' and 'New Tomb Raider Proves Men Should Take a Backseat' articles.

It's a simple answer, because before they were mostly portrayed as scantly clad sex objects for horny male teenagers to jerk off to.

You are the problem if you get triggered over stupid clickbait articles and perceive it as a form of male oppression.

Wonder Woman doesn't really have anymore of her body covered than Lara did in the first Tomb Raider. They made a point of hiring an ass double for Brie Larson in Captain Marvel to make sure the character looks good. Scarlett Johanson routinely wears pretty skin tight catsuits in shit like the MCU and GITS.

You wanna try again with that answer? You're trying very hard to ignore the obvious culprit that everyone actually complains about, you know, the fact intersectional cultists like yourself treat these movies like political rallies and propaganda now, which happens to be exactly what most people are complaining about before you twist that into a shit brained strawmen about rejecting female characters as a whole to justify your victimhood and reinforce your godawfully annoying behaviour.

>Wonder Woman doesn't really have anymore of her body covered than Lara did in the first Tomb Raider

Because it doesn't emphasize her sexiness the wayTomb Raider does and objectify her as a sex symbol first, woman second. The way women are portrayed has changed because it's no longer just "she has to look hot as fuck in every scene"

Explain specifically what makes a tank top and shorts "sexiness first, woman second" and what makes a skintight catsuit with cleavage or a miniskirt with high heeled boots female empowering

If that were remotely true they wouldn't have bothered with an ass double for Brie, user. You know that. They were perfectly fine letting Sigourney Weaver's flat ass speak for itself in the Alien movies, which she spends most of the time completely dressed in. No one was complaining about that one.

You know damn well why people complain, and you know it's not because you and the rest of your moronic ilk have suddenly reinvented the wheel and sliced bread, it's because you imbue these films with your pants on head retarded ideology and when that comes through and has about the same effect as a twangy christian rock band singing about fucking Jesus six thousand different ways you turn into a gaggle of authoritarian red guard wannabes shutting down any dissent and lecturing down from on high about the moralistic failings of anyone who dare criticize the fact you're turning once entertaining properties into shallow propaganda.

It has nothing to do with a blanket rejection of women and the fact you think that is a testament to the shit weasel idea that your eyeroll inducing brand of feminist preaching is synonymous with women and their betterment as a whole. That level of arrogance is expected, and it's yet another reason why people fucking hate you and any sort of entertainment you have a creative hand in.

Scarjo's clothing in Avengers movies has progressively moved away from emphasizing her cleavage.

Yeah look how empowering this is. I like how she unzipped her suit to cool off while kicking ass, clearly a purely functional decision. Just like her meticulously curled hair perfect for tactical operations.

Attached: 1535672354498.jpg (547x640, 55K)

Explain. Specifically.

It's starting to make sense why progressives can't stop sucking Islam's dick.

Great job showcasing from what they've been actively moving away from.

>moving away from

Lets take a look at the feminist ICON Wonder Woman!
Look at her empowering high heeled stripper boots, leather corset and miniskirt hanging barely above her ass. So progressive! If I saw someone wearing this in real life I totally wouldn't think that she was coming from some kind of sex party, nope. Unlike a cotton tank top and pair of shorts. That shit is across the line, clearly they only exist to appeal to men and no woman in her right mind would ever wear such a thing.

>moving away from

Doesn't emphasize cleavage the way this does.

>let's just stop padding her bra
What were they thinking?

Algorithm-powered social media in general is what's dangerous. Twitter is just a particular form of stupid because the character limit promotes the dumbing down of ideas. The algorithms that filter out all of the "yucky" stuff make you more tribal no matter what your political leanings are.

Let's not forget the reason Vision was distracted when he accidentally shot Rhodes down in Civil War.

It's almost like looking good or the lack thereof isn't what's causing the overwhelming amount of backlash here.

Get real, the zip is pulled down the exact same amount, the only difference is the vest, which is also unzipped, in IW. Nice of you to ignore the examples of her GITS outfit, Brie's ass double, an the fact heroine's of the past were allowed to be flat and scrawny.

Attached: scarlet-witch-civil-war.jpg (452x752, 39K)

Damn, where'd the SJW-totally-not-pretending-to-not-be-one go?

Small tits are just great.

>no protests

less faggots back when that came out

because people don't have weird, pathological issues with paramount pictures

silent hill completely misses the point of the games, and not just on arbitrary levels. the aesthetic is there (points for that) but the nuanced themes of silent hill are completely thrown out the window.

reminder that the director of the silent hill movie put forward a script of only female characters. sean bean was written into the movie as an afterthought. to loosely quote the director, he just thought that the role of harry should be a 'mother.' it didn't make any sense for him that a father would do any of that.

>Late 90s were literally the first rumblings of the triggered left, I'm sure there were complaints. As I recall the show Ally McBeal got tons of shit for the main girl being too hot and skinny
It caught shit because she looked anorexic and people complained that the show was glamorizing anorexia.

cringe and bluepilled
based and redpilled

Reminder that she literally wore a triangular bra to look closer to the source material
