I haven't seen any of these
i only watched the 3rd movie and it was just fucking retarded
Name your top 10 horror movies of the 2010s right fucking now
Left is top 10 all time. The other 2 are fine.
Kys
So you stopped posting your soihorror macros to focus exclusively on those 3?
i agree, if someone doesnt love the vvitch, their taste in horror is objectively trash
The Witch is one of the best horror movies ever.
1>3>2
It Follows = reverse reverse reverse pseudo it's great
You didn’t get btfo enough in the last thread? Sage
All these fucking plebs in this thread. Hereditary is the only kino of those three. OP is unfortunately still a fag.
>How to identify people with plebeian taste in horror
Oh that's easy, it's the fact they watch horror at all
Replace all three with It Follows and you're on to something.
Hereditary was good but forgettable
It Comes at Night is an overrated piece of shit
The Witch, Coherence, I Saw The Devil are 3 top horror movies of the 2010s
I should have dumped my exGF the second she said she loved Heredditary
This. Horror is a terrible genre
Evil Dead 2013 is borderline as well.
It Comes at Night is the only good one but its not a horror film
>the Sarah thread got deleted
this
>t. capeshitters
The absolute best Horror has to offer, of all time, only gets close to a 7/10. It's on the same level as capeshit
>it's an OP will never post his top 3 thread
> their top 10 horror films of the 2010s
yeah because this was such an amazing decade, right?
the witch is definitely on the best horror of the last years
I only liked Hereditary because it made me use my noggin to decipher all the BS.
Replace Hereditary with It Follows.
None are on my top ten but I really like the first two movies.
>Hereditary
Pure shit
>It comes in the night
Utterly medicore
>The VVitch
Great film, but great as a period piece first and a horror movie second.
any good recommendations? i used to love horror movies as a kid, but nowadays they all seem so stupid and repetitive.
I one i liked was babadook, all time favourite is probably nightbreed
>It Follows
>The Babadook
>Cabin in the Woods
euthanasia core
The Witch is certainly the best, pic related is excellent, The Wailing, I Saw The Devil, what else that was released was even good? It Follows and Babadook are okay but surely there's more genuine horror kino from the last several years
Love Witch is SO comfy
i dont want redditors knowing about them and tainting them with their pleb fingers
This user gets it completely
i saw the devil isn't horror. babadook is utter shit, it follows is trash, the wailing is based.
in the mouth of madness was really great imo. most horror movies are really bad though. any recs?
He won't. It's literally the same guy making these threads.
i literally named 10 in the last thread and no one responded. which was to be expected since i know you guys never heard of them. why should i keep posting them?
The witch was god tier though
Idgaf if it's considered horror or not
the digits have spoken. they must be reposted.
VVitch and Hereditary are GOAT horror movies though when I had started believing nobody could make genuinely great ones anymore beyond meme ones that people pretended were good (It Follows)
It Comes at Night is literal fucking trash though
I Saw the Devil is unironically the worst movie I have ever seen. Fuck you and anyone else who praises it.
The Witch is shit.
Watch pic related.
Now THIS is good 2010s horror.
Makes the Witch feel like Scary Movie 2.
i don't believe you lol
>The Witch is shit.
Wrong.
I'll add it to the list but The VVitch is still great
This was horrorkino
1. Logistics (2012) - Dir. Erika Magnusson
2. Modern Times Forever (2011) - Dir. Bjornstjerne Reuter
3. Matrjoschka (2006) - Dir. Karin Hoerler
4. The Clock (2010) - Dir. Christian Marclay
5. River of Fundament (2014) - Dir. Matthew Barney
>I hate these movies, doesn't that make me smarter than anyone who likes them?
These threads are infinitely more pretentious than anyone who likes these movies.
damn that looks sweet. where can i watch it
it's not shit but after watching Hagazussa: A Heathen's Curse, the Witch feels very accessible and restrained in comparison.
A Heathen's Curse captures what the Witch was going for, and capitalizes on it much mores successfully.
It's the patrician alternative to The Witch. If you liked The Witch, you'll love Hagazussa.
rarbg.to has it

all shit
>Modern Times Forever (Stora Enso Building, Helsinki) is a 2011 film by Danish artists' group Superflex. It is currently the second longest film ever made, lasting 240 hours.
Any film should be out for at least 10 years before being considered in "top x" lists.
>not watching it in one sitting
this board is full of plebs
>Can't do a "top movies of 2018" until 2028
Damn that's like every episode of The Simpsons
This.
Yea Forums memed me into watching Hereditary. I should have trusted my gut, which is that all horror movies are garbage. Nothing but jump scares and plots that rely on the utter stupidity of the MC.
The Witch is great. Haven't seen the other two.
Also really like It Follows.
lol
I remember when Yea Forums used to praise The Babadook all the fucking time.
Now it's all but forgotten. Funny how that works.
>In a remote Alpine village in the 15th century, the orphan Albrun grows up to become a marked woman. The scapegoat of ancient superstitions and monstrous misogyny, this self-styled witch begins to assert her otherworldly birthright.
>monstrous misogyny
you almost got me, kike
In the most literal sense of the word horror, the film The Living and the Dead horrified me to my core. The only film that has achieved that. Brutally realistic acting. Be careful with this one.
hollywoodian pleb taste detected.
Best horror of 2010s is The Greasy Strangler
the only good horror movies i've seen in years are the descent 1 & 2, sinister ( sequel was trash ), grave encounters ( sequel was trash ) and the blair witch project ( also has a trash sequel ).
Anyone piling on babadook is a pleb i swear to god i just wanna shit on your face until i get to space
they don't like it now because it's popular / on netflix. along with everything else
Bikini Swamp Girl Massacre
babadook was never good.
Slashers are unironically the only good horror films
Inside was great
I only watch horrors with hot sexy grils so most recently I liked Look Away
This.
So of course Yea Forums praised it because they're a bunch of retards.
That movie fucking sucks, though, and It Follows is good (which Yea Forums shits on so you know that means it's good)
cringe
based as a matter of fact
recommend me some absolute top tier slash
Reminder: quality is subjective
Reminder: your taste does say something about you as a person
Reminder: if your taste at all resembles the purely contrarian edgelord-tier flickathon that the majority of the legitimately incel mouthbreathing population of Yea Forums promotes, kill yourself immediately
dat butt
Soi horror garbage
kek it's referring to a scene where something very bad happens to the girl.
The protagonist does horrible things in this movie, it does not portray women in a positive light whatsoever.
have sex
even the people you're trying to bait at this point have seen this image so many times that it's not going to work
find something better to do with your time
was the movie based off the comic? i actually bought TP the other day.
I think ive finally just been memed into watching hereditary if for nothing else than to participate in bashing it
Eraserhead is kino
The rest are eh.
There's better alternatives to each movie listed there.
Witch: Heathen's Curse
Rosemary's Baby: The Tenant
The Shining: Tim and Eric's bedtime story mansion episode.
Enjoy, it's a pretty fun movie.
This. The woman creeped me the fuck out.
You should watch it
Low IQ. I remember there being some really dumb shit in that movie, like the woman surviving impossible shit and the coop being an utter retard.
Either make the villain a fully monstruous human being or a diabolic entity. Don't make it human and then have it survive impossible human situations, it breaks immersion.
The 2006 or 2016 one?
do you even realise how autistic you sound
Trips checked
he's right though, if you want to make a realistic movie there's no space for shit like that zombie cop
>d-da 2006 originhul or da nw murican remake one//??
They consider "horror" movies worth watching
Nigga I don't think I've even seen 10 horror films from the 2010s.
Nu-horror is so disappointing
1o kino horor fiIms of 20l0s?
here ya go
2007. It's french.
Go back and watch it. There are a lot of subtle things I missed on my first watch.
Go suck off your bull fag
Neon Demon was absolute trash
Witch was great
Haven't seen the others
I've been on a horror binge lately and nothing really phases me anymore like it used to when I was younger. Until I watched The Visit. That is some terrifying, atmospheric shit with good jumpscares. Probably works so well because it's found footage/fake documentary. Also Olivia DeJonge.
It was the creepiest horror film I'd seen in years. The fact that Yea Forums shits on it should be evidence enough that it's kino.
just trying to give you some life advice friend
if you really want to waste that much of your time curating and updating a shitty bait image, go right ahead
Like what? Not the guy you're responding to, but I'm curious
ah Mother is an amazing movie even better than Rosemary's Baby.
has anybody seen the movie adaption of stephen king's rose red? scared the shit out of me when i was younger.
Love Witch looks good, thanks for bringing me into the know
i wouldnt call it horror but its fantastic
The VVitch was such fucking garbage Jesus.
And the worst part is its fans that go "dude is it too slow for you? Lol brainlet"
Lol, brainlet
>the best horror can be is 7/10
Okay but seriously dude is it too slow for you?
>the worst part is when people insult my intelligence, that really grinds my gears
t. brainlet
Its been awhile but I remember it has hidden supernatural elements. You can see the woman as a ghost in the house moving in between frames before the invasion even starts.
Here's a really good short horror film. Deserves more credit.
that movie is gay lol
This film is one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen. I hated pretty much everything after watching it. I'm grateful to the user that recommended it to me months ago in one of these threads, but holy fuck does it ever weigh on you.
I've seen far slower films
No Mr. Straw it's when it is implied that if you like the movie = big brain and if you don't like the movie = small brain, because you know the pretentious Anons that say it genuinely believe in it. The movie's tryhard artsy feel and forced old english dialogue, faking itself as this intellectual "actual good horror" production, attracted pseuds and underage film students like moths
Suspiria wasn't that great, and this is coming from someone that was waiting for this all year. The first hour and a half drags, and I mean DRAGS. The boneitis scene is cool, but it's not nearly as bad as people have made it out to be. The side plot with Dr Klemperer is useless as well. It goes nowhere, and the movie could be made much trimmer and flow much better if he was removed. It really doesn't do the movie's 2 1/2 hour run time any favors. And yes, he was played by Tilda Swinton. I get it. She's a great actress and a chameleon. Not this time. The fact this old doctor spoke with a chick's voice completely distracted from the movie. It constantly reminded you that this is just Tilda Swinton in a suit. When Mia Goth finds Chloe the movie does swing into high gear, though. Really picks up at that point, and the visuals from here on out are spectacular, but overall, and I'm sorry for using a buzzword, soulless. Not once do these lavish scenes hold any real substance. They look great, yes, but aside from the final dance ritual, what do they really weigh on the story, or the film even? They're shots for shot's sake, and all the people that like to come down of Refn for style over substance (not true, btw) you'll have a field day with this one. This movie could honestly be the new worst offender for style over substance. I do like that they changed the ending from the original, but overall it wasn't really a good film, and the more I ponder over it, the more I don't like it. It's a shame, I had real high hopes for Suspiria, and was hoping this would be yet another return to form for horror. It wasn't. It was self indulgent, and it reminds me of a kid saying smart sounding things pretending to be smart. Stick with the original.
Possesion is the most kino horror film and jacob's ladder is the second
Can second this. It's about 40 minutes but fantastic. And for all you faggots going on about Lovecraftian shit, here's one that does it right.
>t. tiny brain
have you seen many other guadignino films? Do you think a similiar criticism holds true for those?
Because like with A Bigger Splash, or Call me By Your Name, both films are really rather slow with a lot of headroom, and the beautiful setting and feeling of them does the heavy lifting. I find it hard to imagine how his style would translate to a claustrophobic horror film when his films normally rely on extremely beautiful settings and characters relaxing in them.
Oh man. That was one fucked up film. To the point the lead actress attempted suicide after the premiere.
You're probably some retarded Mexican who can't read subtitles. You probably watch 80's slashers
I have not seen any other thing he's done other than Suspiria. I went into Suspiria on the hype from early screenings and my love for the original. After seeing Suspiria, I really have no desire to see anything else he's done.
Now replace It Follows with The Bye Bye Man 3x and you're on to something.
I found out about it on one of these threads as well. Truely a haunting movie.
Dude you're missing out
Atleast watch Call me By Your Name
It's a masterpiece.
I'm reluctant to see the new Suspiria too because I also love the original. I just don't think any of his skills or traits would translate to horror except a long history working with Tilda Swinton, and even that I'm surprised to hear, didn't work.
Is that why I've never been able to find it anywhere? It's not even on Amazon when I search for it, even when they don't have movies available to watch they still show up but it just says "this movie is unavailable at this time" but with Possession it literally doesn't show up. Was it banned or something?
I'm okay with people saying it's overrated but calling it the worst movie you've ever seen is retarded.
The fact that so many books still name Suspiria (2018) as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" Giallo remake ever only tells you how far horror still is from becoming a serious genre. Drama critics have long recognized that the greatest drama film of all times is Citizen Kane, which was not the most famous, or best selling of its time, let alone of all times. Action critics rank the highly controversial "The Last Jedi" over Star Wars films that were highly popular with audiences. Horror critics are still blinded by commercial success. Suspiria (2018) sold more tickets than anything else (not true, by the way), therefore it must have been the greatest. Drama critics grow up watching the great dramas of the past, Action critics grow up watching classic action. Horror critics are often totally ignorant of classic Giallo, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that that Suspiria (2018) did anything worthy of being saved.
I'm not quite sure, but it's more than likely it was probably banned. It's completely fucked.
Literal newfags in here
Horror critics that don't know the works of Bava, Argento, and Fulci that yet still want to make commentaries on giallos are not real critics or anyone any serious horror fan would take with a grain of salt or show any respect to. It's like a video game reviewer that doesn't play past the first level, or who would say how Megaman 11 is a great return to form yet they haven't played a Megaman before 9.
Which one of them
What else is there?
My gf told me that apostle was a better movie than the Thing
Call me By Your Name is trash, though.
The VVitch was good. ATJ was hot af, and it was a well done story. It Comes at Night was sub par and will be forgotten in no time. Hereditary was hard to sit through.
Wtf? I saw that movie years ago.
isabelle adjani
Break up with her. She's trash.
your girlfriend is a patrician
uhhh uhhh The Witch, It Comes at Night, and Hereditary
What an idiot you are. You can say that it's flawed, or that you didn't like it. But there are some blatantly obvious real strengths to the film. It's clearly not just 'trash'. This need to classify everything as either brilliant or trash is pathetic.
It's like you cunts are not really capable of judging the quality of anything, or giving any kind of measured response.
Don't be so cuntish, "trash" means I didn't like it. If you want a real gay film watch I Love You Phillip Morris.
I've only seen The Witch and it was fucking weird for fucking weirdos

You are a gay, my dude
Possession
Almost like you should have verbalised the fact that you were watching a shitty movie.
It could have even been a fun time because of how bad it was - in fact, paranormal activity is perfect fodder for being watched ironically. Friendships can literally be built on the back of "bad horror" movies. Liking (or pretending to) schlocky b-tier horror movies is a huge cultural trend.
You have based the entire failure of that relationship on something which if anything was life doing you a huge favour.
soihorror
>missing the best part
It's a 10-day long film of one shot showing a building decaying over 1000 years
wet wet
why didn't you like it
here's another trait of idiots
>oh, this other tangentially similar film exists, and i'll reference it, so clearly what we're talking about is redundant
>film has been effectively banned for decades
>lol he hasn't seen it what a newfag!
It's not offered on any streaming sites, not even "illegal" ones like Putlocker, and physical copies cost 80 bucks or more online because they've been out of production for years. I know of the film, I've known about it for about 15 years, but I've never been able to find it anywhere for a reasonable price, and torrenting isn't an option.
But yes, clearly I'm a newfag.
I'm tired of gay movies having nothing going on except the characters being gay, no plot, no depth, just the same romance drivel it's been done a million times with a man and a woman but this time we're supposed to be in awe because "they're two dudes! wooow... this is daring and exotic." We deserve better. And no, this movie doesn't explore the age-difference -- there's literally not a single dialogue acknowledging it. Whatever you want to read in this film must be projected by the viewer, because the script can't be arsed to explore anything; every single character is supportive of the homosexuality, for example.
Why isn't torrenting an option?
>6.2/10 on imdb
and people wonder why nobody trusts ratings anymore
Imagine being this retarded
this is like saying Signs is top 10
there aren't even 10 good horror films made in the 2010s
Long story
but like... what was the problem? were you bored by the pacing?
Signs is kino and you're a fucking pleb
If this movie is not in your top ten you are a pleb. youtube.com
>Almost like you should have verbalised the fact that you were watching a shitty movie.
I did
What, you can't briefly summarise? I really don't see how torrenting would be a non-option for anyone. The movie is also incredibly easy to torrent in high quality.
>they're gay and nothing happens
is no different to
>le nothing happens meme
the fact that they're gay is purely incidental to your criticism
that's not why people appreciate it either
what you're complaining about is that it's a simple straight drama
many of the best films ever made fit into that definition; Ozu, Bergman, Koreeda.
As well as most of Guadignino's other films which do not have gay characters.
>HURRR LETS GO TO A PLANET THAT'S 75% WATER WITH WATER IN THE AIR WHEN WATER DISSOLVES OUR SKIN
So instead of addressing any of my points, you'll just list better movies? Kind of what you attacked me for doing earlier? First off, I don't know why you think I'm attacking them for being gay. That aspect is irrelevant. I'm attacking them for thinking that's enough to keep interest, as if being gay was this exotic, fascinating experience for straight people to gawk at. READ what I said; simple, effective dramas exist, but they've already been done. We don't need one more in the waste of time and film that is CMBYN.
added like 10 movies from this thread to my list, cheers broos
yms-tier criticism
Your point is that there's no plot, nothing really happens, and there's no extreme conflict
That is not a criticism. It's just a description of a simple drama. Many of the best films ever made are simple dramas.
Now you're welcome to not enjoy that kind of film, but you're wrong to say that it's played out, or inherently trash.
>you're wrong because better films have been done
Wow, so literally the same thing I did when I directed you to I Love Phillip Morris?
>5 films
>One isn't even from the 2010's
Try again
Real answer is all 3 are shit
No, it's a false equivalence.
I'm not suggesting that the existence of similar films which are universally acclaimed, makes Call me By Your Name good, or bad. But just that the qualities which those films all share, which you have given as a criticism, are clearly not inherently bad, and so are not an insightful or valid criticism.
Referencing other films or filmmakers when talking about a film is a good thing to do. Just not in a lazy dismissive way.
You have yet to give a single argument within the movie. Saying other films did those traits better is not a counter argument; it is, in fact, agreeing with me when I say it's played out. Romance for the sake of romance without anything added in is so basic and old, it should be prohibited. If CMBYM had explored any of the topics it puts forth it could have had texture, but it just ends bland. The age difference is not talked about. Homosexuality being taboo is not talked about. How the hell could you call something so empty "a masterpiece"?
Nothing really happening, no serious conflict and no plot is neither a good nor a bad thing. I have already logically proven this. You accept this and then we move on. You're welcome to personally not like such films, but it is not a reason to call a film trash. I have not been given an oppurtunity to make any other arguements about the film because you will not accept some a demonstrably clear and obvious point.
I do not bring it up to suggest that it makes the film good either. There are a lot of terrible simple dramas. And I would much rather watch a bad film where stuff happens than a bad simple drama. Because atleast that is entertaining. When a story goes for simplicity, just like when anything else goes for simplicity, it has a chance at hitting beauty and poignancy, but it also has nothing to support it if it misses that mark.
>basic and old, it should be prohibited.
your taste is your taste but it is not some objective marker of quality. You have a ridiculous bias and you are wrong.
You're the one who called the same movie they've done a million times, done again, a masterpiece. I'd reconsider your notions of "wrong" and "right."
I live in a small shithole town and my isp is retarded. Downloading large files isn't really an option.
the
>le nothing happens
meme
is just a meme for tasteless plebs
it's not a valid criticism
Everything has been done many times before. If anything, a simple drama is the most enduring and timeless kind of film.
What do you think are a few masterpieces from this decade?
Off topic but can you guys tell me, will using a VPN prevent your ISP from knowing that you torrent? Mine caught me and said if I did it again they'd ban me, and they're the only ISP option in my city.
>hey let's make a post apocalypse survival movie

>just a disease

>and then the disease kills them
>that's it
>that's the movie
>I call it "The Disease"
>what do you mean it won't attract an audience?
>geez fine ok just give it a dishonest title that implies there's a monster or something
>a simple drama is the most enduring and timeless kind of film
I agree. The first time they do it, perhaps. Not the 100th.
>What do you think are a few masterpieces from this decade?
I already named a better gay movie. I thought you didn't want me to do this? Make up your mind.
everything has been done 100+ times already
now we're talking about you and not the film
Not a better gay movie, but a few contemporary films you would consider masterpieces
>Still Walking
>Winter Sleep
>Certain Women
>Cold War
>Snowtown
There's a handful of mine. Nothing happens in the first 3.
agreed
The Witch is one of the best horror films of the 2010s, arguably the best. Hereditary and It Comes At Night are both good if somewhat overrated (the idea that either is equal to Rosemary's Baby or The Thing is absurd).
>everything has been done 100+ times already
What a disingenuous statement. There's endless original, unique films ever year. Even genre films. Your Name is so unremarkable, so indistinguishable, you have to put down every other film to make it acceptable.
>now we're talking about you and not the film
Discussion doesn't work like that. I'm still talking about the film. Of which you've said exactly 0 positive things for so far.
It was kino but I don't know about horror. More like sci-fi honestly
>I ONLY DISLIKE THESE MOVIES BECAUSE THEY'RE POPULAR: the thread
name me one specific reason the witch sucks that's more specific than "hurrdurr didnt scare me"
whats so good about the witch?
It was shot on film, with one lense, by a master cinematographer.
That is a highly original technique, never before done on a serious production.
The thai guy who shot it, also shot Uncle Boonmee, which won the Camera d'Or at Cannes.
I think Call me By Your Name looks absolutely beautiful, and the single lense used for the entire film, gives it a sense of ordinaryness, takes away the cinematic quality of it, and makes it more immersive, as we ourselves live with only one lense. It adds to the realism, and it gives them a creative constraint of simplicity within which to give a very honest depiction of their setting.
The setting, is also beautiful. It is like an Eden. I cannot think of a film with a more beautiful setting. The art design, the costume design, every facet of the production visually is beautiful.
It is entertaining to watch for that reason alone.
The preformances are very good. Arnie Hammer is the weakness, but the son and the father both are excellent.
Enough? Now answer my question.
Based patricians. I guess it's It's one of those rare multi genres.
>It is pretty!
I suppose Transformers is your favourite film.
That’s literally the worst one, go jump in a wood chipper
The sole purpose for a horror movie to exist is to scare you and if it fails to do that it is bad. YMS need not reply.
But other than that bad dialogue (embarrassingly trying to sound smart) and bad, unmemorable acting acting. Especially the boy in his awful death scene
I actually just gave an analysis of the cinematography beyond 'it's pretty', lad.
And your point that simple dramas are played out, is simply false. Many of the most critically acclaimed contemporary films are simple dramas. You're welcome to not enjoy such films, but calling them trash is just wrong. Almost everyone who really cares about film thinks differently.
Now answer my question, you asked for me to explain some good things about CMBYN, I did that, at length, so what are 5 films which you consider modern masterpieces?
Unironically
Infuriating bait and switch film.
Not even a "vat a tvist!" shamalamadingdong shit which at least has SOMETHING beyond the twist.
Glad I only streamed it and skipped through once I realized that it was going nowhere lmao
Sucks for the cucks that actually paid money to watch it.

this looks like slightly fewer than 10
if you were impressed by that mediocrity you must have a ton of amazing films left to see user
The VeeVeetch was one of the most overrated, trite, mundane garbage I ever got memed into watching. Thank fuck I pirate or else I'd unironically be making rant threads in this shithole.
Those three posters have a similar aesthetic but I don't know what it's called.
thanks for putting all the good films in one easily referencable image
the objective was kinda similiar if I remember.
its called "uninspired"
Anyone watch House of the Devil?
Made about 10 years ago, but looks like a late 70's, early 80s horror.

>Girl Walks Home Alone at Night
>The Conjuring
>The Skin I Live In
The Wailing is an incredibly well filmed clusterfuck and the conjuring is shit. Otherwise good list
I liked them all. What am I supposed to like instead?
Suspiria is garbage and Neon Demon is no horror.
right, is top 10 of all time. Middle sucks, left is good
Conjuring was trash.
worst taste in the thread
House of the Devil is pretty great and Ti West's short in V/h/s was the only one worth watching. I wish Inkeepers had turned out better.
Was there even 10 horror movies released in the 2010's?
have sex
Conjuring oozed this comfortable milieu, sure the formulaic build up of horror was there, but the atmosphere was where it excelled. Conjuring 2 was bad though.
Aside from the wailling your list is trash.
have there even been 10 good horror films in the 2010's?
The ritual became totally shit in the second half. Filmmakers need to understand that people aren't scared of cgi monsters and that its the mystery that keeps them afraid.
There is the witch, a dark song and the wailling. I don't know more.
I disagree. It was too busy shuffling through the deck of supernatural macguffins to establish anything resembling a consistent tone or atmosphere. Haunted house? Shit that isn't threatening enough ok full on ghosts and we're doing found footage bit wait wait shit this isn't working ok we're doing demons with a full on possession now but we still want a- FUCK just give it a rest already. Pick a thing. Like one thing. Be good at it.
Like some of the stuff in the basement towards the end is interesting when they get really pulpy with it but that's really it. And it felt like a really low stakes affair. You knew those kids weren't gonna fuckin get hurt. Not in any way that mattered.
The wailing is also trash.
What about this trash movie everyone on Yea Forums thinks is the shit?
No its not.
It was ok but not mindblowing.
I cannot imagine someone over the age of 10 valuing horror movies based on OMG SO SCARED they make them feel.
It is literally Impossible to truly be scared by a film so no intelligent person should make that the most important factor when discussing horror.
VVitch was fine. It Comes At Night was a fuck though, would have been okay except they added a bunch of LOST-style psuedo-crytpic teaser cliffhanger blueball bullshit, like "le red door!!!" that doesn't add anything to the movie.
Honeymoon, Raw, Goodnight Mommy, Evil Dead 2013, and Train to Busan are all worth seeing. Black Swan if you count that. Us looks cool and I had a buddy see an advance screening who said it was dope
2020's will be the era of the retro slasher
would've been good if the director had an ounce of restraint
Horror movies aren't scary and if you think otherwise you're a fucking pussy. Change my mind
how can you not like vvitch as a period piece if nothing else
who's hyped for MIDSOMMAR
The aesthetic and idea is good but the execution and acting is dogshit.
How to identify a faggot
Be OP
A nightmare on elm street is the greatest horror film ever made. The gold standard in pure kino. Not even up for debate. Jaws isn’t horror.
youre a real killer bro
save some pussy for the rest of us
>ari aster
>And it felt like a really low stakes affair.
Yeah, that's what made it oddly enough, comfortable to me. A family being haunted in a very traditional sense, almost like The Others. Though not having any lingering shots with no connection to the action preceded nor upcoming, I felt they managed to cover the film with this "sleepyville" blanket through the scares. Children playing hide and seek, laundry under the overcast sky, everyone sort of exploring this new old house, just reminiscent of how I would act when coming to a new house and everything is odd and ominous, seeing these weird shapes in the dark the first few months because of not being familiar with it.
I wouldn’t go so far as saying that, I don’t think there isn’t a definite best but I think there are a lot that fit in the highest tier
Nightmare included. Also
>the excorcist
>Halloween
>The Thing
All deserve to be in there too
post horror kino
BASED
I'm actually dead serious - I haven't found horror movies scary since I was like 14. Horror movies really just don't phase me anymore , I'm sure it's not like that for most people but then I think most people find shit like body horror or cosmicism profoundly disturbing. Movies can't really capture the depth of a lot of the broader horror genre I think, especially within literature
>The Face of Another
>House
>Jigoku
>Kuroneko
>Demons
>The Living Skeleton
>Tetsuo the Iron Man
>Kwaidan
>Onibaba
>Angel Egg
Angel's Egg aint a fucking horror movie and it came out in 1985
I wasn't posting films from the 10's, to be frank with you
How is it even possible to have such bad taste? I'm surprised that it follows and Babook aren't on there as well.

The Endless does it right too.
This is the only horror movie I liked.
I don't know why people like horror movies. They are either simply gross like SAW or silly with cheesy zombies like Evil Dead or jump scares like The Ring.
>omg this house is haunted so spooky
>this person you have been talking with has been dead for 100 years!
>omg look a monster with long black hair black eyes and a big mouth how spooky
>oh look its my friend oh no why is he making sudden movements and talking gibberish so spooky
>omg this door opened by itself
>omg look at this person just standing there in the dark looking at us so spooky
Can't wait to see what completely average horror flick is going to be called the best horror in decades this year.
>It Comes at Night is an overrated piece of shit
I would categorize it more as a thriller than as a horror movie.
Evil dead 2003 was a piece of shit. So goddamn boring and even the gore was disappointing outside of the tongue bit.
I honestly cannot think of anything 2010- onward that hit me as hard as Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Kairo. Pejoratively superficial horror with no lasting meaning.
>people still believe this rumor 38 years later
>It Comes At Night
I watched this and thought it was okay, but I can't remember a single thing about it. One of the most forgettable movies in recent years.
dreadfully slow and boring AF but the last scenes are pure cinematic kino
It's not even a horror movie
I didn't say american movies are. do you know that Hollywood don't include A24 coz they're indie.
agreed. Rosemary's Baby is overrated as shit I don't just get it's so popular.
A Dark Song

One of the rare scenes that actually freaked me out.

Why did they ruin my favorite hills have eyes ripoff with shitty fucking sequels?
>The Alchemist's cookbook
I like your existence.
The top 5 horror movies of all time are better than top 5 of any other genre.
Agreed the movie sucked. Some scenes really did freak me out though. Especially the Raven scene.
TIL: The Descent has a sequel
