Elysium has a pretty shit plot but great production design, especially for a more "probable" cyberpunk world that isn't just Neon Rainy Hong Kong.
Upgrade is pretty good, the plot is whatever but it has some good cybernetics, lighting, and fight scenes.

A scavenger finds a murderbot in the nuclear wasteland desert, sells it to a scrapper in a cyberpunk town, it somehow comes back to life and gets into a girls apartment, it starts murdering her neighbors, turns out it's actually a prototype for a model that's going to be mass produced.
It's not particularly "good" but it tries to be satirical (the girl spraypaints an American flag on the robot's head) and has that mid-90s charm

the first half is okay but it falls apart after that, too many new characters and plot changes in an attempt to be "empowering". Read the book instead.

This user is correct. Every element that deviates from the book is of considerably worse quality. The audio books for the first two Takeshi books are good as well if you don't want to read it.
