Also the production value looks like trash. I think it would be more possible than people realize to shoot DOOM with a sub AAA budget, but it would take a truly skilled director. Whichever production team this is doesn’t seem skilled even with the restraints of their budget.

This. THIS is why vidya adaptations rarely work. People most of the time would rather actually play the fucking game for 20+ hours than watch a movie. The only way I could see a video game movie work would be as some kind of lore expansion, but you can never capture the experience of playing a game in a movie.
