That´s how adaptations work matte. RDJ/ Ritchie´s movies may be fun, nobody is denying that, but he is not Sherlock Holmes because that´s not how the character behaves. Cumberbatch is far closer to the source despise the setting being contemporary. Heck, Ritchie´s even more steam punk than actual Victorian... saying his rendition is the best is the equivalent to saying the 2011 rendition of the Three Musketeers is the best rendition of Dumas´s work.

It wasn’t telepathy, Holmes simply came to the realization moriarty was on par with him in his analyzing abilities and worked that into his own visualizations. He realized moriarty would equally be able to anticipate the scenario just as he does and because of that he worked it in.

holmes didn't want to risk both of them dying when he was already in position to kill moriarty. Besides, sherlock didn't have any intentions to kill himself, because later in the movie, it turns out that he survived.

Harris isn't a bad actor, but the way this character portrayed in this didn't feel very "moriarty". Then again, downey and law didn't feel like holmes and watson either.
I don't remember what I was expecting when I went to watch it, but this wasn't it.
I think bill nighy could've pulled off a more convincing moriarty. Watch Underworld. He even looks like the sidney pagent sketch, Then again, there's still the script and direction to worry about.
