no, it wouldn't change anything. It definitely wouldn't be better. If anything it would be dumb to have more superfluous elements. Plus there are important scenes where he messes with the protagonists instead of just killing them and those need to be believable. If you make his character "worships death" then you need to come up with some other reason why he just doesn't murder every protagonist that crosses his path.
