Pane was made up for the show, because in the comics there aren't any people that are close to Bane he can interact with.
In the comics King Snake is Bane's father and he is named Edmund Dorrance. So they based Bane's Gotham name on Edmund, by naming him Eduardo. So now Bane has a canon name.

It gets good with season two, season one is bogged down by the shitty killer of the week formula, but the overarching story with the gangsters is great. The writers have a habit of literally forgetting mysteries / sub-plots that they set up, but they absolutely nail a lot of stories. It has a campy noir vibe like no other show with genuinely clever stories, when the writers aren't being forgettable at least.

The series has the campy, zainy vibe of Adam West and makes the violence of the Nolan movies look tame. As someone once described on this board, it's like they slipped something into the drinks when the censors had to watch it. The show is edgy as fuck, Ra's Al Ghul slicing little kid's throats, Alfred beating the shit out of children every couple of episodes, a newly wed couple getting splattered by a wrecking ball, protoJoker getting his face cut off by a fanboy, then he has to steal it back new52 style and the corners of his face keep flapping loose throughout the episode so he keeps replenishing the staples, I lost count how many times someone has had their hand sliced off, Penguin killing, cooking and feeding his stepmother's children to her, etc. The show has a lot of edgy violence but it plays it more for fun.
Saying it looks like a "fan film" shows you have shit taste though. The show has top notch production value. It actually looks and feels like a comic book show with the overly theatrical sets, exaggerated lighting and constant Dutch camera angles. Season five has been a let down in that regard, but I think there's been some budget cut backs for season five.
Season one is lame because it has a killer of the week formula, skip to season two. You miss out on great progression with Nygma but it's probably not worth suffering through the killer of the week episodes. Also if you're overly attached to your comics books like a manchildren you'll throw a lot of temper tantrums when Gotham strays from the canon. It takes inspiration from a lot of stories and characters but it does it's own spin on them. Sometimes it follows the comics, sometimes it throws a curve ball.

Pyg is truly the best villain this show has had. Another highlight of Gotham is taking Z list villains absolutely no one gives a flying fuck about like Zsasz, Pyg and Mad Hatter then assigning them actors so well cast and talented the villains turn into A listers.
