Both series are good to me, for different reasons.
Brotherhood is longer, the villain bigger and the stakes larger. 2003's series was good too for being shorter and more focused, with a smaller-scale villain who's really just a lady trying to stave off death for a few centuries. I really like the music in both, too.

Show got wrecked really hard by being the third take on the story and assuming everyone who sees it had seen at least one of the earlier iterations. Really sucks. Could've been an amazing anime if it adapted the whole thing properly (and they didn't do the fucking retarded overemphasis on inappropriate humor that can take up minutes of an episode when in the manga it'll be like a short little moment in one frame or something).

...Fullmetal Alchemist? Adult Swim aired the first series in '03, then the second series Brotherhood ran some years later. The only difference is that the '03 series had the second half filled in for an ending, since the manga was still going. Brotherhood is basically the manga.

The events that led to Ed winding up our parallel world is just a much more creative and satisfying ending, but he should've at least knocked up Winry while he was back to continue his lineage in their world desu, and there were maximum feels when Al stowaway'd inside his armor to make up for all the time they lost while his body was gone, since he couldn't remember everything. Bradley's overall character arc and assault on Central City was definitely a highlight in Brotherhood, though.

Nah, the biggest problem with anime sci-fi compared to western sci-fi is the writing. Awkward cringe inducing dialogue, forced unnecessarily drawn out drama. Most of the time weebs point out to good writing in anime it's just some edgy trash full of twists for sheer shock value.

Like anime can be a lot more creative in initial concepts, but they're fucking shit at execution. Look at all their shows and manga that either go on for hundreds of episodes/chapters because the author can't figure out a good thematically sound ending, while the ones that do finally end usually fuck it up in someway.

Brotherhood used the cast really really well. It's not just a generic series where the MC is necessary to stop everything. Every character gets their moment and plays an important role in the series.

About Hohenheim I disliked the scale of both him and father, I didn't dislike him as a character but if you remove him from the story everything plays out exactly the same, he had no weight in it.

In my opinion, the whole energy bending was a cop out so that Aang could resolve the plot without facing any serious moral dilemmas ALSO A FUCKING ROCK and Azula suddenly going completely batshit, when she always seemed in control. i dont think there was a plot. it was just heavy with character development, which as a highschool themed anime was kind of integral. I havent watched it in forever, but its so iconic that ive considered watching it again. It really was a staple of my anime experience. And what do you mean little girls with tanks? Was it moe?
If you wanna watch a really amazing anime, i strongly suggest gunslinger girl. it might sound corny, but its definitely got plot and its pretty intense. in a sad kind of way.

Girls Und Panzer I think. Gunslinger Girl has been on my to-watch list for a long time, you're certainly not the first user to recommend it.
Black Lagoon is another one that'd been on my list for a while, and I finally got around to it a few months back.

The biggest issue with 03 is that it jumps the shark because the source material was not even closed to being finished back then. So 03 is basically a completely different show from the manga. It leaves out a shit ton of characters and motivations that not only expand on the world of FMA but makes characters much more likable. Roy Mustang/Scar come to mind here.

However, 03 has more emotional depth by a metric fuck ton. I would say 03 is like Raimis Spider 2 while BH is like Homecoming.

I think I was 8 when shonen jump came to america and I first saw the scene where they resurrect their mother. Scared the shit out of me. Really makes you wonder how many kids ignore the 18+ warning on Yea Forums like I did with that show.

I have a feeling that the completely failure of the day of the black sun invasion tip the scale too far against the protagonist. At that point, with only so few episode left for the show finale and the comet shit coming, the only way the protagonist can win is some improbable asspulls, which happened. I think the show went a bit too far in putting the protagonist in that underdog position with only so few time left. The build up for aang and his crew’s victory wasn’t there when everything they worked for in almost 3 seasons were all for naught and they started almost from scratches a few days before the comet arrive. The writers did wrote themselves into a corner a bit there
