Judging by how not that great the manga is its highly probable that the movies will diverge from the manga. The only persons that want the movies true to the manga are a handful of its manchildren fans. A majority of the movie goers don't want to watch a movie full of dark ugly themes, grotesque scenes and ultra violence. The Alita movies will end up picking a few manga details for the backbone of the story line and improvise more then likely. I had no idea about the level of excitement here going in, but it was a very fun movie, with great world building and very cool sci-fi design (the world felt "lived in" the way the original Star Wars movies did), some real cool ideas, with likeable main characters, fun villains, and it wasn't scared to show a super-powerful robot just fuck shit up, when the core of the character is that she's a super-powerful robot, and they could've easily went the PG13 Venom faux-ultra violence route.

I really liked it.

The movie could certainly stand to gain about 20 minutes more in the ending, yes. But Hugo did exactly what he said he was going to do. What should have been done, perhaps, is to show more of why Hugo wanted to go up - more than it's nicer up there. Also I like body horror, so his reaction to a cyborg body would be nice to see.

I'm hoping for an extended version.

If we ignore the /masonic/lord user, and look at the actual similarities with biblical stories and apocrypha, we can clearly see the inspiration here - yes.

That doesn't mean that it's a biblical allegory like parts of the Narnia books, but it's one of the reasons why this movie speaks to people. It uses archetypes that many people haven't even seen used before. Sure, the Christ motif and the Hero's journey is familiar, but much of the inspiration is more obscure than what most people know about.
