I'm glad I saw her in IMAX3D twice but now that IMAX3D screen showings have dried up in my area if I wanted to see Alita again I'd have to settle for 2D on a tiny broom closet screen I'm starting to regret only going twice. So for me it's kinda already out of theaters and in a month or two when it's completely out of theaters I'm probably going to feel it even more.

I wouldn't have a problem at all if that payoff wasn't such a big thing.

Because it is sincere and to the point. It is not too cringy, funny or stupid to be quotable.
Dialogue lines get quoted either if they are ridiculously bad/silly, or if they are just some fun random bullshit tangential to the movie plot (pulp fiction is the best example).

We got a shoe in montage as the only thing that showed her earning that whatsoever. the people that are called mary sues did more than technically lose and they still called that. in the end there was zero tension whether or not she would win. it would be no different if she just found the ticket to sky city in a drain. they should've nixed the motorball thing and put that screen time into world building. The URM stuff was my favorite part. I wish the entire movie was about that.

This. The dialogue was direct and heartfelt. You have to be a heartless android not to feel for her struggle. I'm stoic af but some parts of this movie made my throat ache when I first watched it because it reminded me of heartbreaking moments in my own life and the naive things I used to say and do and how dumb I used to be. I could connect with that.

She represents a refreshingly human spirit, crystallized into a character; this is something you can recognize as something that inspires you, something that you identify with and which attracts you emotionally, and perhaps even stands in judgment of you. But this existed before Alita. Whether you want to label it as the "anima" or your "muse", be aware that this is not unique or inherent in Alita - who remains a fictional character. It is part of the human spirit if you will.
Try to find that aspect of integrity in yourself, and culture it in other people who you meet in life.

Probably not. Avatar was a fad because it was entirely carried by its visuals; which other films caught up to. Alita will end up being more like Dstrict 9 where it only gets more popular over time.

It's been a while since I've seen Avatar, I last saw it back in 2009 in theaters and I don't remember much. But rewatching some of the clips on youtube, the guy who played Jake(?) is either intentionally or unknowingly doing a Mel Gibson impression. Big time. So I think he plays it well.
The other actress plays the cursing, cynical, "edgy humor" military type that you see in a lot of military movies, which is kind of annoying. Like the same dialogue you get in the DOOM movie.

It's true though. Sully is fine and so are Neytiri, Augustine and Quaritch but they aren't very memorable. They work for the movie, not to carry a franchise or fandom.

I am sure that Quaritch was REALLY memorable. I remember people actually rooting for RDA because of that reason. Too bad they killed him off.
