What are Yea Forums's feelings on this? Also is the poster an homage?

ik lots of Yea Forums wasn't big on Get Out and neither was I but this is probably this year's Hereditary for me (as in the only horror movie I want to see at all).
Also, it's probably not the case but is pic related, with the glove and (scissor) blades and the phrase "new nightmare" a deliberate Wes Craven/Nightmare on Elm Street reference/homage?

Heredity director's releasing a new film this year called Midsommar. He's trying "nordic horror" this time. Theres only a gif of dancing lolis on his twitter account, right now though. Got some ribbons and maypole action in it.

Im not sure how I feel about this one either, but I enjoyed Get Out, so it prolly wont be too terrible.
I wish hollywood could get away from putting all the GOOD scares in their horror trailers, though.
Fuck that. Leave some surprises in for me to see.

You know, I hadnt given much thought to the red color motif and the glove. But now that you mention it- it DOES have a Krueger vibe to it.
Interesting.

Between Us, Midsommar and the Pet Semetary remake, it might be a ok year for horror.

>35
I'm not expecting much out of Midsommar, I loved Hereditary because of the subtlety and the twist in the end. Midsommar looks straight CULT HORROR and I don;'t know how Aster is going to keep the momentum like Hereditary

Oh shit, just checked.
The trailers out for Midsommar. Dunno how I missed that.
Sweet.

Horror is entry-level filmmaking. It doesn't take much imagination to make something scary. Probably why plebs like horror movies so much

Doesn't mean you can't make quality fucking horror movies.

Just got back from the trailer. You know, since Heredity used shadows and misdirection to keep its characters and the viewers in the dark about what was going on, I figure the 180 in Midsommar's visual direction is going to be similar.
Its bright, its open and airy- and that is the twist. There's something else here the audience is not meant to see.
Instead of just the supernatural, I think it may be something else. Maybe aliens. That would be cool.

Have you finished your screenplay, user?

And getting back to Us- what do you expect to see? Get Out was obviously about the enemy without, and since Us has dopplegangers shown clearly within the trailer- how do you think this theme is going to play into the story?

Split personalities is too obvious. So are clones.
I'm scratching my head on that one.

it could play into the dream of black america, america in general, white america, or the american dream. all those idioms have their own stance in our modern politics and discourse.
i just hope it gets blacks to actually stop, look, and reflect on their people. and make an earnest steps towards taking responsibility for their actions. not everything is black people's fault but they do, do things which make their culture and society worse.

I'm not sure and I really don't want to think to much about it. I wasn't really a fan of Get Out, but Us looks pretty promising. For what I've seen is that
1)There's a fuckton of places in this movie. Ex:Beach, house, harbor, the animal shelter, the school. So i dont know what the fuck is going to happen, also the dad looks like he doesnt stick for too long

2)The kid befriends his clone so, he may insinuate that the dopplegangers are good or some shit idk

I'm looking forward to it, as well as Midsommar and fucking Brightburn

Come to think of it, dont their white friends die in the trailer?
Instead of the usual "black guy dies first" trope, its the reverse this time.
I can already picture how much racebaiting bullshit is gonna get stirred on this board for that alone.
I hope they meet another doppelganger family to up the stakes.
Maybe another group of neighbors. That'd be funny.

You read the script yet?

from Midsommar?
I heard it was online but I don't wanna spoil myself

>The kid befriends his clone
Good eye! I'd forgotten about that scene. So maybe their doubles do have the capacity for reason.
Somehow, that makes them slightly spookier..Might be a trap.

Oh man, Brightburn. After all the Man of Murder memes we had when MOS was released, you'd think there'd be more of a focus on that film.
But its so quiet around here during the Marvel shitstorm. I think everyone forgot about Superman.
I wanna see what they do with that one.

Nope. Any good?
If its the first treatment, I wouldnt trust it. They love to re-write stuff and not everything makes it to the final cut.

Shit. I couldn't find it so I wanted you to spoil it

here it is
I don't know if its a fake or not but I reallyyy don't want to know anything about it.

I think it's legit since there's a character called christian

I read the screenplay of Hereditary and there were some things that were changed. The important ones were Toni Collete's psychiatric, he's an actual character. And the cult members used red cloaks instead of being naked. Good thing the chose the latter

Us looked utterly uninteresting from the first trailer, and I liked Get Out a lot
Can't trust reviews anymore so the 100% RT score is meaningless
I'll probably see it anyway and make up my own mind

See, I was wondering what was up with the protagonists husband the whole time. So when people started referring to him as both her husband and her therapist I was wondering where they got that info from.
Now it makes sense. It got cut.
We see him working in the film, but its not explicitly told what his role is in the family. It would have been nice to hear more from that character before they torch him in the third act. It would have grounded the whole sequence of events more firmly.
And yeah, kek. The naked cult members is much more frightening. Red cloaks make me think of The Village.
Its a little too on the nose.

I thought 100% was the default score until real reviews started the meter going.
In any case, who really listens to critics from the get go?
Gotta use your gut.

Nah mate, this is what we're looking at as of tonight. Shills gotta shill
Hopefully the movie is actually good though
And yeah there's no trusting the critics anyway after TLJ

>Between Us, Midsommar and the Pet Semetary remake, it might be a ok year for horror.
don't forget IT chapter 2

Now that I'm looking forward to

Oh, spin doctors existed before TLJ. Theyre in all forms of media, really. Been that way for a while now.
But I know what ya mean. I want this one to be good, too.

>don't forget IT chapter 2

IT started so strong and dissolved on a weak note. Beautiful visuals, though. And you could tell someone had actually read the book.

I really hope the second half is greater than the sum of its parts. Theres no way theyre gonna add that sex scene, I just know it.
