Solid character-driven ensemble space story if you can put up with some really awkward expository dialog, lots of humor, a 70s pop soundtrack, and a generic marvel villain of the week.
The movie is essentially about how the Guardians of the Galaxy meet and become friends and to that end it's pretty decent.

GotG movies are the best part of the MCU, because you can easily ignore their connection to the MCU, and enjoy them as a standalone thing.
The fact that these movies clearly had a well-defined director's vision behind them also helps.
Perfect for someone who couldn't care less about cinematic universes and the superhero crap that Marvel shits out every year, but wants to see a fun space opera.
Shame that they've ruined this by including GotG in the last Avengers movie. But it doesn't really matter now, since GotG3 doesn't have a director, and is pretty much cancelled anyway.

The best film in the MCU. It's all downhill from there.

First MCU movie I watched and it and it's sequel along with Iron man 1 and 3 are still the only ones in the MCU that I'd call anything above average

Guardians of the Galaxy is to marvel like that long stretch where you haven't kissed a girl, or gotten a girlfriend, and so you stop caring about it for a week. Then all the girls start noticing you and giving good vibes. It's quick, and everything seems like it'll be alright but then it's over.
