Not OP here, I've actually met a Cusack several times and he always just seemed like a sad sack of shit. When I knew him he was in love with one of my friend's fiance, she's a doctor based in LA who mostly has stars as her patients. He hung out with her and would take her on what he thought were dates, she's a smart girl but an idiot in social situations and thought they were just friends.
We were all invited to a dinner where she announced her engagement with her actual boyfriend whom Cusack didn't know existed. He left shortly after that. He came to the wedding and was sitting in a corner drinking out of a bottle while everyone else was having fun. I talked to him for a few minutes, he seemed cool enough but totally bummed.
