Spiderverse

I really liked this movie, but...

>Literally murdered her version of Peter by accident and consumed by guilt over his unreciprocated feelings and death
>no visible reaction to meeting a living heroic Peter

Big omission. Either that or she's just kind of a cunt and MJ really was best girl. I hope this lack of development for someone that was allegedly the third main character is fixed in the sequel or spinoff or whatever. Also Spiderverse thread

>nu-spiderman is black mutt
>his suit is a black, lesser version of Peter's
>love interest of niggerman is an aryan teenage girl
>her suit is colored white on black
What did hollywood mean by this

>the old perfect Spiderman that everyone loves in Miles' universe is a blue-eyed white man
>the law obsessed honorable father of the black character is named "Jefferson Davis". He wants his son to be a good boi and obey the white man's laws
>the washed up fat Peter Parker is a brown haired, brown eyed jew

Raimi did it again.

The Peter she meets is mid-late 30's at youngest and already impossibly in love with his MJ. That's pretty far off from the Peter she knew. And during their first meeting she was a little busy with fem-ock for an emotional moment. I thought the movie did a good job with both Gwen and Peter. I think the movie's real issue is that Miles' character arc is shallow and contrived.

Gwen just plays straight man the whole movie. The closest thing she has to a character arc is comprised of two sentences, one introducing the concept that she doesn't want to get close to anyone anymore, and another saying "oh I'm over it". Neither of them actually show, they only tell.

Miles is fine but they pretty much did all you can do with his concept. It doesn't go further than this. Should have cut him down a little bit more and given some of that time to Gwen so she could have some kind of arc.

Why did they make her so sexy?

Kid's movie animators are porn artists.

she's a dancer. She has a dancer's body. But yeah I was shocked she was supposed to be 14 here. I thought Miles was 16 and she was 17.

Attached: thicc Spider Gwen.png (1920x796, 2.39M)

In the movie Gwen is 2 years older than Miles.

15 months, she says.

>2 years older than Miles
>in the same science class as him
kek, blondes trying to get into STEM

Does the movie show off more of her assets?

problematic post
no

I think she has more than one model or something because in some shots she's incredibly thicc in the lower body and in others she's slender. She's very bottom heavy though. All her assets are in her legs.

She presumably had to spoof her age. I don't remember the movie explaining how exactly she got herself into this elite school without any papers.

Remember the scene where "616" spidey goes to talk to MJ at the Fisk dinner (why was she even there?)? Doesn't Gwen say something about how Peter shouldn't try to talk to MJ even if he has the chance to because he shouldn't be distracted? A very bad paraphrase, but that could be the reason she uses for herself when she doesn't talk to Peter.
Something common with Spidey is his issues with confiding in people about his secret identity that may harm them, Gwen might think something similar about Peter, even though this one is already Spider-Man.

Now what I'm actually confused at is why Peter doesn't care about Spider-Gwen at all; he's supposed to be the OG "real" spider-man and HE killed his version of Gwen too. It doesn't seem like Spider-Gwen's existence even phases him at all.

I liked those moments where he was listening to nigger music, very enriching.

>I think the movie's real issue is that Miles' character arc is shallow and contrived.
I felt they did the best of what they could with what they had. His was an origin arc, a coming of age arc, the emotional beats hit where they should have and he didn't struggle into the point of "come on already damn!" territory, and when he finally came into his own those scenes were utterly well animated, the sense of freedom and wonder was fully recognized.

Maybe in the sequel, between focusing on Miles and Gwen's budding romantic interest, they can go further with him.

>tfw I was considerably more in invested in Peni, Noir, and Ham then the main three.

>All Gwens always shit, more at 11!

>hollywood
((((Marvel Comics)))) came up with the idea in the first place

cbr.com/marvel-teases-a-surprising-romance-between-spider-gwen-miles-morales/

I feel the exact opposite. The main three kept me hooked, but Noir's fight with the gun-dude at the end was pretty damn awesome.

>She's very bottom heavy though
Ah fuck, I didn't need a boner right now user but thanks

I wonder why that is

>finally came into his own
Explain.

>Maybe in the sequel they can go further with him
In a romance subplot? I doubt it. Besides, what's this talk about "further" when he never went anywhere in the first place?

>Remember the scene where "616" spidey goes to talk to MJ at the Fisk dinner (why was she even there?)
Well it was specifically to honor Spiderman and she had been outed as his wife. She may not have known about Fisk, though I'd have thought she'd be a bit sadder seeing how recently her husband died.

>oesn't Gwen say something about how Peter shouldn't try to talk to MJ even if he has the chance to because he shouldn't be distracted? A very bad paraphrase, but that could be the reason she uses for herself when she doesn't talk to Peter.
She says

>No! Peter! I've been there. Trust me, you've gotta move on buddy.
It's the closest the film comes to addressing that issue. And in fact, the only thing it does in that regard. Disappointing.

>Now what I'm actually confused at is why Peter doesn't care about Spider-Gwen at all; he's supposed to be the OG "real" spider-man and HE killed his version of Gwen too. It doesn't seem like Spider-Gwen's existence even phases him at all.

The theory I've seen on that is that Peter B. is actually a Spiderman adjacent to Raimi's so Gwen Stacy doesn't really mean anything to him. All he did was take her on a revenge date once. It's also why he so readily takes up the White Man's Burden in regards to Miles.

I wanted more of literally everyone but Miles. Not because I disliked Miles. he just seems like the only one that got just enough content.

t. MJ

I don't think Miles' arc is shallow or contrived, it's your pretty basic superhero coming of age story. I liked it, though I did prefer Peter's.

I think it's because I relate to being a 30 something loser looking at the past with regret and the future with anxiety and you just want to shut out the world as you stay in your little room.
Seriously though, Peter had surprisingly poignant scenes. I love the little moment when they descend dead Pete's lair and he finds the picture of MJ and just looks at it. Or when he confronts her at the party. Or of course the finale when he's scared to go back because he's afraid he might fuck things up again. Really good stuff.

She just walked in

>Explain
He started off as have not being Spider-Man, and by the end, he was Spider-Man. He went from normal fuck-up to spider bitten fuck-up. I consider that coming into his own, albeit sloppily.

>Besides, what's this talk about "further"
As evidenced by a scene near the end where he slipped off the wall, there's still a lot he has to learn. He obviously has potential to grow, develop his abilities and such.

>Now what I'm actually confused at is why Peter doesn't care about Spider-Gwen at all

He’s supposed to be Raimi trilogy spider man

There clearly wasn't a lack of time dedicated to Miles' arc. There's a solid setup with the "great expectations" theme, but in the end it comes down to Peter telling him to believe in himself and take a leap of faith. The rest of the story helps and makes it good, but the arc itself is pretty shallow, and his sudden meteoric jump in competence at the end of the movie feels kinda cheap.

Peter B. Parker stole the show. I wonder how his Marvel writers feel knowing that he's more popular in this movie than Miles?

So what about the sequel?
Old Peter was the best part of the movie, so I hope he returns, but that's already 4 characters(Gwen, Miles, Peter and Miguel).
Will they include more alternate Spider Men? Will they give them a tiny amount of screentime again? Will the ones from the first movie return?

I don't think it's cheap. His OP-ness gets introduced pretty early with his shocker and invisibility stuff, in the end he just learned to master it.

white privilege

Why would they care? Peter has always been the most popular spider man.

sequel(s)

This did well enough Sony wants to make it a shared universe. Gwen's already getting her own movie. They'll spread the other secondary Spiders between them.

>There's a solid setup with the "great expectations" theme
True.

>but in the end it comes down to Peter telling him to believe in himself and take a leap of faith
I mean, yeah? Was there some other way that was going to plan out, that you expected it to play out? A kid with no control over his powers being given a confidence boosting line from his mentor seems pretty standard, and this one had the added benefit of being done decently at least.

>but the arc itself is pretty shallow
It didn't feel that way to me so I'll agree to disagree. I got the vibe that the first movie was about setting up the pieces that would make him into a true Spider-man so if there was any shallowness I would attribute that to a supreme sensation of familiarity, same-old same-old.

>his sudden meteoric jump in competence at the end of the movie feels kinda cheap.
It was all stuff he could do or was introduced way ahead of time, he just had to get that confidence line from his mentor to get it to fall into place. And he still fucked up in the end (sliding off the wall). The only part I found cheap was that big venom blast, but that's mostly because I don't know how he stores it in any way.

youtube.com/watch?v=ZhlZ-cPO0Xw
real talk, it's been a while since an action sequence had me at the edge of my seat like these prowler chase sequences, really felt like miles was about to fucking die, as silly as it sounds (with him being the main character and all)

Prowler doesn't get enough praise here. Everything from his design to the way he moves to his theme music made him the most threatening villain in any Marvel based film in the last decade. Sony did this with an absolute C-lister like Prowler, but somehow can't make Venom work. Weird.

I dunno why but I honestly expected Prowler to still try to kill Miles even after seeing he was his nephew. I mean, him pulling down the mask was absolutely based but still.

>Raimi trilogy spider-man
Then why did the 1610 Spider-Man have the raimi scenes, or were they both but the blond one was slightly cooler? One day 616 Spidey will have his big break.

>She may not have known about Fisk
This was me just putting the Ultimate comics logic into play when I probably shouldn't. Ultimate Peter told MJ about everything, she would definitely know that Kingpin is one of the worst guys out there.

Blonde Spidey was Raimi. Hobo Spider was kind of like Raimi, but not quite. His flashback has minor differences (like in his kiss with MJ, she's the one upside-down.

It was when he pulled down his mask that I was sure Prowler was going to try to kill him anyway. I thought he was doing it so he wouldn't have to see his nephew's face pleading with him while he killed him.

>Then why did the 1610 Spider-Man have the raimi scenes, or were they both but the blond one was slightly cooler?
They're both Raimi-Adjacent Spidermen instead of 616-Adjacent Spidermen.

>(like in his kiss with MJ, she's the one upside-down.
Fuck I didn't notice this. I have to watch it again.

Ooooooh, I didn't think about that. Damn, can you imagine? That would have been a helluva scene if he had tried and wounded Miles.

Who said Old Peter didn’t do the same things?

Into the Venomverse when?

You can say that all you want but an autistic technicality is a pretty poor excuse for avoiding drama that flows naturally from the script, complicates the story, and adds stakes for people who aren't Miles or Peter B.Not to mention the expectations fans would have due to the history of said characters.

It certainly shouldn't be a big teary thing that takes lots of screen time or overshadows Miles' arc, but not to do anything with it at all is just a missed opportunity.

Ok retard

There no need for purposeless melodrama in the script. We already got a moment like that with May and Peter at the house.
