One of the most pointless movies I've ever seen.
What if Drive was edgier, worse and very clearly made by a woman?

Soundtrack was the best part.
Explain what was pointless about it, because I suspect you didn't get the point, which is why it seems pointless to you
I wish it was like Drive. It’s more like some nouveau hipster garbage like The Lobster
Pointless as in this movie has absolutely no reason to exist. It's bland, cliche and unnecessary.Tell me one thing interesting about this film.
Even the best scene is taken from another movie.
Only reason it got made was to cash in on pizzagate hype at the time, but it was a classic case of bait and switch. They sold us Drive with Pizzagate, but we got Juno with Chris Chan
>very clearly made by a woman
>IF I TRY REALLY HARD THEN I'LL HATE THIS FILM MORE THAN ANYONE REEEEE
The absolute state of you.

i read the book. the book is better, more objetive, the end is crystal clear and brutal.
the movie literally is "directed by a woman", wich means unnecessary artsy fartsy bullshit - that whole holding hand with the guy who FUCKING KILL YOUR MOTHER doesnt exist in the book.
the director, btw, is the woman who would direct jane got his gun, produced by natalie portman, and didnt appear at the first day of shooting.
> she had to hired a man. LOL
Hurt Locker and American Psycho are also directed by wahmen
to compare book by book, DRIVE, from nicolas winding refn, is also based on a book and it is borderline 100% in consonance with the source material.
there is one or other scene that arent in the movie, but the book is there, no need to change anything. its a matter of respect, really,
why BUY THE RIGHTS of something and twist almost beyond recognition?
back to your discord room trannies
To give her her share, IMDB says that holding hand with the guy and singing scene was Joaquin's idea.We Need To Talk About Kevin was better than this but she seems like a one trick pony.

I seriously doubt you've ever read a book in your life.

REEEEEEEEE PEOPLE LIKE SOMETHING THAT I DON'T LIKE THEY MUST BE A CONSPIRACYYYYYY REEEEEEEEEEEEE
is respect the cameron ex wife, she is a solid director - ironically, doing masculine movies. hurt locker cuts between the addiction of war and going back home, living a boring life, is kino.
now the lady from american psycho never did anything decent before and after the movie, all that she did was supposed to be ironic and like paul verhoeven, she failed miserably: everybody loves patrick bateman the same way you watch robocop and starship troopers with your dick hard.
and they both suck
It is for high IQ anons
is this movie similar to The Vanishing?

What.
cunny kino
>Pointless as in this movie has absolutely no reason to exist.I
Nothing has any reason to exist. People that unironically say shit like this to "critique" a movie are faggots.
Be best, faggot.
>the movie literally is "directed by a woman"
What does this even mean? You might as well turn the director having thumbs into a complaint
>Complains about not adhering to book
>Post is full of grammatical and syntax errors
Ramsey left Jane Got a Gun (there is no "his" in the title you moron) because original cast member Fassbender was being a jackass and the producers screwing around with the budget
Jude Law and Darius Khondji left in solidarity with her
Notice how anyone who defends this movie is attacking me rather than explaining why the movie is good?Annihilation was wasted potential, this movie got nothing going on for it, absolutely nothing.
I've read the book this film is based on, I cant recall what was removed or changed
Books are changed when being adapted all the time its a routine occurrence
Why are you so apoplectic about it when a woman directs it?
>Pointless as in this movie has absolutely no reason to exist.
Are you talking about yourself?
Do you have a single fact to back that up?
Music, emotion, action, it's got all that going for it
Unfortunately, I Was Really There watching the dumb movie and I wish I Was Never Really There
Why'd he leave the other girl?

Damn you really convinced me, give me your kik so we can watch this movie together Daniella.Or is it Jackie, maybe Alexandra, Robertha, fucking Geraldine? What do you go by now dude?
You dumb faggot. I was trying not to "attack you"
reminder people like OP said the exact same tier shit about drive when it came out and only started praising it once the trash reddit approved memes about it came out
its means that the movie has a feminine approach. men and women are different and they will offer a different perspective over the same material - thats why i compare how DRIVE, from nwr stick to the material and how this movie took liberties that turn him into an artsy fartsy experience.
about jane got her gun, the remaker was because natalie portman, producer of this failed shit, on the golden globes of last year, talk about only "meeeeeeen" beijng nominated as directors.
well: she did hire a woman to direct her movie, and the woman didnt appear to work. them she calls a male director to clean the whole shit. just appreaciating the irony and hipocrisy.
Even though Drive rips off Thief and devolves into murder porn because of Refn being a fucking hack, it also has the better cinematography, better music, style and real human dialogue.
You don't see a 14 year old girl killing a man then going on to eat dinner and then console the main character with saying ''Joe, it's ok.''
This is just bad writing and a wrong, very exaggerated portrayal of a sexual abuse victim.
the whole third act is different, basically.
the merits on the movie are in being able to create, trough editing, the mental instability of the character, but the director took freedoms that scream "im a chick".
wich is fine, i dont think the movie is shit, its just forgetable and over pretentious, i just pointed out, since everybody traces a parallel between THIS and DRIVE, that the approach of the directors are completly different.
NWR follow the book as much as he can, the irish chick, at the third act, create a scenario were its hards to understand how much is left of joaquins character - while the book is crystal clear at establishing the main character at a disturbing - but damaged - killing machine.
I don't think Nina's behaviour is exaggerated, but even if it is, this film is indeed a piece of fiction. Goose killing a dude in an elevator isn't exactly realistic either...
Nina has been abused repeatedly, drugged and betrayed by her own father. Of course she would act in the most unhinged way; especially given how subdued she was all the time, she simply went off like a bomb and killed her abuser. Her comforting Joe is hardly strange. He has helped her and tried to comfort her before and she recognises (or rather, has recognised before) that Joe is mentally weak or impaired in a way. Besides, I think she is not only comforting him, but also herself, voicing her hopes that things will be alright for them. Whether she really believes that will be the case, we don't know.
This movie is not Drive. Comparing this movie to Drive is conspicuously sophomoric. You write exactly like a 12 year old girl and you're saying that You Were Never Really Here was obviously directed by a women. Well you're obviously a 12 year old girl. Stop being so feminine. Capital letters are not the patriarchy. Spelling words correctly is not problematic.
hurt locker is fucking awful
>the irish chick, at the third act, create a scenario were its hards to understand how much is left of joaquins character - while the book is crystal clear at establishing the main character at a disturbing - but damaged - killing machine.
I think the film managed to convey this fact splendidly without spelling it out. Joe's acts of self-harm, moments of panic, constant state of alienation, scars, flashbacks... they all paint a psychological portrait of a man who has been abused as a child and who still suffers consequences of the abuse, as well as a victim of PTSD triggered by other situations (the chocolate bar, the trafficked women). And he is violent, this is very obvious as well.
And please point out what exactly is pretentious about this film, I'm curious.
You had the chance to say point break
shitty movie, felt like watching nothing
For a minute I thought you were calling point break shit. That's way better than hurt locker
This. Read the shortstory too and the film completely fucked it up with its retarded vagueness.
Kys, pseud. You aren't intellectual, get over it and stop embarassing yourself.
Imagine being filtered by the best movie of that year
B-but they didn't outright say that Joe was a violent wreck of a man! Fuck this vague shit, Drive was so much better and not vague at all!
What? How is Drive about dealing with past trauma and PTSD whatsoever?
You don't understand both this and Drive
Retard. It was a terrible adaptation (couldn't even get Joe's physicality right) and a terrible movie at that. It was
-as much as I hate that meme-
>I'm acting
the movie.
They've obviously shown that he was a violent wreck of a man, completely fucked up the situation he was put in to, ending with him losing all that kept him alive, about to go all out with a vengeful blow. It was heavily feminized and I'm not surprised you trannies like it.
just me and everybody else compare this film with DRIVE, even the fucking producers, who sell it like drive and taxi driver for the 21st century. add something to the discussion or shut the fuck and stop projecting your fantasies about 12 year old girls, dipshit.
Feminized how?
Also nice meme:
>adaptation must be faithful in order to be good
You're one of these special snowflakes, eh?
By all the overdone drama with him looking like a sad fucking panda, you retard. Stop taking estrogen and you may realize yourself.
>adaptation must be faithful in order to be good
>and a terrible movie at that
I'd say it's more like the last act of Taxi Driver plus an epilogue.
>dude this PTSD ridden beyond trauma filled person is not that happy lmao so feminized am i rite
You are either 12 or mentally challenged
It's about the direction, you tranny.
Politicians have been fucking young girls a lot longer than Pizzagate's been around. The movie's based on a novella that came out in 2013, long before Pizzagate was made up. Get off the internet and go out into the real world.
Tell me how
She was dead.
>He thinks at least his mom died sleeping
>Then he remembers her habit of pretending to be asleep to scare him
>He realizes that maybe she thought he was the one coming into her room and pretended to be asleep to spook him like she always does
>But then she felt the pillow being put over her face
>She probably thought her son was so frustrated with her after putting up with her senile problems that he decided to kill her
>Joe realizes all of this while asking if his mother felt any pain and the man he's shot tells him that she was asleep
>He has no way of ever knowing
Joe... Had a hard life
thats it. the novel is direct. the guy is damage killing machine and the story dont stop moving foward in a very solid construction, not once offering you 'interpretations' to be made. it is what it is.
i think the scene were he sing along with the guy who just killed his mother says a lot. no normal person and no even a fucked up like him would do that.
the end is also... meh.
he commits suicide, but he doenst, it is clear when the blood is in the bill, two realities bleeding into each other. youre waiting for something more straight foward, youu dont get and its not that the problem to me, i just tought it was kinda empty really.
i enjoy the how much the movie mix his interpretation of his mental state and the story happening and the budget, limited, in good use, with cheap and short but effective scenes - in the army, the dead girls, etc.
i dont think is bad, i think the marketing kinda offer something that the product isnt.
Keeping the camera on his fucking depressed face for almost the whole runtime, while having the violence all happen off-screen.
great perpective on the scene. what he does? sing a song with the dude, after a shooting that could atract the cops. OPERATIVE AS FUCK.
No, it's not. The direction is fine. Does he look like a sad panda? I don't think so, he is fat and tall and violently kills people, but he is also a dude who suffers from PTSD and who has been abused throughout his life quite roughly. If you can't stomach the idea of people being fragile, I'm sorry, but you must live in a very hermetic environment. From psychological standpoint, him being unhinged and depressed is perfectly reasonable. It would be much less realistic to see Joe, a dude with huuuge mental baggage, act happy-go-lucky and tough 24/7.
Fucking pseudo-intellectuals, I swear. You mongrel missed the whole point.
That is the literal point of the film you dumb fuck, you being denied of the violence just like Joe is at the end. That's literally the entire point of his breakdown at the mansion, not for it to be a Tarantino like cheesy empty "cool scene".
And why do you think focusing on the characters expression is a "feminized" thing, especially in a character driven film like this? Is Come and See an effeminate film?
Why would I listen to someone who obviously writes like a 12 year old girl and vehemently claims the movie is obviously directed by a woman? You don't even have a sense of the irony in your pathetically weak attempt at formulating an argument. Even after being constantly BTFO in this thread you're still sticking around with the childish arrogance that you're somehow correct in your undeveloped brain.
>even the fucking producers
Citation needed.
>the ending isn't straightforward
dumb niggers in here
Completely missing the point of the shortstory again. Joe isn't denied the violence in it, all the abuse and finally the loss of his work and mother that kept him from killing himself set him free to go on a suicide run against those he feels deserve it. It is supposed to be akin to Man on Fire. Even on it's own the movie fails for the most part, simply due to its painful lack of substance. Taking a camera and pointing it in a depressed looking guy's face for about an hour runtime is worthless and an inherently female thing to do. Pathetic pisswanks like you may eat it up, because some gutterslut at art school told you to, but it's absolutely worthless spending that much time on emphasizing Joe's trauma. And yes, Tarkovsky is for feminized faggots and bugmen too.
>this writing
I have hard time to take you seriously, but let's see
>i think the scene were he sing along with the guy who just killed his mother says a lot. no normal person and no even a fucked up like him would do that.
He is not a normal person, we have already established that. He is unstable, in shock (after all it was a stressful situation, his mother was killed, he had to kill some people as well). He is aware that dying is scary and tries to offer some solace to the dying dude, since after all, the deed is done, his mother is dead and the dude is about to die as well. The singing may also pertain to the scene of him and his mother polishing the cutlery. In this case, it would have symbolic meaning, that is Joe singing for himself/his deceased mother/his memories of her, rather for the merit of the dying dude.
I don't understand your second paragraph, it's empty because it presents two realities? But why? The other reality in which he kills himself is just his suicidal ideation which obviously prevails in his troubled mind. I think that it is supposed to show the audience that despite their happy ending, Joe is still thoroughly messed up.
The violence happening off-screen happens off-screen for a reason. The action is not the focus of this film; Joe is. In most scenes you get to glimpse the aftermath of his actions, probably because that is how he views his opponents. Just obstacles which stop being obstacles once they become bodies on the ground. I can see why it's disappointing though, especially if you like or expect powerful action takes.
It's a deconstruction of the quiet white male violent revenge fantasy genre and its kino
the obsession with 12 years old girls, the inability to understand that women and men can have different artist approches to the same material.
you must be the game stop tranny.
The violence is part of him. Cutting around it is retarded.
>t. tranny
Funnily enough, a good bunch of those are lead by Asians and Blacks.
Some of us haven't read the short story, so bringing it up is pointless, unless you want this thread to be a comparative analysis of the novella and its adaptation.
It's more character driven film. It's almost nothing like Drive. The main point is exploration of a damaged main character who is dealing with past trauma and PTSD. Just because a movie doesn't fit into a certain genre box or whatever you imagined it would be, that doesn't make it bad or pointless. It takes more experimental approach to exploring the main character, it's not just him talking about what he feels, the film conveys his emotions visually. It takes more unusual and visual focused approach to narrative rather than conventional one. I'm not saying that it fully succeeds but it's interesting to see something different.
>Taking a camera and pointing it in a depressed looking guy's face for about an hour runtime is worthless
It's literal visual storytelling you mental midget.
Tell me what is happening in this scene in the webm
>the same material
Wilful ignorance at its finest. You're only hurting yourself at this point.
How much of a fortnite discordzoomer are you? Do you really think Tarkovsky invented close ups? Really?
Fascinating levels of brainlet ignorance
do you think there is a happy ending?
a twelve year old girl just get into the mansion and kill all those guys like a ninja?
i think after he drops his mother on the river, all the rest is speculative, under the perspective of a man under too much preasure, who, problably, snaped with no return.
My mistake, because yes, it's "happy ending", really. They managed to escape the bad guys and kill their opponents but it just leaves them more damaged and lost.
>It's literal visual storytelling you mental midget.
No, it isn't, faggot. It loses its value as soon due to redundancy.
>Tell me what is happening in this scene in the webm
I've watched it as soon as it came out and didn't enjoy it, hence why I can't contextualize every fucking scene, faggot. It's clearly him suffering from his horrible situation again, probably him being close to tearing up, breaking down or losing himself in a memory/sheltering himself from one. It doesn't matter. There isn't any detail that changes the overall situation. It's worthless.
Your reading comprehension is so shit, you honestly should stop posting altogether.
incest child, its not that hard: men and women can both adapt a book and the result will be different because 1) theyre different people - redundant to explain, but youre a retard, so its important 2) because men and women are different and theyre going to offer a different vision, a diferent sensibility, another approach to the exact same story.
doesnt mean its bad, it means its different.
Jesus Christ, the number of people defending this shisthow is embarrassing.
The photography was almost completely inconsequential of its underlying themes, all of which were totally pastiche and pseudo-intellectual at best.
It's clear that they ran out of money for licensing after they acquired the rights to Rosie & the Originals - Angel Baby and try to lean into its practicality as a motif to juxtapose sequences of cheesy 80's slasher violence. At least Dario Argento had the sensibility of color to drive such a statement home.
There isn't a single facet of this picture that isn't compromised by its total lack of budget and total lack of style. Absolute dogshit.
Is this what happens to your brain after your watch 20+ capeshit flicks that you think some chin-stroking Taxi Driver rehash is deep shit?
All of you are pathetic.

I'm sorry it was too boring for you. Sounds like Alita should be right up your alley.

Glad you outted yourself as an absolute mental midget to everyone.
That webm is the most basic visual storytelling of a character contemplating suicide on the train tracks. Stands in the dark, leans slowly forward contemplating the thought while slowly and then recoiling when he fully enters the light and the train passess by. No exposition no talking, all through visuals.
This is nothing advanced at all, literally the most basic of cues, and you ofcourse can't even process something as simple as that, let alone the entire film.
Come back when you finish high school
He looks like a wizard.
nah actually it was just dogshit
I hated this shit. What a waste of an hour.
The first suicide attempt was fine but they pulled that garbage like 6 times. There was barely even a plot, just repetitive suicide scenes and shots of his stupid looking face.
>holy friggin crap he's murdering them with a hammer on cctv while a pop song plays in the background. epic!
You're very easily impressed. You're like a small child.
This. Bookfags always whinge, it's nature. I want to read it because of the film though
>Sounds like Alita should be right up your alley.
Sure as hell was less feminized than this shit.
Stop posting, it's getting beyond embarassing. I said I can't contextualize every single scene, you mongrel. There is no train in the .webm, so fuck off.

The literal subject of this very thread
You spend the entire thread writing like a 12 year old girl and claiming that You Were Never Really Here is obviously directed by a woman and don't see the irony in that at all.
Your entire argument hinges on your mistaken belief that Drive and You Were Never Really Here are literally the same movie but they were directed by people of different genders which is why they are different. Nice logical fallacy, it defeats your entire argument. I'm glad you finally figured out how to use capital letters. Sorry for mansplaining so hard at you for the entire thread, but I probably should have expected an intellectually deficient minor to get so triggered. I'll use smaller words next time I'm dealing with blatant imbeciles.
I liked it for the most part, but there was one track that played after he escapes with the little girl. It sounded like some pop indie crap and didn't fit the tone of the film at all.
>The literal subject of this very thread
>edgier, worse and very clearly made by a woman?
Vague terms that work based on some sort of resemblance. You're dumb. Stop posting.
not really, the vanishing is a more of a slowburner but both are great

Unbased and bluepilled.

Why don't you fuck her already instead of projecting your sick fantasies onto us?
>Your entire argument hinges on your mistaken belief that Drive and You Were Never Really Here are literally the same movie but they were directed by people of different genders which is why they are different.
No one said that, retard. There is some resemblence between Drive and YWNRH. Women and men interpret the same material differently. Those are two statements, not one.
Not him but please keep this up. You're a big beautiful lolcow and we all want to keep milking your butthurt.

I think I am. Not even saying it's bad, it just didn't fit in the movie one bit.
It's on you faggots to provide evidence for your claim.

I don't watch anything with bokeh on the poster.

Overall this movie isn’t mind blowing but I like watching Phoenix do his thing.
What thing exactly? Staring expressionsly straight into the camera as it completes a pan of his beard?

Holy hell, you're stupid, dude. It's entirely on you to prove your claim and you'll have to do harder than write 'scroll up'. If you don't, you're the one getting btfo.

Correct
Not a compliment
I was a little disappointed by the film as many critics said it was basically Taxi Driver. It think it lacks the elements that make Taxi Driver great. It lacks the atmosphere of Taxi Driver. But it also lacks the authentic exposure of loneliness and decadent behaviour that can result in violence. Which I legitimately think are elements only men can truly correlate with.
>tarkovsky
