One of the greatest animated films ever created, unironically. And I don't even like anime, regularly.

its like the 2001 of anime

It's a Gnostic ending.
Shinji chosed to keep fighting against the Demiurge instead of Tikkun Olam.

I think you should take it to

Incredibly verbose and bleak but creative and undeniably beautiful. Deserves pretty much all the praise it gets as being the quintessential anime.

Ditto. My friend basically had to force me because I used to have a massive aversion to anime. Now EoE is one of my all time favourite movies.

it's made only for brainlets who didn't get the series ending

>not realising that the series ending and the movie compliment each other perfectly and are fantastic both individually and together

Easily my favorite film. I genuinely think it should be tough in film classes

The perfect double feature

Nothing like it, fucking amazing.

As someone who did go to film school they showed us lots of movies that were experimental conceptually in terms of kind of leaving the narrative and having the fourth wall be broken in a philosophical way. None of them worked as well as this. It always felt like a cop out or lazy way to explore those concepts but with Evangelion it felt so truthful to what the creators were trying to say and to show. It should absolutely be taught in film classes.

>I still think about this movie every day since I first saw it.
pretty much exactly this but i think this will end up in the list of things that i will probably never watch again

the greatest piece of art of all time. life changing.

They are completely antithetical to one another

Genuine 100 percent brainlet.

Can't wait for the Hollywood live action genderswapped remake.

thats a big word for a tiny brain!

>show's ending
shinji learns to take responsibility for his own existance and fully realizes himself as an individual
>movie ending
shinji does nothing, learns nothing, passively brings about the apocalypse just so people can know suffering and when he is rewarded with the object of his desire he tries to destroy it only to then fail again because he is now a complete husk of a human being

>shinji learns to take responsibility for his own existance and fully realizes himself as an individual
he does this in eoe too. thats why he comes back.
>..passively brings about the apocalypse
this isn't opposed to the series it's simply not explained
>..object of his desire
how can it be passive if that's his desire? whoops!!
>fail again
he doesn't fail he removes himself from instrumentality because he understands people have to be individual and accept each other instead of it being forced etc.
pretty simple!

Don’t pretend the 2deep4u original ending wasn’t as minimal and abstract as it was solely because they were out of money.

Wasn’t the series ending a representation of what his “self” was going through as it was trying to enter the instrumentality?
And EoE was what was literally happening in the meantime. I don’t see how they’re contradictory. Canonically, immediately after he accepted himself he woke up on the orange Gatorade beach

cringeworthy piece of pretentious shit which is supposed to make the fans of a children show jizz all over their tv screens

story is literally about huge robots piloted by horny teenagers deciding the fate of the world. Also lot of biblical (and other religions) imagery just for the sake of looking cool.

Maybe it is just the cultural barrier, but as a westerner I just don't see the appeal. On the other hand, I like a lot of other jap animated movies, so...

Bingo

It turned me into a newt.
I got better.

it made a killer amv other than that this shit is gay as fuck.

Best films of 90s

1) Eyes wide shut
2) End of Evangelion
3) Twin Peaks : Fire Wall With Me
4) Lost Highway
5) Goodfellas

go watch md geist you basedestofboyests

its just comfy, the whole world getting turned into an ocean of thoughts and the one kid who would benefit from that most finally decides that life is worth living for the experience of living alone. Its beautifully cruel

>self confessed weeb
>bad taste
seems right lad

>there was a thread around all fucking day with people btfo Evangelion left and right
>evafag starts a new thread

REI IS BEST WAIFU

Attached: 40.jpg (1200x1725, 548K)

Yea Forums are better at talking about the film than Yea Forums.

that said, i wish there weren't as much arguing over which ending is better. the series's ending and the film are equally fulfilling and both communicate the same events. and what the series's ending lacks in spectacle, it makes up for with the "parody" mini episode, which is the funniest, most brilliant, and most pointed thing i have seen from a series, animated or not. (the film's version of the parody segment is the live action cuts in the theatre)

also, what did gendo tell ritsuko?

Eva is pretty old senpai, its boomer anime.

Nobody who's a weab in 2019 still cares about this old show

I always thought it was this

I need you.

Swap Lost Highway for Phantom Menace and you’ve got yourself a patrician list

Maybe I’m an idiot but I always thought Gendo was sympathetic. A raging asshole no doubt, but I saw him as more tragic than villainous. His goals were from a pretty heartfelt place, it’s just that he was willing to sacrifice far too much to achieve them.

do i need to watch the others

No. Watch the anime then the film end of evangelion.

The first half of the anime is admittedly pretty shit becuase you're expecting some masterpiece but it's just generic trash. Stick with it though because it gets good after that and it was all worth it.

he was always just as big a coward as shinji, but he took things in the opposite direction.

there is probably something to say that shinji would have ended up like gendo, this is the conclusion to living like a hedgehog while gendo had of course sexual relations with the women he didn't have any meaningful relationship with them.
we are tlod that gendo keeps shinji at arms length because they are similar as the hedgehog but can that be true of gendos other 'relationships' considering the outcomes? he doesn't just hurt them he fucking kills them lol.

death note is better than eva

Uninteligible without the videogame backstory

That’s not true, the plot of the big grandiose happenings onscreen is much less important than the introspective shit going on with Shinji, Misato, Asuka, etc.

this is true, but that animation tho

Death Note gets incredibly shit though. At its peak then maybe you’ve got a case, but NGE never drops as low as Death Note

Death Note is actually exciting and has an intriguing plot

90% of Eva is "REEEE I HATE MY LIFE, FUCK YOU DAD I WISH YOU WERE DEAD"

it's all explained in the show you evageeks retard

What is the video game backstory?

>he wants things explained for him

Attached: david-lynch.jpg (618x412, 114K)

I found NGE more emotionally compelling. Death Note has a great premise and really good execution but I didn’t feel any sort of great attachment to it. Evangelion touches on a lot of emotional and spirtual ideas that I felt more connected to

Think about it.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 1-20, 21'-24' (Director's cuts), 25-26
Skip the recap movie and watch EoE
The rebuilds are shitty and gay

Have him watch EoE, then at least he'll see an ending.

This

Isn't Kaworu the object of his desire?

Watch Episodes 1 to 26, then watch End of Evangelion. Keep in mind the End of Evangelion movie is an "alternate ending" and meant to replace episodes 25 and 26.

Ignore everything else. First 2 movies of rebuild are okay, but 3 was so shit it makes the entire thing not worth it.
