Viewers didn't just like Alara because she was the best girl by leagues, it's because she was a fun character without trying. The only other characters who even come close are Bortus and Norm, and Bortus has already been run into the ground with Seth's shitty humour and Norm is a side character.
There's no one else to latch on to, the rest of the cast is dull, and this is reflected by the viewer count which went from 8 million to the low 2s and 3s.
I wish the Orville had been a runaway success. I wanted it to be. But it never could be with Seth McReddit at the helm.
