Has a good movie ever begun with a voiceover exposition dump?

Fellowship of the Ring

The scene where Harkonnen’s fat ass is flying around, bathing in oil and pulling keys out of ginger twinks is B A S E D L Y N C H

Dune is the only good Lynch film.

Damn, you got me there. Dune would also probably benefit from being spread over several movies.

>directed by David Lynch

wat

end the harkonnen scenes, as well as the dreaming ones and the worms ones

it's not bad, but overhyped like suspiria. somehow you need to pretend to like it because there'll be a remake of it

I actually loved this movie. Will to Power.

Do you guys think the new Dune movie will remove the Weirding Way? Is it unfilmable like Lynch said?

Is it true zendaya is gonna be Chani in the new one?

It's going to be meme'd here as a masterpiece because a new one is being made and this place is a contrarian hellhole.

Lynch has always been a hack. Twin Peaks series 3 was a massive failure.

doesn't sting only show up for like 5 minutes and just glower and get his shit wrecked
that's one of the only things i think i know about this movie desu. probably ruining the book for myself by proxy

>I WILL KILL HIM!

it was his coke years

Yes. In the book, he has more scenes that establish his character, motivations and abilities. He's important to the events of the story as the Baron intended to have him rule Arrakis and eventually marry Irulan and the Bene Geserat intended to have him marry a female Paul to complete their breeding program. Like many aspects of Lynch's Dune, Sting's portrayal is very iconic, but utterly fails to capture most of the book's substance.

I'm not sold on some of the cast, carl drogo as Duncan nah, Brolin as stilgar nah monkey face zendaya as chani

Lynch is a pretentious hack.

I wont mind Jason momo as Duncan as much if it's just the first book.

I liked Dune's story but christ was it hard to read.

Dune is a weird book, its probably the only novel I've read which does the "chosen one" plot but it doesn't leave the revelation to the end, in fact right from thr first chapter characters speculate that Paul might be thr Kwizach Haderach. Same deal with Yueh, you know from the start he's a traitor and will betray Leto. I guess Herbert just dudn't like twists.

>"chosen one" plot
It's largely a subversion of the whole messiah angle. Paul's fate is really quite tragic.

That aspect of Dune makes the attempt to hype it as "the Game of Thrones!" so laughable. Besides being a major inspiration for derivative works like GoT and Star Wars, Dune just lays it all out, early and often. GoT attracted interest and praise by being "unpredictable", "anyone could die, it's so realistic!", nuStar Wars relies on mystery boxes. But there are no such mysteries in Dune. No shocking twists, no hidden indications of an impending plot reveal. It's all published and locked in.

>Dune is the only good Lynch film.
Do yourself a favour and watch A Straight Story.

It's also better to completely ignore it because dune's story falls off a cliff into fullretard territory fast after a couple of books.

Shit gets weird after 1 and 2 which can be pretty much read as one book. That being said dune wraps up pretty well
