The tesseract was never part of the ship she was flying, it was always on the station. Pretty sure they said that at some point. The engine she blew up was just using some of the power harvested from it.

She is literally only captured by skrulls to advance the plot, as soon as she no longer needs to be there she instantly escapes. At no point in the flick does she ever face hardship she needs to learn from, she literally gets up every single time completely unfazed, having learned nothing. It’s just a cool name that illustrates the passage of time between films and foreshadows her future involvement.

Different user, but her hardship and learning comes from gaining perspective about how the war has been affecting Skrulls, remembering her origin, realizing that she’s being manipulated by the Kree, etc. Her power level could be a problem for keeping the stakes, but the character itself makes sense.
