I’m an early 20s friendless social experiencelss flirtless partyless touchless virgin. I’m ready to venture out into the world and make a change, how do haircuts work?
I have a weird, receded, asymmetric hairline and I’ve been cutting it for years now on my own, it obviously looks horrible so I’m hoping maybe I can get something decent. How long does it need to be? And do I go to a barbershop, or a hair salon? Do I have to tip? (I’m American). What do I say to the person cutting my hair, should I ask them for advice on what would look good? Will they laugh at me?
if the store says walk-ins welcome you don't need an appointment, but you can still make one. and yes, ask them what would look good. they won't laugh, they're probably seen much worse
Grayson Torres
The place I go to allows you to check in online, but that's just so you don't have to wait once you get there. You can still just show up and say you want a haircut.
Once they call me back I tell the lady what I want and then put earphones in and watch Youtube videos on my phone while she cuts my hair so I don't have to talk to her.
Jason Bennett
Barbershop, right? I'm not American but I think that's where you go if you are a man. Maybe just ask the barber what would look good on you?
Jaxon James
Do I have to look at my ugly face and side profile in the mirrors there? Will they want to talk to me or leave me alone?
Liam Sullivan
i like hair salons because women cut hair better than men
make an appointment, call. tip 20% ask her what she thinks would look good they won't laugh at you, they'll be nice
Alexander Wright
Draw them a picture of what you want on a napkin
Christopher Reyes
Where I go they face you in front of a huge mirror and it is kind of awkward. It really depends on who is cutting your hair, some people understand if you want to be quiet while others are painfully trying to force it.
Cameron Ward
Go to a barbershop, don't call ahead just walk in. For a normal haircut you can say you were thinking of the number 4 clippers on back and sides and leave it a little long on top. Feel free to tell them which weird bald spots you want dealt with. They'll probably try to ask you about your life or bring up current events, just keep your replies light and friendly. Tip 20%.
John Ward
They don't talk to you if you don't engage with them. You do have to tip. On a $15 cut I just give the dude a $20.
Thomas Cox
They might want to talk depending on where you go or they may not care and chat with their coworkers. But you probably need the practice of interacting with real people so don't avoid it.
I'd recommend going to a barbershop. Dudes are usually less small talky with you aside from asking what kind of cut you want, unless you bring up a topic. Most of the time the guys at my barbershop just kind of talk to everyone and roast each other. It's pretty entertaining.
Hunter Reyes
>not just giving yourself a buzz cut at home
Lincoln Butler
I’d rather talk and get a stylish cut then sit in silence but get some military fade thing that doesn’t fit my hairline at all. I can suck it up for 20 minutes or whatever.
Jose Sanchez
What’s this tipping shit, you tip your fucking barbers?
Brody Watson
Go to a barber shop, you don't need an appointment, tell them you'd like your hair cut short or something, they won't laugh at you until you leave
Kevin Parker
Yes it's expected in the US.
John Ross
You should have a babe cutting your hair and her tits are usually on your shoulder
Nathaniel Harris
Nigger just close your eyes

It's easiest to tell them which clipper setting you want. "Number 1" is a buzzcut, "number 2" is a step up from that. I just say "number 2 on the sides and back, and about x inches off the top", depending how short I want it. #2 on the sides/back with about an inch of hair on top is extremely low maintenance and lasts me for several weeks before I have to go in again. I have a full head of hair though, so it might be different for you.

Really hard to believe a Yea Forums troll wrote this. Feels like copy pasta

Yes they have a razor at your throat

I'm 34 and was still having my mom take me until recently. >go with her to run some errands >says she wants to get my haircut >nervous because the usual barbershop I go to is NOT in the mall >see some place with fade or cutz in the title >it appears to be a hispanic barbershop >everyone in there is hispanic >all the dudes are getting their gangster scrap fade >mfw I was just going to tell him to 'clean it up a little on top' >mfw I looked at my mom and she knew I wanted to leave >mfw she took me to the asian barbershop where they already know cuz I regular customah
Find a good one near you. It might be expensive but it's worth it. I get my haircut once a month. Ask for a low fade starting at a level 1 on the sides and have the top be about about 2 inches long.
Then invest in some good hair product and watch youtube videos how to make your hair look good.
Also start working out and buy nicer clothes that fit really well. You dont have to buy expensive shit because a lot of nice shit is actually cheap. Buy basic stuff that fits really well. Stuff like plain black t shirts Jean's etc.
Seriously just go to some mens fashion YouTube channels, the popular ones give good advice generally. Learn how to be stylish. Teaching men's fashion YouTube channel is decent, but gets repetitive. Also he shills a lot of products but some of them are decent
Youtube is also great for workout stuff. I recommend athleanx, really good youtube channel and isnt bro science bullshit

Seriously dude I started working out and upd my fashion game and it has worked wonders. I am pretty much Chad now
Blake Evans
go there, say, Buzzcut wait him or her to finish and then get out without making an scene.
Carson Richardson
Yeah but I have a receded NW2.5 hairline, decently close to NW3. I don’t know what to do with it, I cut it at home to hide my recession but I’m afraid the whores at the salon will unveil my full subhumanity. Are hair stylists good at covering up hairline recession?
Caleb Ward
What do I ask for to get this cut without taking a picture in?
a lot of places have like design charts of different styles on their wall
Lucas James
They'll know which cuts look fine with a receding hairline. Stop worrying about hair recession, people (especially women) are more turned off about your insecurity over your hair loss than they are by your actual hair loss.
Hudson Ross
How's your head shape? Think you could pull off a Jason Statham?
I wouldn't say they dont care about it because I know quite a few women that flare very turned off by it.
However with the right hair style you can make it look not so bad or fine. Its honestly the guys who go for hairstyles that very clearly dont work with your hairline that turn girls off.
And honestly just go bald if it's really really bad. A lot of Chicks really dig bald, youd be surprised
Oliver Johnson
I'm not saying they don't care about it, I'm saying that they care way more about obvious insecurities.
Dominic Brown
Barbers and stylists are pretty good at reading verbal and non-verbal social cues. If you don't want conversation they'll know quickly.
Brandon Wood
I have a tiny chin and no jawline. Could never pull off a buzzcut
Henry Hughes
Am latino but don't do this. Many only know how to cut black people hair, and latino's that want black people haircuts.
Oliver Butler
Absolutely based >tfw I haven’t paid for a haircut in 6 years I’ve been doing this since I was 20, and I still have the original clippers, buzz cuts look great as long as you pack on a little bit of muscle and aren’t a fatty
Caleb Powell
>I wouldn't say they dont care about it because I know quite a few women that flare very turned off by it.
I know quite a few who have never cared about it either way. I think it probably depends on whether their dads were receding/bald or not. I receded pretty early and have thinned quite a bit but just buzz it really short. My wife knows I'm pretty bummed about it but she said she is attracted to my face, not my hair.
I went to a black barber's once when I was a kid. took like 30 mins and it was so hot and all the hair was sticking to me, they didn't know what the hell they were doing.
