never noticed he actually had a face
One of the best examples of practical effects ever. Up there with the original Mothra and King Ghidorah.
Fuck, neither did I. I thought it looked creepier without one
I was hoping that there would be a giant man eating plant in Kong Skull Island that they could have used to set up Biollante like how people thought the giant spider would be Kumonga
Had a biollante toy as a kid, i didnt even know what he was from, i just thought he was awesome
It grew a face later in the movie. It was just a giant flower with mouth tendrils for most of it.
Probably soon. They're playing off the kaiju as being part of the Earth's defense system against things which would threaten the natural order, and a giant plant would fit in perfectly there. And with all of the concerns about genetic engineering today, the idea of a monster who is Godzilla but also not, is certainly one they could play around with. I doubt they'll bring up Space Godzilla's role in her origins, so those two sound like the most likely scenarios for Biollante popping up in Legendary's Godzilla movies.
Will Hollywood deliver?
Who's this lad? Looks cringey and cuckish
Hopefully soon. Her and Destroyah would be great for a return. That rumor of the Destroyah tease at the end credits makes me excited. I hope we get something cool teased besides King Kong.
Some whacko scientist took his dead daughter's DNA and Godzilla's DNA and grafted them with the DNA of a rose plant and made a giant rose monster.
I dont want to be that guy but. "she"
>I don’t want to be that guy
Then don’t.
Sorry
Actually I'm not.
Biollante vs. Hedorah.
Who takes it?
>he
>plant vs flying pollution death monster that eats away at anything it comes in contact with
Hedorah
Which Godzilla has the best angryface
GMK
Hedorah, easy. Biollante can't regenerate fast enough to withstand Hedorah breaking it down to slush.
Earth Godzilla is smug.
Probably Hedorah, unless they fight somewhere with little pollution and Biollante grows to an even greater form.
Hedorah would destroy just about every monster in the franchise. He's unironically Godzilla's toughest opponent.
didnt this thot try to eat zilla
No, you're thinking of Orga
Yeah, so did Orga. Godzilla gets snacked on pretty often.
>Vorega
What? You really never noticed the giant tusked crocodile head, or are you looking somewhere else?
No clue, but the director of King of the Monsters
(which, coincidentally, we are only 81 days away from) said he wished he could have put Biollante (and Gigan) in the movie

biolante is like bulbasaur
both are weak and useless only contrarian boomer likes them
Earth Godzilla looks like he's trying to seduce me with those eyes
it's moreso "you kids get the fuck off my lawn"
Kong vs. Godzilla 2020 doesn't have to be the end, does it? It's one of the only franchises left that hasn't been ruined and shouldn't end with only three movies.
>the man who made this and Gunhed is also responsible for the Heisei movies that came after it
How is that even possible? Dude literally got worse as time went on.
I honestly don't think Godzilla could be ruined if they wanted to. Toho is still very strict with their licenses. Assuming Toho does give the thumbs up on some terrible movie, the worse they could do is not show Godzilla much and have him die so a new Godzilla monster takes the spot-light. They'd never do that though. Worse we'll get is rehashes of other movies or only having 5% of the movie being monster related.
In fairness, Biollante was created by a contest winner, which I think was the last time they asked for outside inspiration.
All we know for sure is that the contract is being re-negotiated, not renewed or cancelled, so we'll just have to wait (and seeing the movies a bunch of times wouldn't hurt)
>Ghidorah was a very interesting design because obviously he has three heads, two tails- a very unusual anatomy. Again, we looked a lot at certain types of lizards but also snakes. Our biggest influence on him were cobras. Because we didn't want him to be a big lumbering creature, so in the way we made him move, he's always snake-like. When you look at the scales on Ghidorah's neck, they're visually sampled from yellow cobras We looked at wolf packs because it was a very interesting thing to see how three wolves would move as a pack, and we used that as an inspiration for how the three heads would move together
Personally I'd like to see Space Godzilla or Orga be the big bad in Goji vs Kong, but I'd be fine with a completely new monster or Destroyah
>kong and goji are fighting
>something falls from the sky and crashes, leveling the city and leaving the only things standing being kong and zilla
>you hear Space Zilla's roar
I've always wondered if each of Ghidorah's heads has its own brain capable of independent thought and action or is there one single overbrain that makes decisions for the entire monster. The way the heads move suggest they aren't discussing things in committee.
There's some good left in the world after all.
The heads have their own personalities(they even have three separate motion capture artists, one for each head) but I don't think it's to the extent that they are independent
Oh, I was talking about the special effects. Biollante has some of the most consistently good and well-shot effects in the series. Nothing else Kawakita did ever came close and his later work is often quite lazy. If we're talking about complete films, Godzilla vs Destoroyah has a lot of uncredited inspiration from a script submitted for what became Godzilla vs Biollante. Miki/psychic concept in general, Burning Godzilla, and Godzilla's attack on Hong Kong all came from that script. It was written by an American Godzilla fan.
>something falls from the sky
>dust is clearing
>big bad music starts kicking in
There are a few cut-away looks at monster biology, but I have no idea what it says.
How do I get into Godzilla? Is it possible as an adult?
Of course. You have to keep an open mind for some of the movies though. I'd recommend watching the 1954 one first.
I vaguely remember reading something
once that said the guy behind the effects got butthurt about not winning some award for his work in Vs Biollante and decided to just stop trying for all of the other movies.
Jet jaguar is the most deserving kaiju
Fuck megalon and gigan too
Biollante and Gunhed were financial failures. He blamed himself and turned to alcohol to soothe the pain. But he somehow did get an award for Godzilla vs King Ghidorah. I guess the committee felt sorry for him and made up for overlooking his previous two works because Godzilla vs King Ghidorah definitely did not deserve it.
holy shit, thanks
I like Mothra's look
Mechagodzilla is the best enemy.
