Can someone explain this movie to me...

Can someone explain this movie to me? Yeah they're on a boat and they play some tunes but what was the main message being conveyed.

If you don't understand this movie, you are not a man.

Are you by chance a woman, OP?

Unironically toxic masculinity.
>”we need to risk our lives to catch this boat because my penis is small!!”
Small wonder that it’s worshipped on this board

Its not your fault. Women just wont ever understand this film. Don't hurt yourself thinking about it too much

He was Yea Forums all the way

He was isolated on a ship and everyone he knew turned against them and started incessantly blaming him for their trouble. It was an endless beat-down. The film makes a point to show that it is all started because he makes a mistake: he is an officer and he decides to mingle with the crew (the singing scene) and this destroys any semblance of authority he had over his men. He was a nice guy and a "sensetive boi" but not a sailor or leader of men.

Because men must be governed and Hollom was weak. He didn't deserve such a fate though.

It's just a navy war movie set in the 19th century, it celebrates the british sea power, however since it's an american production the subject was changed from the novel, in fact The Acheron was an american battleship in the book, while in the movie it's french (but built in USA)

I must have missed the time when Charles Darwin served in a warship.

MIss, it would be too hard to explain to a female.

They don't even really try to hide that Dr. Maturin is a 1:1 Darwin analogue.

You'll never be a woman.

creation is underrated charles darwin victorian kino.

He's more of a James Bond in the books.

it was all about the friends they made along the way

I've only ever read the Hornblower books, never got to the Aubrey series. It doesn't surprise me.

He couldn't wait to get on to land and study the wildlife. A brief respite to all the conflict and maiming.

In the movie he gets to the Galapagos and they insinuate that he was going to collect the species and start working on a theory of evolution a couple decades before Darwin. Then they see the Acheron and he abandons his samples.
His character is meant to be the archetype Victorian naturalist.

Friendly reminder McNulty's daughter played Annie Darwin.

You should check it out. It's great.

the armless kid was such a fuckin G in this movie

>20 books
>we only get one film

Why.

It was his sense of duty. In order to save the morale of the ship he had to die, so he did what he had to do. He's one of the truest heroes in the whole film, not a coward in the slightest.

Would you rather they turn it into a cinematic universe? Enjoy the movie you have and appreciate the fact that the people who made it respect it enough to not turn it into a mindless cash cow for the masses.

couldn't handle any more of the captain's dad jokes

>Would you rather they turn it into a cinematic universe?

Well yeah, that's how desperate I am for 18th-19th century naval kino. Black Sails is okay but doesn't feature much sailing action.

give it back

Be careful what you wish for. I'm not sure major studies have the ability to create kino on par with M&C
Refer to my previous response

>The far side of the world
There where planned sequels? I really love this movie but then it just ends and we never see the crew again.

It is based on the Jack Aubrey book series. The particular book this movie was based on was the 10th book in the series entitled *The Far Side of the World* hence the subtitle.

what? It's because bad shit keeps happening on his shifts--the singing wouldn't have mattered if his luck had been better, but when you're the guy on duty when the french attacks, or go to assist and dude who then dies, you're attracting even more attention. That and iirc he was old af for his job at the time, so he was just a useless shit well past his prime.

Imagine that, discover a new island with new and native species, dammit I born in the worst century for that.

Loosely based. It was more of a mashup of a few of the books.

Are they enjoyable like the movie or they differ that much making the movie just a thing with the name but without relation with the books??
Because now I want to read them.

Yeah I didnt get it either. Thought it was a waste of time.

fpbp

have sex femcel

The only reason the crew comes to associate the unfortunate events with Hollom is because he mingles with the crew and breaks down the hierarchical barriers that make him appear superior. If you don't believe what I'm saying posted the video where Aubrey literally spells this out to the doctor. You are free to disagree with the idea (just like the doctor) but this is the message the movie is communicating and the point of it is to highlight just how different life was in the age of sail and the different ideals that were (and needed to be) held by the men who endured that terrible life.

Yeah, hence the title which is a mashup of the 1st and 10th book titles. It isn't a beat for beat retelling of the books like 99% of all book-based movies.
I never read them. I've read the Horatio Hornblower series which is basically the same type of Royal Navy, Age of Sail, Historical Fiction series. That was kino as all hell but I just never had the time to get into the Aubrey series even though I've heard it is really good from everyone who has read it.

the movie is homosexual propaganda. the point it tries to make is that women are completely unnecessary, all you need's a few young twinks, a doctor, a cook and booze to survive comfortably. the rape scenes are left to the viewers imagination.

Wallace biography kino when?

Attached: Alfred-Russel-Wallace-c1895.jpg (640x936, 76K)

>blaming it all on the singing
>not the 30-year old in a child's role
>not his lack of proper diligence when on job
>not on his already shite reputation for having gotten others killed under his command in previous adventures
The singing scene was merely to show the lack of unity and respect the crew had for Hollam, my dude. Don't talk about the age of sail with your pleb-level knowledge.

Imagine being keelhauled.
