Because Alex Guinness was an extraordinary actor of enormous talents and refined tastes. He believed, as did most early Star Wars fans, that Star Wars was going to be a high brow space opera. Instead, he watched Star Wars devolve into ewoks, jar jars, and pew-pew orgies of CGI overuse. Luckily, he was spared the cheesy, lazy remake of A New Hope and the not-Star-Wars hyperspace-ram-it SJW-Wars.
