Loved this movie especially Alita and ido. setting was fucking cool and I was fine with the ending. I felt the same on the first viewing, but on the second I liked him more. Especially the scene where he turns down her heart - you can really see that he cares about Alita now, to the point that he’ll postpone his dream of goong to Zalem and wants her to go with him. Also the line “If I were as strong as you I would be there right now”(?) in the churchtop scene.

Hugo was okay And I think his death scenes were very well done, they hurt a bit.

The sets were great. Not just Ido's house interior, but the city too. Iron City is a terrible, crime ridden hellhole and everyone just wants out. But, aside from the crime and poverty, the city is still very livable and feels social. It feels like the struggle has formed a community. The people walking around in the street, the lack of money and internet forcing people to spend time with each other, play games, etc. Most of the buildings are built to a human scale, with nice looking balconies, and bay windows. I think it's Italianate(?), the word? The street musicians, the vendors.
There is the problem with crime, crowding, trash from Zalem, etc. But there's still a lot to appreciate.

I don't think Hugo was enough of a selfish dick in the movie.

In the Mango they make it quite clear their relationship is pretty one-sided and Hugo has is own motivations for saying on friendly terms with Alita, but really he's just looking for any opportunity he can get to either harvest her or use her to his advantage. It's only at the very end when he's hanging does he realize how much of an idiot he's been. In the movie he actually cares about Alita which makes his decision to attempt his suicide run up to Zalem a bit silly. In the mango Zalem is literally everything for this guy, in the movie he's like quitting the harvest gang because he doesn't want to upset Alita, make him seem sloppy as a character but I get that they were trying to make him more empathetic but I feel it backfired because now he's just a dumb boyfriend.

Idea: What if they kept their relationship platonic until the end? Hugo confessing before dying?

Better marketing and a popular and well-liked brand behind it. Alita is the better movie, but I never would have guessed that based off the trailers. I took a chance seeing it on opening weekend but most people wouldn't bother with a movie that looks iffy. Meanwhile people generally like the Marvel formula and they've been very consistent in terms of quality.

Somebody posted a pic of that in another general but i dont remember seeing him in the movie after grwishka does the thing in the bar.

I used to think this shot looked eerie and cringe as fuck, but for some reason now I really like it a lot

Except he's clearly conflicted after that, and doesn't participate in jacking parts ever again. Hell he is conflicted the moment he sees Scorpion's "Get over here" spears on Grewishka (I have no idea if that's how you spell it). Even the meeting with Vector was innocent on his part. He was still a pretty dumb character but he's not nearly as bad as he's made out to be.
