Spotted the russian bots.
Soviet units were indeed sent into battle with almost no ammo, though these were mostly penal battalions.
There were numerous occasions before they took the intiaitive after Kursk where the soviets deployed NKVD or guards units behind frontline regiments to catch and execute deserters and retreaters. Machine gunning them down was extreme and rare, shelling worked much better.
And the Soviet military was utterly incompetent and kept afloat only by the massive quantities of American resources in raw goods like wheat and industrial ones like jeeps and even then it took the soviets three years losing millions of dead men to fight past half destroyed german units. In the west allied forces faced tighter concentrations and more numerous experienced german divisions while suffering intense logistical deficiencies and still managed to beat the germans back in months.
