There's been a lot of excitement about Supernatural bringing back a familiar face for season 14 since a recent tease from the showrunner.

Well, Andrew Dabb has now gone one further and revealed that a "fan favourite" will grace our screens once again for the finale.

Speaking to TVLine's Michael Ausiello, the showrunner said of the finale: "A very significant fan favourite is going to come back".

He didn't go into detail about who it would be, but we imagine that fans will be delighted when the character does appear.

Last month, Dabb also revealed that there would be a big twist in store for Sam and Dean Winchester in season 14.

"I will say, true to Supernatural form, season 14 does not end on an 'everybody is super happy and hugging' note, necessarily," Dabb said. "Bad things are coming, as they always are, for the Winchesters.

"But I do think that, moving into 15... I think that people will be surprised and will be happy in terms of where we're going, not only in terms of the plotline, but also in terms of our guys and their ongoing growth as people."

He added of a familiar face returning: "In terms of going forward, in episode 20, I will say that we get visited by an old favourite."

Death said that all the books except one have been rewritten and end with Michael escaping his mind and using Dean as a vessel to burn the world down. It's plausible that the books can all be rewritten again because of alt-world shenanigans and cause problems for the reapers and other agents of fate for a S15 plot. Especially considering heaven is about to run out of power causing billions of ghosts and Hell is in anarchy.

novel or the book? Novel was a slow burn. I read the author's preferred text though, I dunno how different it is from the first edited published edition. Show is alright. The deviations from the book are hit or miss. Laura takes too much screentime. She has good moments but are overwhelmed by being drawn out. Shadow is too passive a character but this is also a fault in the book, I suppose. and here

Thanks. And I meant the show mostly. I read the book and I liked it. I know the show isn't a faithful adaptation but I became a fan of Bryan Fuller after watching Hannibal and was curious about checking it out even knowing that Gaiman clearly didn't approve of the directions the show took.

I liked how the show fleshed out the new gods more because in the novel we only ever see glimpses of them. Media's line about the panic caused by War of the Worlds was brilliant

Honestly, I thought Supernatural did pretty well with Bella's character. In any other show, she would have gotten some shitty "boo-fucking-hoo, muh childhood" redemption arc, but here they actually played it straight with the Winchesters eventually getting fed up with her bullshit and leaving her to the wolves. It was the perfect example of "you reap what you sow". All she had to do to not die was to not be a backstabbing bitch for two seconds but she wasn't and she paid for it.
