We didn't have a lot of money or time, and more than once we both said fuck this and stopped working on it for weeks at a time, but we kept at it and eventually we managed to get it into pretty good shape and sold the thing to a collector for 25k.

It might seem like a lot of work, but if it's something you have passion and love for, then it's always worth it.

Well there's you answer, really. Also cleaning+repairing+tuning a flute is much different that renovating an old car. Flutes are extremely fragile and careless non-professional work can make it end up worse than before you started. You need specific tools and a lot of practice. Instrument repair is a craft, not a trade like with cars.
