Are there any other non-ghibli animu kinos that you can watch without having to suffer through a thousands hours of a series

TETSUOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
To me the soundtrack is always what has stood out the most about Akira, the whole thing is fantastic though.
KANEDAAAA!
All movies by Kon, Shinkai and Hosoda
Your Name is beautiful as fuck
Thanks
yours too
Pretty great animation especially for the time but a messy and unfocused story
You'll find that the fellow named Tetsuo just really REALLY hates Canada
Redline
Manlet rage and disappointment
It's been probably 15 years since I've watched it. I still have no idea what was going on. What did they do to Tetsuo to make him go crazy? What was the deal with those Benjamin Button kids? What was in those jars. Who was Akira and why was he important?
The best animated film ever created.
A great film
Nice animation and music.
Fucking mess of a movie.
Exactly like the GiTS animated film.
Except that one is worse.
>watch "masterpiece" anime
>cringe multiple times
Every time
In my top five movies list. One of the best cyberpunk flick ever created.
>What did they do to Tetsuo to make him go crazy?
Put him in the same program that those Benjamin Button kids and Akira had been through
>What was the deal with those Benjamin Button kids?
They were part of a program to unlock latent psychic potential in people.
>What was in those jars?
Akira's organs, in the manga he's still alive and he and Tetsuo team up and solve mysteries.
>Who was Akira and why was he important?
Akira was the only one of the group of the children to reach a certain power level, the ending scene in the movie shows Tetsuo hitting that same level as a God like being in a universe he controls.
paprika and perfect blue
The second film (Stink Bomb) isn't too great, but the first and third have some of the best artwork after Akira (the same director was involved)
Nice quads. How do you unlock psychic abilities and why did they do that to Tetsuo? Was all this in the movie and I missed it or was it from the manga.
Castle of Cagliostro is p gud, even if you haven't watched any Lupin beforehand
An interesting setting and story about a biker gang in future tokyo that goes full End of Evangelion in the 2nd half
Most of it comes from the manga, they did what they did to Tetsuo because if you remember early on in the movie he's in the accident when they're fighting the clown gang and the military show up to evac him since they're in the area of Old Tokyo Akira had destroyed. They run tests on him and find out he has the potential for the ability like Akira had. Not sure how they unlock the potential, never really explained in the movie and been years since I've read the manga and I don't recall them explaining it in detail there either.
>What did they do to Tetsuo to make him go crazy?
They found out Tetsuo has the same resonance as Akira, and they connected him with the power (the energy of the universe)
>What was the deal with those Benjamin Button kids?
They and Akira were part of an experiment to try to control this energy for military purposes
The experiment abnd the whole thing went BTFO when Akira untapped too much energy and Tokyo got destroyed (alongside Akira). This is the first thing you see in the movie (the big explosion)
>What was in those jars.
Akira body parts who do not end up destroyed in the incident
>Who was Akira and why was he important?
Was the only one who was able to properly control a massive ammount of this energy until they find Tetsuo. But Tetsuo escapes from the lab before the procedure was complete and in the end he wasnt able to contain all the energy (bc untrained and medical procedure was interrupted due to his escape) and start mutating into a giant monster (his body cells cant contain the vast ammount of energy and the mutation starts)
as a person who barely watches anime (last thing i'd seen was kill la kill 3 years ago), i'd recommend watching Neon Genesis Evangelion and its follow-up movie, End of Evangelion. it's 26 episodes, so not that long by anime standards (each episode is 20 mins long, so about ~8 hours of watch time in total).
i watched this recently and got utterly and completely BTFO, no film has impacted me the way this series+movie have. i finished it about a week ago, can't stop thinking about it, will probably rewatch some time soon.

Posting 90s comf
it isn't in your opinion? i'm not big on anime, but this almost floored me, i'd say it's beautiful
cont'd:
i understand that you're looking for animu films, not series, and End of Evangelion is an amazing one, but to watch it you need to have seen the series first. that said, it is DEFINITELY worth the time investment, the series together with the movie is an anime masterpiece
as someone who doesnt like anime this was really good.
Visual animation kino
Lackluster story
Read the manga
>GitS
>mess of a movie
gits is 10/10 though
A weirdly disjointed story, but probably the most care ever given to animating a movie ever
No it isn't. Innacurately uses scenarios from the source material, misses the tone, and the director shoves his personal beliefs into the movie.
It's like zack snyder directed it.
Tell me why you think it is a 10/10.
And if you say anything about philosophy do go into great detail.
The manga is shit retard
whats that?
you start quoting funny voices only nerds will catch onto irl?

Patlabor: The Movie.
It works as a standalone. You don't need to see anything else of the series to know what's happening.
It has already begun.. Greatest jap kino ever. Maybe we are all just amoebas.
Movie was made during modernization of Japan and Nips still had nuclear PTSD thus scaring of "what if" technologies. It was a pretty common theme at time.
In movie, Government make some experiments with Benjamin Button kids, to control a technology that they don't understand. Akira was one of those subjects and his power grew beyond control, nearly destroyed Japan and they had to put him into jars.
Tetsuo becomes the 2nd Akira (godlike) near the end and those kids have to stop him destroying Earth. In the end they even create a pocket universe.
There're some other themes but I don't fully understand all. But the main theme is very obvious, one of the character asks the question "What if an amoeba had the power of god. Would it build a bridge or consume everything around it?" sorta Japanese's Icarus-thing.
I loved the artwork of Stink Bomb but the ending ruined it
No it isn't but thanks for outing yourself as a brainlet. Those that love that shitty movie usually are.
So predictable.
Extremely underrated
You are literally a BBC loving cuck like Masamune Shitshow
Watching this scene as a kid is where I realized I have a rape fetish.
Jin-Roh
Great retort, little brainlet.
It's ok if you still like your shitty movie if it makes you feel smart. I won't take that from you. I donate to the retards foundation for people like you. :)
>Ending ruined it
Pleb
A lost bigon era
Why are you speaking like some high iq redditor
>Innacurately uses scenarios from the source material
So?
>misses the tone
What the fuck is "the tone"?
>the director shoves his personal beliefs into the movie
Good for him?
>What the fuck is "the tone"?
He wanted it to have lolsorandom and unfunny "humor" like the manga
What ruined it for me was how the MC failed to comprehend that he was the source of the problem, which made his actions really frustrating. I understand that was perhaps "the point" of the short, but it did come across a bit gimmicky. Nothing negative to say about the artwork.
Not a bad list
>Sots
I couldn't get past the cgi style
>Your name
Kinda gay concept
>A silent voice
Haven't heard of this one, what's it about
Yep what he said
This movie is so good. Some of the humor is a bit 'cringe' but it makes up for it with awesome style, animation and characters
10/10 ending, could not even blink.
You should ake sure to watch M.D Geist though, anime kino so great it has it's own infograph
ASV is about bullying and self-acceptance. A boy bullies a deaf girl as young children. Later he must reconcile with her and himself. It's the best anime film of the 00's.
Was that Ichigo's voice actor? That guys in everything, he's good though
The crushing scene turned my stomach.
a boy bullies a deaf girl, then he eventually becomes a victim of bullying himself. it then follows him later in life. really beautiful film about bullying, redemption and communication
I think it's garbage. The manga is much, MUCH better
The manga is unironically trash and worse than the movie.
Beserk (the 90's series)
CANADA
t. didn't read it
Actually manga and movie are truly different.
i dig it
