Can we have a candid discussion about the newest addition to the Marvel cinematic universe; Captain Marvel?
What did you think? How was Brie larson's performance? ( i was presently surprised) What do you think Danvers did for 25 years in space? Does it break continuity anywhere?
Please keep shitposting to a minimum (sexless incel topics are everywhere go shitpost there)
So, she leaves in 1995 and comes back over 20 years later looking like she hasn't aged a day. There has got to be some deep space time explanation for it. Like in Ragnarok, when Loki landed on Sakar only minutes before Thor but because time is relative, it stretched into a few weeks before Thor caught up with him. I don't think Carol actually spent 20+ years aiding the Skrulls to find a new home. Endgame will probably have some brief explanation, she definitely won't think she was gone that long.
You guys haven’t even realized they made the Skrulls the good guys specifically because they wanted to piss off and alienate the comic fans
In two weeks time we’ll have an endless stream of “cry more man babies”-type headlines about it

>alienate the comic fans Why? Skrulls are baddies in the comics?

What i wanna know is, why is Mar Vell working on a FTL spaceship when everyone can clearly already travel FTL. They do it at the start of the movie. If you can instantly travel to a distance solar system you are going FTL

I'll make it very simple and clear: Captain Marvel is really worth a watch. It's just entertaining and visually impressive, exactly what it was meant to be.
Just keep this in mind that it's an origin story so don't go looking for an overstuffed complex story. It's just a fun action movie that introduces us to a new superhero Captain Marvel, played brilliantly by Brie Larson. I became an instant fan watching her in this action heroine avatar, something she manages to pull off with ease. Watch her in the action sequences and there's no way you can't be impressed. Viewers were literally cheering for some of the most heroic moments in the film. Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury is as awesome as always, it's just that his character feels even better and refined than what we've seen. Jude Law is also quite good, and so are Ben Mendelsohn and Lashana Lynch.
But the one character that ultimately steals the show is Goose, the cat. Some of the sequences involving her are so hilarious that it was really difficult to stop laughing.
Visual effects are excellent, and the IMAX 3D viewing just elevated them. And since it's most importantly an action movie, every single action sequence it delivers is impressive, especially the train sequence. I would call it one of the major highlights of the movie. Cinematography in certain portions is really impressive. Humor, like any other MCU movie, is top notch and really manages to make you laugh.
Captain Marvel has a simple-looking origin story presented and executed in a terrific manner. The directors have done a great job with the characterization of Captain Marvel, and that is what makes everything in the film seem so good. The pace is brisk, gore is minimal to no, and there's nothing unsuitable for kids

All I can figure is the jump points they are using are static (they mention that they are 20km from a jump point in GOTG2) and the Skrulls want to go outside the jump point network so the Kree can't find them.

Always. In the comic they force the Kree to earth as refugees. They kind of do a comparison thing where they’re like real life refugees that everyone is prejudice against and Carol has this attitude like she’s a girl who’s 1/87th Latina who “gets in touch with her roots/culture” and saves them from the evil white oppressors. The irony of her being their literal white savior, but it being ok because she’s just a little ethnic and not fully white being completely lost on them. That’s without thinking about the fact that she’s only strong because she has super powers she gets from being part alien, I don’t think they ever explain why the aliens can’t just defend themselves with their own super powers, but I dropped it pretty quick
It already set up a sequel. Ronan says they will come back for her, and in the leaked endgame scene description she says that other planets needed her.

The movie is the worst kind of bad, it's not the self-contained kind of bad that you can safely ignore like Dark World, it's the kind of bad that retroactively ruins things that were actually good in order to push ideas and concepts and plots that are bad. It's a fucking trashfire and releasing it before Endgame and tying it into it was a colossal mistake, the Infinity Stones arc will be forever marred by this movie's existence and whatever consequences it has on Endgame.

I liked it. More importantly, my daughter loved it, and feels really inspired by the character, which is more important to me than any cinematic criticism.
Daniel Parker
Thought it was incredibly joyful from start to finish. Beautifully made, fun performances (Brie was magical and Talos is just a treasure), and an awesome hero at the center. I'm a really easy cryer so the montage of Carol picking herself up took me over completely.

I mean, at least Larson isn't wearing a muscle suit.
Doesn't mean I support the assless version of Heath ledger in a wig but still.

Captain Marvel was really enjoyable - stoked to see where character goes next. A really endearing movie for Women's day. Definitely has empowering elements. And Brie Larson absolutely nails the roles of Carol Danvers, crushing all doubters and detractors. To all those who were complaining about how here character was not 'smiley' enough (how absurd is that anyway?), her's is a character going through an identity crisis and there's a lot of self doubt in her initially. There are impressive fight scenes (especially the last one was awesome) , epic moments and its fair share of light-heartedness. The Stan Lee tribute was really classy - he'll forever be dearly missed. Nick Fury and Carol Danvers are one iconic duo I can get get behind. Goose is a scene stealer. And the post credits - oh my god the post credits. Do yourself a favour - avoid spoilers and trolls who can't stand women sharing their opinion or misinterpret comments or generally just spread hate. This character will continue to push boundaries . Certainly worth watching. I can imagine, in due time, young girls looking up to Carol Danvers as their hero and role model and she sure will be a worthy one. All in all, a solid origin story with some strong moments. Side note : Talos and happy go lucky Nick 'even momma calls him' Fury were a treat. #captainmarvel #brielarson #marvel

Fantastic movie, Brie Larson was awesome as Captain Marvel, she really pulled off being a bad-ass. I loved how she was accidentally knocking herself all over a huge room because she didn't understand how strong she really is.
Talos was great, loved the Skrull storyline.
I think when Carol and Fury first meet, she calls him Fury at one point, but he hadn't actually told her his name. I could be wrong.
The 90s technology jokes got the biggest laughs, especially the CD-rom loading and the Skrull Science Guy rolling his eyes at how slow it's going.
Stan Lee tribute and cameo were perfect
Holy shit the mid credits scene, Endgame cant come fast enough
Levi Rogers
I think she's a shit actress, and is a cunt irl.
but the film was pretty good. for some reason I couldn't help put the bullshit political signalling and SJW shit aside bc it was actually pretty entertaining and all round cool.
didn't pay to see it though, watched decent cam version. will never support a movie she's in.

can i ask you something just out of curiosity, as someone who doesn't really care about the profits, why do you you care? i just want good movies to come out, i'm sick of bad movies. that's it. it doesn't mean anything to me how or why movies are made, i'm just bored and i want to be entertained, and it's annoying to me that every single movie is so low effort and shitty but looks good because they can afford expensive equipment, but i can't even be bothered to go see it in a theater because they are so boring that if i take a friend they'll fall asleep and be pissed off at me and i wont blame them lol. thats happened to me with almost every movie ive taken another person to since 2007 when i personally fell asleep to dark knight rises which i HAD been hype for because i saw batman begins twice in theaters when i was 19 and everyone thought it was the best movie ever. but we definitely never talked about or gave one fuck ever about how much money the movies we saw made. i can't recall ever in my life having one single conversation about a movies profits, or overhearing around me such a conversation. so what the fuck is wrong with you?
Christian Jackson
how could your daughter be inspired by that? in what way? by which scene? maybe your daughter is retarded and you are a bad dad.

This was amazing. Really heavily built up the universe. I like that the dude who was in the beginning of Guardians of the Galaxy was just a casual member of the team in this. Picking up The Right Stuff in the Blockbuster was a cool nod. Loved the Stan Lee intro and Cameo. Loved the action, was well thought out and the story was really intriguing.
This movie so easily could have been another Dark World solely existing to just set up her appearance in Endgame, but it honestly is just freakin great. I watched Chris Stuckmann's review this morning, well half of it, and it has me wondering if the dude was setting out to not like it or if it was classic sexism on his part that the whole first half of the review was railing on the movie as boring. This movie was the opposite of boring. Definitely not deserving of such a low Metacritic score, 65% is an embarrassment.
That fucking fist crack that did a giant energy burst that made the Accuser turn tail? How can you watch that and not be like fuck yeah?
Marvel lately has been showing the important end credit teaser halfway through the credits and using a cutesy one at the end end and I'm fine with that. The end credit sequence has me hyped for Endgame when I was feeling a little burned out, this definitely reignited the flame.
If this movie had a theme song it would be Tubthumping by Chumbawumba.
The CGI on Fury and Coulson was amazingly done. This is the movie that finally proves it is complete and exemplary of the ability difference between 2016 and now.
9/10

OK, so went to see movie last night and all the negative clickbaiting is not really true again, from all the critics. The movie was good. And actually Brie Larson acted and acted nice, she is damn good in it. There was some very small PC push but it did not distract and kinda fit into her character - yes she did have feelings and all the comment about her being emotionless in trailers is reason for it in the story. Now the movie is not 10 and is not 1. So if you remove those from the imdb ratings, you have 7 and 8 on equal and I tend to agree with it. I personally voted 8, as I did not expect Brie to act so good given the fact what movies she stars in. And also I liked the story, the 90's throwbackss, the small jokes and Stan's cameo etc. So I do recommend the movie. I even forgive the movie slowness in second act. Now, that Brie went full batshit crazy on social media and sabotage her movie is another topic. Which is a shame. P.S. I am a white man, nerd, movie/tv series/ superheroes fan etc.
Marvel's first female lead movie and there isn't a single iconic scene ...
Even WW had some scenes...

Wait hold up how old is this bitch? Core Radiation prolly made her ageless, but how old is she in human years? She was prolly in her 30s during the 90s, so she was born in the 60s? Nigga this bitch is as old as my mom. Boomer Captain Marvel, absolutely based
>can we have a candid discussion Sure. The movie is trash. Nick Fury reduced to a buffoon, and white men are eeeeevil!
Kayden Lee
>Nick Fury reduced to a buffoon Comedic relief and cat scratch aside, Fury was unironically the smartest guy in the whole fim. Any scene where he's tricking people is kino, he's just using his wits.
Fun fact about Captain Marvel: As this movie takes place almost 25 years ago, Samuel L Jackson looks quite a bit different now than he did at that time. To avoid making it look like he didn't age, Jackson didn't actually film new scenes for Captain Marvel. Instead, all of his shots were comprised of archival footage from movies he was in in the 90s.
For example, there's a scene where Fury is interrogating a man he knows, but who he fears has been replaced by a shapeshifting Skrull. To verify his identity, Fury asks him a series of questions that a Skrull wouldn't know the answers to, such as his home country, his native language, and whether or not Marcellus Wallace looks like a bitch.

>How was Brie larson's performance? ( i was presently surprised)
She wasn't convincing as an ace pilot, a brainwashed soldier or a rogue soldier. I thought the movie was ok (marvel movies are mostly crap), but she didn't do anything for me. Miscast
Joshua Sanchez

>side characters have more charisma and are more interesting than the boring main character
I liked the more comedic route they took with Fury, but I can't forgive this movie for fucking up the backstory for how he lost his eye. This is TLJ levels of retarded subversion. >Oh, you thought there was a poignant and dramatic reason for something that we foreshadowed to be poignant and dramatic? >Suprise! The reason behind it is actually the punch line of an unfunny joke that makes the character look incompetent >Serves you right for being invested in something we hinted was important to the character in previous movies Would it really have been that hard to just make a fellow agent who Fury had trusted for years a Skrull spy, and have them shoot his eye out? Something like that would have rightfully justified the paranoia and distrust expressed in his line in Winter Soldier.
Wow, there are some extremely butthurt guys in the comments.
I went into the movie with middling expectations. Based on the trailers I was expecting Brie to be a bad fit for the role, and the plot to be a standard marvel origin movie flair.
Instead, I thought Brie absolutely crushed it.
The action was great.
The plot went in a pleasantly unexpected direction (even though in hindsight the twist should have been obvious).
They nailed the humor. The scene with the computer loading screen had my whole theater dying, and Ghost’s big moment got huge laughs too.
Most of all, it got me stoked to see more of Captain Marvel and more the cosmic Marvel Universe.
Probably the best Marvel origin movie behind Iron Man and GotG.

Some people think it is smart to shill things they don't care about...
... because they think not caring about anything makes them superior to everyone else.
I loved it, thought it was fun in a cool, 90s action movie kind of way. It was cheesy and weird as shit, but I really dug that about it. Some of the humor didn’t land and some parts were just odd (the people on the subway did not act realistically to the incredibly strange fight unfolding before them, took me out of the movie) but ultimately I was on board with the central mystery. This doesn’t hit Avengers Infinity War or Guardians level but it’s pretty damn good as far as marvel movies go.
Brie Larson is so bad ass and charming. As a child free person, the sequence where she was standing up throughout her different ages made me want an empowered daughter who don’t take shit from anyone. I can’t imagine how powerful that sequence will be for girls watching this for the first time.
I do want to watch it again with the mindset my wife had. After the movie, she told me that she was super confused for half of it because she was sure she had heard that this was the story of how captain America’s girlfriend (Sharon Carter) got powers and became a super hero. I was laughing the whole way home.
Logan Morgan
In the comics, they're shape-shifting invaders who kidnap and take the place of the world's most influential individuals/leaders to topple earth from within and convince people to welcome their new overlords with open arms.
It's pretty obvious why a plotline like that wouldn't fly in our 'current year' cultural climate.

The story and script are one of the best in the MCU. Also CGI was slightly better than in IW. Action was good too.
Brie Larson's performance is underrated. Her acting is suprisingly much more subtle than i thought.
She helped the green space niggers finding a home.
Not at all.

The Stan Lee tribute at the beginning was very classy. Lots of cheers for that in my theatre.

the movie looks cheap. it looks like the pilot of a tv show. the visuals are generic as generic can be.
i was waiting for more 90s pandering and songs. there was what? three? im only happy when it rains, come as you are and just a girl, that was used at the most dumb moment possible.
nick fury was pathetic, black lady whatever, ben mendelson being the best thing for knowing that he was just doing a capeshit and having fun.
the really mess is retcon the origin of the AVENGERS INITIATIVE and how fury lose his eye.
these two things fuck the whole movie even if it was a good decent one and not some mediocre shitty flick with a terrible protagonist with zero charisma.
This might be because I was watching this movie from the perspective of a bi woman, but...
did anyone else get sort of lesbian vibes from Carol and Rambo? They seemed super into each other for best friends. I'm not sure that the writers intended it but something in the acting of the two women made me wonder if there was anything else there.
Joseph Walker
No comment on the quality of the movie, I just have to mention I heard the child behind me in the cinema ask his dad what blockbuster is
Henry Bell
I can't believe someone looked at this frame and thought it was good enough to be used repeatedly in the promotional material and several times in the movie
Especially considering someone was smart enough to Photoshop her beyond recognition in the main theatrical poster, in which she actually looks good
