Was anyone else surprised by how violent Alita was?

I haven’t read the source material and granted ‘Battle Angel’ is in the title but I honestly expected the movie to be some harmless little PG13 flick with minimal action that you could take 8 year olds to. But there’s actually some pretty hardcore shit in it like:

>Alita beats the first cyborg to death with her bare hands
>Curbstomps the next one into a wall
>Largest cyborg kills a small dog
>Alita rips his eye out
>Zapan cuts Hugo’s friend in half
>Multiple people are decapitated
>Multiple people are stabbed through the chest
>Bounty hunters are crushed, cut to pieces or sucked into machines
>Chiren is dissected until only her brain, eyes and hands are left
>Largest cyborg is cut in half in slow motion by Alita

Not really. I thought it was going to be more violent and slightly darker. It also had less action scenes than I thought there'd be, and more emphasis on story.

I thought it was a solid science fiction film way better than marvel shit.

>Largest cyborg kills a small dog
This one genuinely surprised me. I didn't think for a second they would actually kill it.

The manga is just like this. Alita maims people with no inhibitions.

I thought Alita was supposed to be cute and innocent, why she murdering so much?

not at all, I've read the manga twice before so I thought it was rather tame actually.

She's cute and badass.

this.

>Zapan cuts Hugo’s friend in half
this surprised me the most, especially how bloody it was

That dog didn't die tho

I was genuinely surprised how bad it was and how Yea Forums tricked me into watching it.

The manga ran in a seinen magazine so it didn't have to hold back with the violence. Cyborg blood is usually red in it too.

>Eep!

I missed so i'm gonna use this thread

shonen can be just as violent too. look no farther than JJBA. it's more of a tonal thing idjit.

Jojo runs in Ultra Jump now.

Nothing nearly as bad in JJBA as that whole bit with the photographer who secretly mutilated and tortured women in Battle Angel. I don't have the pages but I seem to remember dismembered nude bodies.

Is this after credits or something...?

because araki wanted to tell a different kind of story. that just proves my point that even the same series can be a different genre regardless of violent.
I remember him. I mean Dio had dead naked bitches so I don't know.

I felt this same thing after the first MIB movie. They straight up gib ayylmaos in that movie but it's totally Family Friendly because the bodies being destroyed aren't mammalian.

>it's not gore if it's robots

The mangas loaded with plenty of genuine human guts. One guy gets charged through and exploded into gib confetti in motorball. Another character paints a tunnel with a dudes entrails.

that's cool and all but what does that have to do with the movie you fucking nerd

The manga could be described as cyberpunk body horror in many parts.

Kind of interesting to see normie reactions to the movie. I went in having read the manga and watched the OVA, so in my eyes it was very cleaned-up and kid-friendlified. Because the source material is nonstop gore and mutilation pretty much.
