Just finished watching this at my local kinoplex with my wife. I had read the reviews, and heard what Brie Larson said with her anti-male/white rants. Honestly, all that hype built up for the movie about empowered women was for nothing. There was of course those elements in there, and the theme was "slay queen" for sure. Yet the movie unintentionally exposes women's flaws lol. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it is still bad. Brie Larson is bland as hell, poor thing, but that might just be who she is. Samuel L. Jackson and Jude Law compensated for Larson's lack of charisma. For a MCU first superhero movie, I would probably say this one is the worst. I'll agree with the critics that it's original, but I'll also agree with the audience because it's dull and lacking.
This movie would probably be considered better than it is seen as right now simply because of Brie Larsons political comments.
Why did she have to be making all these political comments? Why couldn't she just be friendly, be happy, and do what the other actors do which is be a super star at the comic-con, kick some ass as a superhero, and enjoy her million dollar check?
It's one thing if she mentions the importance of feminism and womens rights once or twice. But instead of this, she decided to talk about how evil men are and how white males are bad, and how the patriarchy is so evil.
All she had to do was enjoy acting in a fun movie. Which is basically what every other actor does. Chris Evans gets uppity with his political commentary sometimes, talking about how he doesn't like Trump, but he doesn't make inflammatory comments about how men are evil, or how the fans are manbabies.
Why couldn't she just enjoy herself? Why does she think she has to be an internet warrior? Who the fuck are these people?
Jaxon Richardson
She literally behaves identically to normal male action movie star.
Confident. Cracks jokes. One liners. Stubborn.
There wasn't a single SJW quote in the entire movie.
Jayden Nelson
Women aren’t men. Sorry to destroy your worldview with 200k years of evolutionary fact.

>Yet the movie unintentionally exposes women's flaws lol.
Not women's flaws but more like female privilege or affirmative action. Brie's Carol was talentless, clumsy and incompetent. The movie doesn't show her over coming her failures, it just shows her being successful even though she is constantly failing. She really didn't grow. She sucks at everything until she gets a dues ex machina super power. Why didn't it show her becoming a better driver? A better pilot? Over coming the obstacle course with no issues? She doesn't she just fails over and over and says "they boo me because I'm a women" not "holy shit I suck, maybe I should get better."
She doesn't come off as a former Major with high accolades and a crack shot pilot. She has no air of military background about her. She acts like Star Lord. Goofy and quippy and funny, and granted it's funny at times, but it also makes her look completely like an air head more times than not.
No she doesn't. She has a chip on her shoulder about "all the men who did her wrong and made fun of her and thought she wasn't strong am I right sisters #relatable #womensday #girlpower" throughout the film. I love female heroes that do the same things that male heroes do. They come across as fun and badass and cool. Captain Marvel is nothing like that, she's the total opposite, her biggest enemy in the film is not the villains but all the males who just didn't think she was awesome. It's a very pathetic, navel-gazing and feminine type of "HERo" that she is.

This flick was an ok. Not bad and far from great. The Skrulls being the Mexicans and the Kree being well every western white male basically was obvious. But aside from that, it was a decent filler to hold us over to Endgame. My theater was only responsive to Goose and Sam Jackson which were the highlights. I get why the critics overinflated this movie into something it wasnt. Controversy will put asses in the seats. I give it a 6/10 just a meh
Michael Clark
She acts the way Male leads START She just never got better Iron man, star lord, thor, dr strange, by the end of their movies they've overcome their shitty side This movie said "the thing that makes her shitty is what saves the day"
John Morgan
Well put. Good critique.

She didn't make the "white male critic" comments on the Captain Marvel press tour, she did it like a year ago while accepting some feminist award for a movie she directed. She explicitly made those comments because she was salty that the movie she directed got critically panned, and she used the shield of identity politics and Disney (A Wrinkle in Time) instead of explicitly coming out and saying she was mad that her movie flopped. All in all Disney should have just gotten a hotter, younger actress who isn't involved in political activism, it would have been much smarter not just for this film but for the future of the franchise. Sure Brie won an Oscar but that's completely irrelevant when it comes to capeshit acting.

Just watched it.
Was the pacing off? It felt like filler and the jokes didn't really land.
Dominic Rogers
Not going to see the movie, but isn't she some sort of autistic alien?

This
It just felt like a massive filler. I'm loving how the access media is building this movie up as breaking the glass ceiling. Just call a spade a spade already. This is what, frustrated people. Well, that and their obvious bias.
Henry Harris
>"I'm just a girl" plays during her finale action scene. I was actually more or less enjoying the movie before that point. way too sjw on the nose "girl power" for me
Samuel Wilson
So much this. That speech was capstone to this entire controversy. Instead of calling her out on this shit they applaud for it.
Jacob Sullivan
The movie has this whole "girl power" angle because the character is too boring to market based on her own merits. Wonder Woman didn't have that because she's a classic character that can sell herself.
Juan Bailey
The thing that is so frustrating to me about all of this is the shallowness of it all. They think they need to put a "girl power" sticker on this movie and say that if you don't like it you're a sexist.
They don't need to do that at all. They can make a good movie, and they didn't have to force anything. We already fucking know that women can be amazing movie stars and characters. Telling us that we're sexist if we don't like a movie is offensive.
David Baker
Even my kids thought that "I'm Just A Girl". Song during her fight scene was out of place. They don't have to make it so obvious. We get it. But without a doubt Captain Marvel is right up there with Rey as a Mary Sue. It was like she turned on a switch and instantly knew how to work her powers. Hell, she beat an invasion force without even messing up her hair or makeup.
Owen Walker
Lots of people loved Antman, and audiences received it well. All the Marvel movies have a good chance at success already because of the pre-established history of success. People are going to go see it anyway. If you make it a damn good movie, word of mouth will get more people watching it, like what happened with Antman.
So, what if I liked the movie. I did I genuinely liked it. I just didn't like Brie's portrayal of Carol Danvers. For various reasons I've already outlined in this thread. Am I sexist for it?
Dylan Jackson
I just saw it too, was ok but nothing special. They are trying to play her up as this big female icon, which is a mistake, because superheroes are supposed to be admired by everyone. I really dont like the direction these movies are being taken trying to make these heroes into as niche a market as they can. Like you aren't allowed to like black panther unless you're black, or you can admire superman unless you're white and Male etc. The identity politics need to go period, aside from that it was entertaining.
I'd watch it on TV instead of theaters, she only uses her cool powers for a little bit so a big screen isnt needed.
Thomas Powell
Why wasnt she played by a black woman?
Robert Murphy
Yep, Ant-Man was definitely a movie that could've done poorly, but it didn't because it was fun and people told their friends to go check it out. Everyone said that it was a risky movie to make, and it worked anyway.
Captain Marvel could have done this too, and it's not sexism to say it sucks.
Julian Butler
I'll make it very simple and clear: Captain Marvel is really worth a watch. It's just entertaining and visually impressive, exactly what it was meant to be.
Just keep this in mind that it's an origin story so don't go looking for an overstuffed complex story. It's just a fun action movie that introduces us to a new superhero Captain Marvel, played brilliantly by Brie Larson. I became an instant fan watching her in this action heroine avatar, something she manages to pull off with ease. Watch her in the action sequences and there's no way you can't be impressed. Viewers were literally cheering for some of the most heroic moments in the film. Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury is as awesome as always, it's just that his character feels even better and refined than what we've seen. Jude Law is also quite good, and so are Ben Mendelsohn and Lashana Lynch.
But the one character that ultimately steals the show is Goose, the cat. Some of the sequences involving her are so hilarious that it was really difficult to stop laughing.
Visual effects are excellent, and the IMAX 3D viewing just elevated them. And since it's most importantly an action movie, every single action sequence it delivers is impressive, especially the train sequence. I would call it one of the major highlights of the movie. Cinematography in certain portions is really impressive. Humor, like any other MCU movie, is top notch and really manages to make you laugh.
Captain Marvel has a simple-looking origin story presented and executed in a terrific manner. The directors have done a great job with the characterization of Captain Marvel, and that is what makes everything in the film seem so good. The pace is brisk, gore is minimal to no, and there's nothing unsuitable for kids.

This.

>one of the first jokes is her calling the nigger alien ugly wew
