most alcoholics are fully functional and you don’t even know they’re drunk/have booze in their system.

a lot of us aren’t even drunk during the day, we just secretly drink throughout to take the edge of. it is very difficult to work all day with brutal alcohol withdrawals.

I have kicked it a few times myself and gone back to just a couple beers to no beers a night, but I always come back.

it takes years of practice to be a good drunk. you learn your limitations and when and when not you can drink. it's a social lubricant and helps manage anxiety and stress and excessive ruminaton. it's a slip slope into abusing it and thinking you need it all the time obviously. certain people with certain temperments and personalities shouldn't drink at all. there's a real void of education in the world on how to drink responsibly and healthily since it's been such a huge part of humanity and has grown with society since the beginning.

Some are smarter then others. I knew one that would sneak vodka in water bottles to work and some how I never noticed till he went to rehab. He was always chill.

There was a great interview with Anthony Hopkins (on masterpiece theater i think?) about this topic where he basically said booze is magical and made his career take off. Can't find it anymore though.
