they have a few cool episodes tho.

apparently they were meant to be based on gang culture in america, like the crips. which i thought was a little weird. i actually liked the episodes where they started to get into their culture, their origin story and stuff.

they were a slave caste that overtook their masters. So they have technology they can use but hardly understand.

it's a little sad they were tossed out before we got any deeper into their culture and their history. the episode where all the different sects sit down with janeway was kinda comfy.

I don't remember a single Kazon episode that I enjoyed.

>RICK BERMAN: It was devastating. We all knew that Gene was ill, but not critically ill. He died very unexpectedly. Oddly enough, he was at a doctor’s appointment with his wife. He finished the appointment and got back into the elevator and just collapsed and died. I got a call from Majel and I went down to the set and I pulled Patrick aside. Patrick was not only the captain, whose character was the captain, but he also was sort of the unofficial leader of the cast and they all looked up to him and respected him. I told Patrick and then we sort of gathered the cast and crew around and everybody was pretty shocked. Gene got in his golf cart virtually every day and went down to the set to visit. Everybody was extremely fond of him. He was the father of this whole thing. It was very upsetting to everybody.

I liked that it had Silik in it from ENTERPRISE playing the Skalar (??) Ambassador and I know he played some stuff in DS9 too.

If Discovery was usually as good as it was yesterday, during the Mudd episodes and the Mirror Universe arc, it'd unironically be god tier.

Not arguing, would like to hear examples. Does Scotty know more about Warp Drive than Spock?

>(not a shill btw)

Should I watch TOS first? I haven't even tried but from clips I've seen it doesn't look like it aged well

I'd try watching a few more episodes. I also thought the opening was a bit off-putting but once you get to know more about the crew it grows on you after spending more episodes with them

Quark is the best

I honestly couldn't care less what you do.

Spock probably understands warp theory better than Scotty.
Scotty has more "hands on" experience with the actual hardware.
If they didn't have each other, the Enterprise would have been fucked.

not him but as a ds9 fanboy I can safely say season 7 is my least favorite. Maybe tied with one actually. Lots of bad episodes in both

Yes, but Spock would get him to push the ship past it's limits anyway to get shit done. There was a funny moment where Spock was "joking" with Scott about him mutinying I'm trying to find that example

But here's another

Hm, maybe I've just forgotten about the bad episodes. When I watch DS9 (or TNG) now I usually skip around to episodes I like. I really enjoy the culmination of the Dominion war and I seems to remember there being a few Garak episodes in S7, which are always fun.

No, I use zsh.

Sometimes, I reply to myself.

There was a reason why ENT was cancelled.
ENT is trash. DS9 was the last good Trek series, with VOY being very hit or miss, largely on Janeway being a completely inconsistant character.

It's absolutely fucking hilarious because of that, which is what makes it a god tier episode to me, but it's probably the only one I'd easily put in the "holy shit what's going on with this show" tier.

There's coffee in that starcluster.

Although theres alot of infighting among /trek/ (between voy, ent, and ds9 mostly) I think we can all agree on one thing.

can you explain what was good about generations, into darkness, insurrection, and std? Kinda want to hear this

Hello Frens, some reminders:
>STD is not legally Star Trek. It's produced on Bad Robot's licence from CBS which requires all components to be 25% different from the canon universe. When they say STD is 'prime' they don't mean canon with the old series, they mean 'a variation of the old series where canon violations occur and everything looks different.'
>The Cage was shown at the start of last episode as a red herring, and required a separate licence to be acquired from CBS.
>Season 3 is NOT real - it is a move to satisfy investors. There is NO real STD S3, instead a series of short episodes (20 minutes long) will be produced with a halved budget.
>Picard show is in serious danger with Patrick Stewart health scares and a contingency plan has been formed if he can only complete the pilot two episodes and can't continue beyond that for the six episode run

>mfw you're still pretending Discovery hasn't been course corrected into a legitimately good show
>mfw you still have to pretend you love Seth MacFarlane

it says star trek in the intro.

I'll make it very simple and clear: Disovery is really worth a watch. It's just entertaining and visually impressive, exactly what it was meant to be.

Just keep this in mind that it's an origin story so don't go looking for an overstuffed complex story. It's just a fun action movie that introduces us to a new crew, played brilliantly . I became an instant fan watching her in this action heroine avatar, something she manages to pull off with ease. Watch her in the action sequences and there's no way you can't be impressed. Viewers were literally cheering for some of the most heroic moments in the film. Anson Mount as Captain Pick is as awesome as always, it's just that his character feels even better and refined than what we've seen.

Visual effects are excellent, and the CGI viewing just elevated them. And since it's most importantly an action show, every single action sequence it delivers is impressive, especially the train sequence. I would call it one of the major highlights of the TV show episodes. Cinematography in certain portions is really impressive. Humor, like any other Star Trek Seires, is top notch and really manages to make you laugh.

Attached: buzzlightyearbeta.jpg (1080x1080, 115K)

Based
also I hate to admit this but
I kind of hope Stewart dies or becomes gravely ill before Kurtzman has a chance to horribly ruin Picard more then the TNG movies did

Sure thing fren.
Generations, into darkness, and insurrection made the other movies better by existing. You gotta have a little dark with the light and all that. But seriously, Generations was an okay way to tie the original series to TNG. Into Darkness was lame but sorta fun. Insurrection was... um... so bad it's good?
STD is rough now but seems to be improving. I'm willing to give it time to improve. This seasons is better than the first.

So did the JJ films, but they aren't canon now are they?

>this 3rd rate shilling

>Into Darkness was lame but sorta fun
not very based
>This seasons is better than the first.
thats like saying colon cancer is better then pancreatic cancer

Generations is by far the best TNG cast Trek movie. Solid premise, solid execution, a true a character story and while about a mission of mercy, it's Earth In Peril Event #2397. The lighting of the E-D is fantastic, only real downside to it is the weird cost cutting use of recycled footage for some things.

Into Darkness is a good action adventure movie in the reboot movie style, and it's better than the inconsistant mess the 09 movie was due to it being made during the writers union strike which meant it had to shoot using an unpolished draft script. Some bits don't land, but it's fun.

Insurrection's an inoffensive movie that feels, basically, like a scaled up TNG two-parter. That's not a negative.

STD is a work in progress, but I like it a lot. The first season had problems, but most Trek shows do - TNG's first season was not good, DS9's first season was even worse (it had a lame pilot and a whole one truly memorable first season episode) and STD's was still better than both. In the second season they listened to the complaints and have wiped out all the problems the first season had. It's just plain good now. It's handled being a prequel a million times better than Enterprise did, it's returning classic characters are shockingly good despite the potential there was to mess them up.

Just came in the mail guys.

>In the second season they listened to the complaints and have wiped out all the problems the first season had
except micheal still exists and the klingons still look retarded

He's right. Aside from the early over-focus on Michael, show has been pretty based. S2 is much better.

So is STD

The showrunners / writers have said it's in the same timeline as TOS.

>S2 is much better
No, its not. If it was then CBS all access wouldn't be crashing and burning so hard

Neither of them are canon, don't kind yourself.

When does ENT get bad

S2 is still Monster of The Week but its still comfy so far

The Klingons look fine, they got rid of the awful prosthetics that made them barely able to talk, and the whinings of racists aren't complaints worth listening to

>ENT can be skipped

The mark of the true pleb

They've only ever called it 'Prime timeline' they've been very careful about this. Because Prime timeline refers solely to their 25% different universe.

Conspiracy is utter mediocrity that people only remember because of the gory death of that one alien. They dumped it's plot and pretended it never happened.

It doesn't. Each season is better than the previous except for 4 but even that one is good in certain ways that 3 wasn't.

It's crashing because there's literally nothing else. They could put Stranger Things and Hill House on it and it would still bomb because no one is signing up to a streaming service for just a couple shows.

Why is everyone saying 4 is bad? It had the best multi-arc stories, and is only let down by Bounty and fucking These Are the Voyages.

CBS Is Crashing And Burning Says Increasingly Nervous Man As Discovery Is Renewed Yet Again

But they've directly said that it's canon to TOS.

>The Klingons look fine
lmao nice try cbs

Okay T'Pol as a hand to hand commando is jumping the shark a bit

Season 4 is when they go full desperate nostalgia bait because they knew they were getting cancelled

Probably the most baffling thing about it is it when on a mid season hiatus on flat out the worst episode of the season, which lost them audience and sealed it's fate even harder

Make it exclusively about ENT

How could they have all been so wrong?

They aren't. Doomcock clarified that their information was correct that STD is in big trouble, and the S3 renewal is just to save face. It's not a real 'season' but a series of cheap shorts instead, that will run half the length of normal episodes and use existing sets.

Well I have no reason to doubt that. His 'insiders' have consistently delivered completely correct intelligence after all. I'm certain he'll be right this time!

Can you prove he's wrong?

Just finished catching up. STD has always been bad but this was worse than usual, I burst out laughing when Saru said "we have to let this play out." Definitely the Starfleet way. I also wish they should shut the fuck up about s31 already.

Orville was good this week. I personally feel this season has been a bit slower than the first, but the last 3 episodes have been pure kino.

Based and Orshill pilled

I guess not, since the lengths of the episodes of Season 3 are yet to be announced.

That's not how things work though. The burden of proof is on him, as he's the one making the claim. As he's been proven wrong consistently thus far, I find this new claim (which reeks of him shifting the goalposts) difficult to believe. It's not like Doomcuck was right about S3 being cancelled until S3 was anounced. He was always wrong.

>Orville was

Always helpful when you include a note that says "don't bother responding to my bad opinion"

lol remember when Netflix not getting the Short Treks was proof they'd withdrawn funding from the show because they were unhappy with it's performance and that CBS were only making a second season to save face for All Access

Then Netflix didn't withdraw funding, and also put the Short Treks up.

Good times.

>put the Short Treks up.

After CBS cut the price 60%

>After CBS cut the price 60%
source?

Midnight's Edge reported this

>reddit: the post

>I burst out laughing when Saru said "we have to let this play out."

Just finished watching the episode as laughed and rolled my eyes at this as well. The writing on this show is so fucking bad and awkward.

> I also wish they should shut the fuck up about s31 already.

Literally the worst shit ever, they've canonised fucking CONTROL from memory beta as well, cementing that the Federation is a experiment run by an evil AI. If S31 didn't piss all over Gene's grave this sure as fuck has.
Of course over at /r/StarTrek they're literally saying that this is arguably the best Star Trek episode ever and that whoever the fuck this Spock is, is equal to Nimoy.
Not even kidding. Also so much fucking circlejerking over "THEY SHOWED THE CAGE AND I KNEW WHAT THAT WAS SO I CLAPPED"

voyage home is pretty rad

crazy time travel plot

and most importantly timeless dank memes like double dumbass on you
we'll never get another trek like it

>short treks released 10/1/2018
>didn't hit netflix till almost February 2019
Can't blame netfliix for sweating them a bit, they were asking a ridiculous amount originally.
Hulu is still waiting for the price to come down more apparently.
Tbqh the short treks were shit anyways

And what was their source? (I'm at work and can't really sit down and watch a 20 minute plus video.)

It was anti-Roddenberry in DS9 but at least they were subtle about it. They didnt go around referring to s31 like they were common knowledge like the FBI or something.

>And what was their source?

Their autism.

eww is that from std? What terrible visual design

Attached: just witchman.jpg (185x272, 8K)

Smaller than I expected but looks and feels well-made.

Attached: 20190309_145300.jpg (5312x2988, 3.72M)

They were put on Netflix like a week after they all finished airing. I think a more likely explanation than them 'sweating' CBS was that they were waiting for them to finish airing.

I did like Peck as Spock but we need to see more

>I burst out laughing when Saru said "we have to let this play out."
While it wasn't with laughter I also "burst out" into contempt and disdain... But then I was pleasantly surprised when they actually addressed it and provided compelling reasons why it happened and even went as far as having Pike lowkey scold Saru over it. That moment is quite literally the only real glimmer of hope I've had for STD in awhile.

>Of course over at /r/StarTrek
Just don't goto reddit, man. Ypu'll live a better, happier life.

>Tbqh the short treks were shit anyways
Calypso was actually kind of decent. Funny how it was the one to not have anything at all to do with the show other than using some of the sets.

Well, fuck you then, user. Fuck you with a self-sealing stembolt.

We only have a few actual facts on hand:
>STD s2 looks like fucking shit compared to s1
>the copyright case against CBS has been given the go ahead by a preliminary judge for having merit
>CBS still has fuckall else on their streaming service

What does that tell you about STD's future?

nice

was that the one with the nigger falling in love with the ship?

Felt pretty much exactly like a Dr Who episode.

Peck is a pretty decent actor, but I don't think he really makes a good spock. He can sound like him well enough but he just doesn't look or "act" like Spock.

That's what she said.

Yeah.

I never got into DrWho so I don't know how to take your comment.

It was pretty meh. Felt more like a mid-tier Moffat who episode. Better then most of std tho. Weird how much it improves as soon as Micheal and the fags are gone.

In one episode he literally acted more like Spock than Quinto did in three movies. I could imagine everything he said and did thing episode coming from Nimoy.

Among other things Discovery has nailed the portrayal of Vulcans as emotionally repressed instead of emotionless dipshits like every non Spock/Sarek Vulcan you see from TNG to Enterprise were

>Among other things Discovery has nailed the portrayal of Vulcans as emotionally repressed instead of emotionless dipshits like every non Spock/Sarek Vulcan you see from TNG to Enterprise were
this is what shilling looks like. Unironically kill yourself please

This is how I feel also. But we need to keep in mind that hes based on The Cage Spock who is a bit different than Kirk's Spock, and also that hes hamstrung by having to be at least 25% different to actual Spock for legal reasons.

Only because they couldn’t manage the Borg being insectoid on the budget they had.

It seemed more in line with Saru's character to do it though.
He went from being incredibly cautious due his ability to sense danger empathically and fear to losing his abilities and having his fear response suppressed, it makes sense for him to act more recklessly and to be more confrontational.
He knows the personal histories of both crew members and he still has enough authority among the crew to enforce his opinion as well as likely the impression that he can stop the confrontation if it escalates.
And he does get scolded for it.

The moment felt appropriate and like it emerged from the different people involved in it, rather than being Burnham or plot oriented. The show does feel like it gets better when Burnham is isolated to an A or B plot and a different cast of characters has to play off of one another.

Been away for a few days. Wtf happened to the Discord?

>In one episode he literally acted more like Spock than Quinto did in three movies.
Amazingly, Quinto is not my benchmark for "Spock." I have no idea why this keeps getting brought up. Just about everyone can agree that Quinto is a shitty Spock, can't we just move on from it then?
>Among other things Discovery has nailed the portrayal of Vulcans
Two words: Logic Extremists

Portrayal of Vulcans was so absolutely fucked in that era that had to make an Enterprise story arc to 'fix' them you complete oaf.

VF killed it after a feud with Bash. Hot shit.

He is a Starfleet officer, the fact that he has gone through alien puberty doesn't make the scene better. It's also a huge action movie cliche which doesn't fit Star Trek at all.

Nice. Is there a new one?

Yeah, Bash made one and linked it here but I didn't save it.
because I didn't want to.

Hmm, I can see the link at 4plebs but it's expired.

Last time I checked they still haven't killed off michael sue. As long as she's in there it's gonna be a shitshow.

make new thred

Seasons 1-3 are strong except for a dip in s2, and then it goes to shit when they introduce Seven even though she is one of the best characters in trek.

theres like 20 posts left but ill get one ready I guess

okay

holy shit I actually forgot about 7 of 9 completely. Oh and the borg children....maybe ill just skip those episodes

What would you do if you had a holodeck?

lel what an absolute madlad

>It's also a huge action movie cliche which doesn't fit Star Trek at all.
fair enough

Oh yeah i forgot about the copyright case
whats the status?

TOS>TNG>DS9=VOY>ENT>DISCO

Borg children are the best Star Trek Children episodes entirely. I think they're legitimately good. If you like the strength of the early season VOY, which really does start great, although last time I said that here I got jumped, you'll like those episodes too.

I got real DS9 vibes from this weeks Orville. Some bald nerd on youtube surprised me by saying the same thing. Call me a total tard if you want but damn it I want more.

I just said. It advances to a real court now, and will probably be settled.

So things progressively just get worse?

>I got real DS9 vibes from this weeks Orville.
Same. Another good character episode with a traitor storyline not too far off from an eddington vibe

Comfy /trek/ threads are impossible due to STD infection.

They are really going for 3rd season of STD. I'm doubtful over 20min shorts rumor, they are probably cutting costs, but not in that heavy manner. Just because Star Trek is basically half of what brings any viewers to CBS All Access. As side effect it ruins the brand even further.
