Not a Mary Sue.

He's the opposite of a mary sue. People think he's supposed to be special because of his blood type and he proves them wrong time and again. He has few friends and isn't unusually skilled in spite of alledgedly having greater inate ability than his peers. His story is about how he was tricked into foing terrible things and acting against his own interests and eventually being brutally dismembered because he started a fight he couldn't win. If you want a mary sue, it's fucking sidious. Absurdly powerful, immune to magical detection, beloved by everyone, including the people he hates most, pulls off bullshit plans because his enemies are inexplicably too dumb to see through them.

One thing that annoys me about Sidous (and Plagueis) is how they claim to hate lightsaber combat but are the best at it anyways.

Anakin had 3 fights and lost two of them. He was also not spiritually talented and intellectually, he was a retard.

Unlike Rey, he actually spent many years training to be a jedi. He didn't pick up a lightsaber for the first time and defeat a trained force user.

Dooku beats him, Obi-Wan beats him, Palpatine manipulates him, he is ambushed and captured by the Geonosians, he constantly gets into trouble because of his hotheadedness, he repeatedly fails to live up to Jedi standards.

i think somewhere it's said the only reason sheev uses a lightsaber is because it's a jedi weapon and he's defiling it by using it for the dark side

I think it was mentioned in the Plagueis novel. Heck, I don't think Plagueiis uses the sword, I think he used it once when entire clan got bumrushed and slaughter and he had to defend himself. He did quite badly and ended up as a cripple.

The force made the chosen one a retard, as a joke.

He used it against Darth Venamis, who specifically trained against his style.

He finally was able to beat Count Dooku after becoming a Jedi Knight, wow such a mary sue.

Personally one of my favorite scenes is how Obiwan, is screaming at his closest friend, who he raised as his son and who saved his life on 9 separate occasions, that he was leaving him to die painfully because he believed in democracy..... right after Anakin stopped the Jedi from instituting a theocratic coup in the middle of a war that would have not only executed the man the Senete elected procedureally; but have stripped the power from the legislative and judicial branches of government as well.

Apparently the Jedi belief in democracy didn't extend far enough to attempt a vote of "no confidence" in the then sitting prime minister, instead of attempting a military coup.

Kid Anakin from Phantom Menace was a bigger Mary sue. Building robots, best podracer, destroys droid ship by spinning and 'I wonder what this button does' bullshit, speaks multiple languages. Older anakan fucked up pretty hard for being an 8 year old prodigy.

they also became generals in a highly suspicious war and made no attempt to resolve it peacefully

More accurate to say that he was so desperate to save his wife from the terrible vision he had, the same type that he had previously ignored and cost his mothers life, that he acted on impluse to save someone the straw he was grasping at desperately in his time of emotional turmoil; and that decision had an unfortunate cascade that he didn't anticipate, or let alone desire, when he made that ill thought out and impulsive decision when he felt backed into a corner after he saved Palpatine from death.

Even TPM is debatable. Anakin is only allowed to succeed because Qui-gon stubbornly keeps pushing him forward against all odds. Everyone else is sceptical of the Anakin.

Well in all fairness; it was probably a tradition that the Jedi were following. Not sure if all the neat goods, and Jedi Temple, were funded through private donation or not; it they were from public funds then one of the requirements may have been that they serve as diplomats/generals for the republic in times of war. A sort of wizardry adjunct that managed itself; but accepted government funds with the understanding that certain services would be provided in exchange.
