it doesn't have any war scenes, the show is pretty low budget and focuses mostly on politics and intrigue. it's good because of the A++ writing, directing, and acting: it's the reason Claire Foy was in the Crown show before Olivia Coleman, and Mark Rylance did a bunch of movies including with Speilburg. Theoden (Bernard Hill) has a very, very memorable role.
it's based on 2 long books that both won the highest British lit prize, so the show covers a lot of ground in 6 episodes. I know overhype is a mistake on tv but it's probably what you want, to the point that it could make the Tudors look shit..
