He's a massive film nerd which works for Tarantino, but Jay lacks the 'tism that you need to be an artist making the type of kino he wants to.
What I don't understand is that comedic timing and editing of their half in the bag skits is usually really good.
But then when they try to do something legit like space cop it just ends up really cringe.
They know how to write, deliver and edit a joke, but they can't seem to apply it to anything serious.

Yeah film knowledge doesn’t necessarily equal talent. David Lynch has said many times that’s he’s not really film buff and doesn’t watch a lot of movies. It’s really just something he fell into from being a painter. It just takes a creative mind.
