Vector can only control Motorball as much as the audience and the betting market will accept. He can do the equivalent of stabbing a gladiator before throwing him into the ring, but he can't actually execute a victorious gladiator against the wishes of the audience (which includes Zalemites.)

Kinuba had won a game - he wasn't Final Champion. The Final Champion is no longer in the game at that point and out of Vector's hair. None of this indicates that the Final Champion goes to Zalem as bodyparts.
It's clearly established in the movie that motorball players can kill Vector too. That doesn't mean that every motorball player has killed Vector, or that killing Vector is how you become Final Champion - both because Vector is still alive, and because Alita doesn't become final champion by killing Vector.

To just cleanly state the argument, then: Grewishka and chiren were characters kishiro came up with because 60 minutes wasn't going to be enough time to do makaku or nova. Both follow just about identical arcs in the movie as they did in the OVA, as they're the main antagonists in the OVA, so the plot structure of the movie is just about identical to the OVA, with some more padding.

You said it yourself. The characters were added to make the story more self contained because it's an adaptation. Nova has to be present, but he can't be the main villain in this story. He has to be like the Emperor playing Vader from behind the curtains or else it he'll either get downplayed to a role similar to Vector or get shoehorned later on. That does not mean OVA = Movie because the movie is that much better and it's as faithful as a live action adaptation can get. The OVA straight out cuts entire chapters from the manga that are still present in the movie. How then can you argue that the movie is adapting the OVA when it ads back content from the manga that the OVA decided to remove? It seems to me like your issue is that Jim didn't just cut some frames directly from the manga, make it an animatic and call it a movie instead of turning it into a passion project.

It basically has to be entirely original content the way they've locked off all the manga plotlines. They can't do tuned, they can't do berserker zapan (as alita still has the berserker body at the end), they can't do secret of salem (chiren's brain), they can't even really do alita clones. At least not without coming up with a quick and dirty justification to do the same stuff for different reasons. Which they've proven they're willing to do in the movie.

Moviefags just don't get it. Vector was the villian in the anime but in the manga he's much harder to figure out. The main villain was always desty nova. HE created makaku (the character that was replaced by grewishka in the anime and the movie) In the manga vector is still alive to this day and he's sort-of a good guy.
