It won't, but I think you're using the terminology of legal immigrants to make the point that it's okay to keep illegal immigrants out. Lefties look at social issues of Mexico, and believe this is a refugee-type situation. They believe gangs/murders/etc. in Mexico are bad enough that families are fleeing to our country for safety. Righties believe that they should be coming in through legal means, and bring up their fear of dangerous people/drugs/guns/etc being brought in to the country. Both cases happen. The problem is the inability of either side to sympathize with the other's reasoning and look for mutually beneficial solutions.

But also to play Devil's advocate with you, A wall makes it way easier for locking people out (or in, I don't get why conservative conspiracy tards don't think the government's trying to prevent escape), for any number of reasons. And if it's ever decided that the wall is unnecessary, if borders ever change, if maintenance is required or if there are different means of illegal immigration found, it's going to be hella expensive to take it down.
