The entire point of the current DC films was that it was supposed to be director driven as opposed to Marvels producer driven MCU.
WB freaked out and started demanding shit and surprise surprise the films with the most executive meddling are the most soulless and shit (SS and JL).
The media keeps pushing for a Kevin Feige position for DC but in reality they just need someone to make a roadmap and get the executives to stop interfering with the bigger films.

I watched it yesterday and really enjoyed it as well, I've liked all three of the solo hero films from the DCEU since they're enjoyable and pretty inoffensive, BvS and JL are shitty though. In the case of Aquaman it probably helps that they didn't go overboard with the marketing which is why not as many people hated on it compared to others.
