The movie literally loses impact when watching on TV, and not on the biggest screen you can. Too bad IMAX and LieMax weren't really around much in 2009, this is probably how Avatar was meant to be seen too any anything short means a lesser experience.

3D is preferable because this is an ACTUAL 3D film. It's just IMAX was the best version, as expected for any theater going experience. I wish I had seen BR2049 in IMAX, doesn't make it lesser of a film that I only saw it on a huge enough screen.

I don't usually go to the theatre to watch a movie produced by Hollywood (last movie I watched in the theater was Broly and before that Heaven's Feel), and only watched Alita because of all that alita challenge comicsgate people were spamming in the tube. Really glad I watched it, it's one of those movies where you leave the cinema a different person. Going to watch it a 3rd time this weekend. Some guy was following Lucas's rules about making fan films (no profit) so he dumped $10,000 or something on his own personal passion project. When Disney took over they filed a copyright claim on his work and monetized it. The fans were so pissed that Lucasfilms had to step in and moderate for Disney, who caved and removed the claim.

One Youtuber made a fan movie about Vader. Every aspect was made by him and his team and no assets were borrowed from Disney. Disney sperged out, strongedarmed Youtube into giving them said movie and monetized it until Lucasfilm put a top to it.

Yeah, everyone was extremely pissed at Disney and some speculated they did it because they were worried a fan film was more in the spirit of Star Wars than their own movies.

I wouldn't go quite that far. I'd say it was a wake up. I haven't been affected by a movie since BR2049. Before that, the only movies I respected were There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men. All dark, all bitter movies. This has broken that nihilistic slumber. Film suddenly feels worthwhile again. I say that also as a 40k fan who generally leans towards excessively dark, hopeless settings. Alita/Rosa truly won me over. idgaf how gay it sounds. it's nice to be hopeful about something for once.

Generally, IMAX used to refer to the film format and presentation. It was an enormous 70mm film format used to present films, mostly documentaries, on enormous screens. Usually these were placed in science museums or the like, but now they're finding their way into all kinds of theaters and being used to promote any kind of big action movie.
