After seeing the movie so many times I'm beginning to notice the tone-deaf parts, specifically things that are supposed to be serious but end up being kinda comical. Things like robo-Hugo trying to leap over the defense ring and the dramatic music that plays as he's torn apart screaming. There's also Vector having Chiren dismembered and her parts put in jars, but it's treated as such a minor thing when it should be a big deal, as it's the only way people get to Zalem, and it's stated that Nova wants their brains for his project...also there's the comical way her eyes are able to move mechanically in the jar.
Still love the movie though.

I know a lot of people comment on the heart scene but I think it worked and it's a great example of modern filmmakers opting out of something like it because of the risk of cheesiness. Just saw it at the very final showing in my favorite theater and it was pretty good. I'm glad I gave it a chance. Certainly don't think it was amazing but I said I'd never watch it because I hated how Alita looked. She looked a lot better in the movie for sure but I don't know how some people said she didn't look noticeably cg at all. She looked extremely cg, but it was great cg.
