How do I become an actor?

If you don't have connections or know how to do acting, then learn how to act first of all and then try and get in on some minor local project.
If you have connections but don't know how to act ask for a minor/background/extra role.
If you have connections and know how to act then why would you ask us.

i always thought wouldnt you want an actor who can actually play the role instead of just letting them fuck or suck for it?
also no connections, but i can act. my skill set is small enough to start out but will need more training if i want the bigger more complex roles. i can do a cold reading from the script at an audition but coming to an audition prepared with a monologue seems really hard for me still

With no connections and average acting skills, a minor or extra role would probably be your best bet. Aim small at first, try to advertise yourself in any way you can to anyone that's planning to make a movie. There are 99 failed actors for every successfull one, just like there are 99 failed artists for every successfull one. Chances are you're gonna have it rough at the start, but as long as you cling to those roles you'll at least get somewhere. After that you just have to hope you'll get noticed.

Oh and maybe suck some dick too. Im kidding of course, but realistically you gotta smooch up to the bigwigs at one point if you're successfull so be prepared for that.

I hope you are decently attractive, OP. Most A-B listers are nice looking.
If youre just sort of OK facially, you might be able to land a small TV part with some decent acting skills.

Do you have any basic experience with making up stories or just playing pretend REALLY well? Like, when you were a kid?
Are you good at remembering things?
You'll need those skills to act. Thats how I got scouted.

thanks dude. i know you have to be kinda narccasist to be an actor but i dont want to boast about my looks. theres only one problem. what market should i try? la, nyc? its hard being or wanting to be an actor at home. my parents already hate it but watch actors all day i dont get it.

If you have the looks and confidence etc then just start going to auditions. You can try and worry about the craft etc by going to acting lessons but see what kind of feedback from auditions will teach you alot more than acting class and give you a feel for showbiz

LA is so crowded with people, NYC might be better, but they are both expensive places to live in. A lot of people end up living hand to mouth.
Do you have a secondary profession you do while you grind? Even a part-time thing would be good.
Chances are youll be at it for while if youre serious, and youll need a way to support yourself if youre in a major city.

Your parente are just worried about you. Its natural. Like the other user said- its hard to make it in the Arts and Theater/Film is part of that. They just want you to be able to succeed and not struggle so hard.

Anyways, most of what you need to know is in this thread already. i cant overstate enough to be ready for rejections at certain auditions. The stories about struggling actors are not overblown, there are many and they're not far inbetween. Fake it till you make it, and godspeed user. do you awantt to be an actor? or do you wantto be famouis? two very different things.

if you really love acting, audition for short films, student films, theater plays, etc. small stuff, and build your demo reel.

make a website or youtube.

now you are an actor.. after that you have to build up your social standing by becoming famous. This is where you have to network. meet the right people, and make the right friends that lead you to better auditions for bigger oles.

how you do that is mainly luck. lucky if you are in the right city, and lucky if the person you are networking with can actually lead you to better roles.

good luck user. I myself am trying to become an actor (famous kind) but I have to make my own films because no one really picks me. I've just done 1 short film but it sucks. at least it gave me an imdb credit lol I should really update that thing.
