Books on creativity techniques for filmmaking?

Some lateral thinking shit or some guidelines on how to write kino movies
for instance, True Detective s1 showed me how important it is to have all the supporting characters be strong as fuck, have a presence strong enough to carry the show on their own if needed. Look at the crab fisherman, the guy who broke down and told Rust to leave before he did something stupid, Charlie Lange, Reggie Ledoux, Ginger, all the detective cops, Quesada, Dewall who had just one fucking scene, everyone was fantastic.
I'm looking for more guidelines like that, some structure to the whole thing that doesn't end up restricting creative ideas.

kino thread but garbage board.

>needing to read someone else's ideas to be creative
I can already tell you that you should find something else to do with your time

you could read The Hero With 1,000 Faces

>le my blank mind will produce great art poster
fuck off my man and be silent, you simply dont have a clue on the topic.

Come now, I wouldn't have known the importance of fleshing out the minor characters had I not seen True Detective
it's just the little things like that that I'm seeking.

>books
>not going to films

That's why I asked about books specifically retard, on the odd chance there's a decent one out there that's got a lot of lateral thinking tips for films
like a book that says 'remember to flesh out your supporting and minor characters, no matter how minor, each one should be strong enough with a presence that can carry the show on their own'
you can't deny things like that are very important and unconventional.

Look at Nolan, a big guy 4u director like him fucks it up for the most part
>police captain from TDKR is utterly 2D and his death and journey was completely wasted
>Murph's brother/Cooper's son was completely WASTED, fuck this was such a disaster, he was totally ignored
>Michael Caine in Interstellar was reduced to the guy who sings the same poem all the time. Even Doyle's death felt flat
>Scarecrow was wasted in the TDKR movies, Bane's death was a shit sequence where he dies offscreen for fuck's sake.
imagine a guy like Nolan not knowing something as basic as this. Jesus

Thanks for reminding me of the fisherman. What a fantastic scene.

There's no one big book on constructing narratives, you have to watch good movies and think about them a lot.

Better than being purely unoriginal.

I'm positive that's all thanks to Fukunaga. Seasons 2 and 3 just pozzed things up, it's only in S1 that they focus on the whole world absolutely, it feels so good and REAL, in a word.

>the guy who broke down and told Rust to leave before he did something stupid
I always loved this because his kid died and it's strongly implied his wife killed herself, Rust completely understood where he was coming from and he left him alone, I didn't even catch this until my 3rd rewatch, I thought the dude was just having a breakdown and Rust just left because he didn't wanna get shot. Fucking brilliant

Screenplay - Field, Syd

Story: Substance, Structure, Style and the Principles of Screenwriting - Robert McKee

The Hero with a Thousand Faces - Joseph Campbell

On Film-making - Alexander Mackendrick

OP!! try "Pensar la pantalla" it's a book in spanish but you might find a translated copy.
Talks about resources and tools you might need to give you a vision of what exists in filmmaking. Therefore you'll find something you haven't seen yet.
Also, why the fuck would you be such a retard to ask something seriously in this cursed land? big Dumbfuck mistake but ok

Watch lots and lots of bad movies and look for good things and watch lots and lots of great movies and look for terrible things.

You never know who's online

bump

But on an unrelated note, the best thing you can do is get your camera and go. Honestly that's kind of what youtube is, a bunch of directors, producers and actors in their own shorts, so as a result if you just believe you're a director you'll be one OP =)

Oh and it's a good way to hang out with people you want to get to know more, just make them actors =)
