The beginning was cool. Not the worst Dracula film.
shouldnt be called dracula. it's a cool vampire flick but not dracula
kino
WINONA TIDDIES
excellent. was my dad's favorite (rip)
It's a 10/10 movie and one of Coppola's best. Except for Keanu's accent.
Kino
Also Monica belluci titties
coppola's last pretty good movie in almost every respect except for keanu
Very sexy very erotic film.
Ah yes, forgot her
My dad likes this movie as well. He even carved a pumpkin one halloween like the face of the stone gargoyle thing at the top of the poster. It turned out pretty good.
It's over-the-top and ridiculous in the best way, though it runs a little long. Visually it's just wonderful.
nice. watch a good movie w him 4 me
Hands down the best Dracula movie of all time. The most faithful iteration to the book while at the same time elevating everything in it to a dark fantasy.
can do
Might as well ask here instead of making a thread.
Have an idea for a short film about vampires who use dating apps to find preys. I dunno where to go with the idea though. The first couple minutes would be about two bros comparing girls and describing them as "tasty latina" or talking about how much they want to eat them out, then during the date the chad attacks the girl and is reveal he is a vampire to the audience. Not sure how to end it though. Like it could be comedic in nature but it then requires a punchline. If I shoot it with a serious tone, it would just be too on the nose in regards to being an analogy to a rape or something. I dunno. Any ideas?
It feels really excessive in a good way; it feels like a real film with lots of physical sets. You don’t see movies like it anymore.
i thought it was cool how they showed draculas influence on people by just existing. good shit
Why did you opt for male vamps looking for female prey rather than the other way around? Was it a conscious decision?
not really. both versions of nosferatu were better.
Lots of great surrealist shit. I’d imagine that everyone on set - designers, effects guys - really enjoyed making the movie.
Completely fucks up the story of Dracula but it's visually amazing.
>completely re-writes dracula into a romantic who wants his waifu back
It's nowhere near faithful
Umm sweetie, this is the BEST vampire film
10/10 costume work and Sadie Frost was a sexy cunt.
Because I will feel more comfortable directing two shirtless chads talking dirty than the reverse. Also it may appeal more to girls who are into vampires. Was thinking of making the girl victim a vampire hunter but then that would start getting silly and become a bigger production.
But I haven't really played much with the idea with the genders reversed so you may be onto something
It's good, not a classic by any stretch but solid Gothic Horror
>have a literal english mother
>can't do a good english accent
State of Keanu.
oops wrong pic
ummm
Have you seen the lost boys?
someone pls post winona milkies
By far and away the best Dracula film ever made, in colour at least.
LIEW-CY.... OH.....GOD...
One of the more accurate adaptations of the Dracula novel is a 1970s BBC mini-series. Or maybe it's a movie, I forget. It's really faithful but I don't think it's as good as the Coppola one. They don't portray Dracula at first as a old man with a mustache in the BBC one so even that is not 100%.
It's the best vampire film, period. Probably the best Hammer film although Curse of Frankenstein is really amazing
Herzog's Nosferatu has this great bleak atmosphere. Everything is just so grey and the apocalypse comes quiet like the plague, not with fire and hail.
Can anybody recommend me movies with a similar atmosphere? I liked Pulse a lot, The Road less so.
pros
>God-tier intro
>Oldman
>vampire brides
cons
>Too long
>early 90's edgy surrealist shit
>Keanu
wildcard
>Anthony Hopkins
I think your basic idea is pretty good, I'd avoid the vampire hunter idea. Depends how you play it, the idea of predatory tinder vampires needn't be comedic, but it needn't be an epic take down of white male misogynists either. You could also shoot it from the woman's perspective. I think you need some way of obviously signposting they're vampires rather than just having just having them attack whoever meets them.
>early 90's edgy surrealist shit
>con
Fuck off pleb
Also, I have the unpopular opinion that Anthony Hopkins is overrated. Especially his Hannibal Lecter.
For me, it's Twins of Evil.
Are you fucking retarded? It is the most faithful adaptation ever put to film.
Mostly shit.
Pure kino.
>completely change dracula's entire character
>faithful
Nah
reminder that Herzog's film exists, so there is no need for any other Dracula movie
>early 90s edgy surrealist shit
I get you. Coppola really goes nuts in the second half of the film, and unfortunately what could have been a masterpiece is held back by him taking one too expressionistic liberties.
It's a visually impeccable though, that's for sure. I wasn't even bothered by Keanu's supposedly terrible acting.
*one too many
don't make the fact that they're vampires a reveal. the set up to the joke is that they're vampires using a dating app. that should be up front. the punchline would be something like the girls never show or when they do the vampire creeps them out and they just leave.
best Dracula movie by far. Kinski's performance is ridiculous
just gave me an idea, maybe she does show up but when he goes to bite her she turns out to be a ghost. you know cause ghosting.
The movie is not faithful at all.
In the novels: Mina was not the reincarnation of Dracula's wife. She never really liked Dracula at all. Her opinion on him went to: "I hate this monster" to "he is so pathetic that I can't even hate him".
Dracula didn't love her either. He only wanted to turn her into a vampire out of spite.
You can see when someone is a pseud when they say they read the Dracula book and say that it is "a tragic love story between Dracula and Mina".
I'm not sure how anyone could read the book and come to the conclusion that they were in love either. Everything you say is correct.
I know where the bastard sleeps
Except Keanu being shoehorned in by producers, it's a great film. Also GOAT tier soundtrack.
Fun fact: There was talks leading up to the production of Jacksons LOTR that Wojciech Kilar would do the music.
>Fun fact
Kill yourself reddit nigger
Guess he isn't having fun
there u go, that's perfect
Ok, I will neck myself.
Pro tip: stop cyber bullying, Chad.
You need to learn to Live, Laugh, Love.
Why the fuck would Dracula have fillings on his teeth?
He's rich enough to afford sugar. He loves his sugar.
Nigger close your eyes.
There's nothing I can do
a total eclipse of the heart
>do I fit in yet
blood sugar
Because he has gingi-bite-is
What a pimp
My dad loves it too, mainly got Oldman.
>classic
Shit came out in 1992; it's already a classic
Good
Better
Best
Other worldly set design/production design. Keanu's accent is laughable trash.
*for
I know where the bahstahd sleeps. I brought him there. To Carfax Abeh.
What in the hell? This movie is like a dark parody of the book. It's not accurate in any way, especially Mina and Lucy's character.
Who is this?
Anyone else notice that this is a horror movie made by someone who had no interest in horror whatsoever? I'll write a big post about it if this thread is still here later.
Lysette Anthony from the movie Dracula: Dead but loving it
Lysette Anthony from Dracula Dead and Loving It.
>it's a Mel tackles a subject that he doesn't even enjoy parody
do it
He was interested in the art of horror from a cinematic and aesthetic standpoint.
It's not a horror movie, obviously. It's a romance story with horror elements in it.
Classic means more than just "movie that's been out a while" it means a movie that needs to be seen. It is not essential viewing except for Dracula completists and Winona Ryder waifufags
It's a master filmmaker making a tribute to classic horror cinema. Seems like the horrorfags don't like it because it's deliberately campy instead of taking itself super seriously like a B-movie.
The movie may be mostly forgotten outside of Yea Forums, but the pinball machine lives on in arcades around the world.
It had this cool thing where a ball would be carried across the playfield by a magnet hidden underneath, and you would have to hit the ball off the magnet before it hid itself again.
youtube.com
>It's a master filmmaker making a tribute to classic horror cinema.
He was a master in the 70s, then quickly lost his mojo. He was already washed up by the 90s
>Seems like the horrorfags don't like it because it's deliberately campy instead of taking itself super seriously like a B-movie.
Plenty of B-movies are tongue-in-cheek and deliberately campy. There are just better vampire movies out there, plain and simple
It's a must see movie for any fan of vampire movies user. It's easily Top 3. It's also pretty much the best vampire movie in terms of cinematography, acting and directing.
>bbbut Francis we need to use cgi for all these special effects
>*fires everyone and has his son use all practical effects*
Pure kino! CGI Mafia totally BTFO
Pinball machines are so cool but I'm terrible at the actual game. I can get the ball to travel directly in the middle of the paddles where they can't touch it a little too well.
Herzog's version is kino and aesthetically better, but Coppola's version is less orientalistic and more respectful in its treatment of Romanian history
>come at me /pol/fags
I disagree, thought Keanu was terrible and Winona wasn't much better. Oldman's performance carried the entire film. Directing and cinematography were good but overall I am not that impressed by the film.
>Oldman's performance carried the entire film
Hopkins and Elwes were pretty awesome too. And the guy in the mental asylum. But yeah, I agree about Keanu and Wynona.
>And the guy in the mental asylum
are you referring to musician turned character actor tom waits?
It's a real classic. Even the video mode is cool! Here's the vid: youtu.be
I have the solution to your problem, and it's called The Slap Save!
youtube.com
That's fucking Tom Waits dude.
>mfw i just realized it's him
i'm a fucking moron
Someone even recreated this flyer and built a real Bram Stoker's Dracula inside a coffin! Isn't that insane!
You can find pinball machines near you with
pinballmap.com
or pinside.com
if you live in a country not supported by the main map.
Soundtrack, set design and make-up was god-tier, visuals were beautiful, script was mediocre and the casting was awful - saying this as a Keanu defender.
Richard E Grant should have played Harker.
Still worth a watch.
Van Helsing and his crew were the best part.
Isn't that considered cheating? I guess that's the same as tilting?
Best OST for sure
youtube.com
It was over the top by design. Coppola was trying to be faithful to the vintage"over the top" melodrama
Don't post pics of pedophiles in this thread
Ive seen it yesterday, its endgame kinotapography
It's not cheating, my friend. In fact, it's indispensable! Basically, the game has a built in sensor that will kill the flippers in you nudge too hard, resulting in what's called a "tilt". Sometimes the sensor is set up relatively sensitive and sometimes it's not. Learning how to nudge effectively is one of the main skills of pinball. Even just giving the side of the machine a moderate slap is enough to sometimes save your ball. But remember, you're moving the machine around the ball, so you'll need to slap the right side of the machine to send your ball (relatively) to the right.
youtube.com
Have the dudes fly through an open window of a neighbor after with the seeming intent of attacking. Neighbor gets up after tense build up. Vampire says can I borrow a cup of blood?
When I say it's indispensable, that's actually a fib. I still have fun playing pinball without nudging, and it's not impossible by any means for a non-nudging player to beat a player who is nudging.
Coppola's Dracula was the biggest classical horror franchise. Could he have parodied slasher films? Yes but.... Meh.
The brilliant costume designer, Eiko Ishioka, also worked on The Cell. R.I.P.
>he fell for the orientalism meme
Yikes
>mojo
Perhaps but Coppola could still flex his experience in a genre exercise that showcased his considerable knowledge of film.
watching twixt will disabuse you of that idea real fucking quick
keywords being put to film.
giv vampire gf
>It is super inaccurate but it is slightly less inaccurate than other stuff
Just splitting hairs, something being 90 degrees off isn't that much better from something being 90 degrees off. Go check out the original novel and you will see this movie has very little to do with it other than the character names
twixt is...something.
has a few things going for it
>oldman
>tom waits
>costume design
That's about it.
It keeps all sorts of little details from the novel like Lucy's suitors and the use of voice recorders. And people complain about Van Helsing but he was always meant to be comic relief.
forgot about anthony hopkins in this!
actually thought he was pretty good. Van Helsing was supposed to be comic relief, after all.
i'm honestly surprised that someone hasn't done an extremely faithful adaptation. For being a 400 page Victorian novel, Dracula actually has a lot of zip.
You and I are on the same page
I kinda disagree, I thought it was pretty boring. Done accurately most of the movie would just be dialogue. You would have the ship scene be pretty cool, then maybe Lucy would be the next big fight, then some of the Renfield stuff and then the London fight and lastly the ending. Everything else would just be people talking about philosophy and psychology. While it would have been new then, this stuff has been done to death in movies at this point
Herzog's Nosferatu is the best dracula film. The Popol Vuh music is so haunting and the atmosphere is so masterfully handled. Kinski gave an incredible performance.
based old time perverted poster.
that's fair. i could see it done as a decent miniseries if you had a solid cast but as you said, it's kind of old-hat now.
Kniski is underdisccused here. His personal life is greentext worthy.
It's worth it for Keanu Reeves' scenes alone. One of the most grotesque performances ever captured on film.
they should have cast him as Dracula instead
>dracula is boring
Fuckin holds up better than most recent horror media
>SEE ME
>SEE ME NOW
Probably the very worst Keeanu Reeves has ever acted. It was saved by Hopkins and Oldman though.
>her tits in that Tales from the Crypt episode
HNNNNG
Which episode lad I want to beat meat but I don't want a porno you feel me
Forever Ambergris.
I didn't
Alright in some aspects but dramatically altered the plot. It's not Dracula at that point.
The best Dracula movie is Nosferatu for keeping the dire tone and the undeniable fact that the count was a monster. Next is probably the Lugosi version for having faith and the logical, proactive approach of Van Helsing actually work, true to the book.
Best Drac is Disco Drac
Best song from Drac:

Thanks lad
Kinoest OST in history
Reminder to see the 4k remaster.
>not a classic
Literally the top IMDB result and the Dracula everyone knows. Nobody outside of a retirement home cares about some dopey old black and white movie.
This is very similar to something I’ve been writing for a while. Mine is obviously better but I’ll never end up shooting it
kinda similar to a segment from tales from the hood 2
>Ty is driving with his friend Kahad for a date with two girls he hooked up with on Tinder. Wondering how he managed to get dates with such good looking girls Kahad asks what Ty told him; he admits to lying about them being an agent and casting director. When they arrive at the luxurious house, they assume the girls are trust fund babies and not aspiring actresses. They meet and party with Carmen and Liz for a while and have fun until Ty drugs the girls' drinks and they carry the unconscious girls upstairs. As they set up the scene to film themselves having sex with the girls, Kahad finds that the girls' bodies cannot be seen in the viewfinder. The girls reveal themselves to be vampires then chase and bite their attackers. When they finally wake up, they find themselves locked in a prison with other Internet predators who instead of being killed, have been turned. They beg to be let go, but the girls decline and let the turned predators go on the duo.
>The most faithful iteration to the book while at the same time elevating everything in it to a dark fantasy
It was second-rate as an adaptation. Mina's one of be few early stronk-womyn characters in early English fiction and it's not even cringy. The most suspenseful part of the book where they're hunting the fleeing Dracula is glossed over and turned into a dumb action chase scene. Coppola gets more wrong than he gets right but the movie is good because it was well executed.
