I really want this to be good, I really do. However, it seems too likely that Amazon will completely fuck up the lore for the sake of being "diverse" and "progressive". If this does happen, then any backlash from actual fans of the books will be dismissed as racism and will be made political. We've seen this several times already, and marketers know how effective it is in gaining publicity. Conflict sells, after all, and they'll have social media and Hollywood leftists on their side.

If Amazon does stay true to the books, and doesn't try to make it "diverse" and "progressive", then they will be the ones to come under fire for being racist or exclusionary.

So it seems that some form of backlash is inevitable, and Amazon will likely side with the "progressive" side, favoring profit over authenticity.

It's a piece of land that was made specifically to reward the descendants of the Édain, the humans who had helped the elves against Morgoth during the First Age, which ended in the decades-long War of Wrath that destroyed Beleriand, the land where they dwelt, now under the sea.

On Numénor, mankind reached its apex of longevity, knowledge and culture. Its partly inspired by Atlantis.

I don't know if there are detailed accounts of it, but presumably, the first stages of the war involved battles in a traditional format, i.e. elves, dwarves and men fighting orcs, men, dragons and beasts on Anfauglith and elsewhere. Then as the war lasted, populations of mortals probably started retreating and migrating east and south. By the end, the Valar and Maiar probably had an open chase with Morgoth and Balrogs, using much more destructive means akin to the means they had used to build the world in the first place.

Note that they couldn't even kill Morgoth, the best they could do was to banish him outside of Arda. I guess this is like cops trying to catch some big dudes in a department store, there will be lots of stuff to clean up afterward.

I love how in that map book its explained that for the mortals the world is spherical and they cant reach the land of the valar because its in a 'flat earth', so when they try to reach it they simply get to the other side of their own continent

Arda was flat prior to the third Age, and Valinor existed as a continent to the West of Middle Earth.
But after the downfall of Numenor, Valinor was removed from the world, and the seas were 'bent', meaning Arda became round.
Valinor now presumably exists on a separate plane to Arda, but still within it somehow.

Tolkien toward the end seems to have concluded that the world in fact was always round, and the reshaping was more of a myth to explain the removal of the Valar and company to outside Arda. Aman remains as a mundane continent — and that those who sailed to the undying lands got there by dying at sea.

Christopher has been remarkably constrained in not seeking to leave his own mark on his father's work.

It could be adapted. A lot of details and filling in the blanks would have to be done. Especially since there aren't enough PoC elves. The creation elements in the beginning would have to be CGI/animated. The budget would exceed GoT as well. Possible but financially unviable, likely.
