Harry was the #1 daddy

Not at all but judging by his past he could have been worse.

not at all
he was absent and estranged
it's not that he didn't care about his kids, it's that he did very little about it
plus, he only seemed to really love Sally. he admitted to feeling something for Bobby after that time he took him to the movies
and he barely even acknowledged Gene, except for that birthday of his
Ken is the one who seemed most worried about his son's sake, though. Pete also cared for his daughter, and tried to be there for her.

he was an alcoholic who thought love was getting a Hershey bar from a literal whore

what do you want?

No, he decided to party late and sleep with whores at night than spend time with his kids

No, he neglected to exorcise the ghost of his father in law from his youngest son.

I'll fucking fight you

Considering madmen is set the 60's yes, he was.

You would get an instant A+ rating just by not hitting your wife and kids regularly with you belt.

Holy fuck this is the most frankfurt thing i've ever read

Did he ever even TALK to his youngest kid?

This, pretty much. My dad was that Korean War generation just like Don... went in immediately after high school. Those guys were just distant. Never changed a diaper. I mean... basically Don married that Canadian ho just so he didn’t have to change Gene’s diapers.

I don’t know. Who cares?

No but the real question is was he a better parent than Betty?

Be honest, you wouldn't either.

that time when he asked him how lightbulbs work and he reflected on how he wasn't being a good father. Not like he did anything about it anyway.

If you compare him to Ken, Pete, or Ted, not very much.
I didn't think it was very bad until the episode when Sally caught him with Silvia. Instead of being honest, apologising to her or something like that, he tells her a childish lie about how he was "comforting her". He showed no respect for her daughter at that moment treating her like an idiot.

Crany was an idiot with no social skills. I bet he would browse Yea Forums.

i don't remember this at all

cunny

that was Bobby, his middle kid, not Gene
and he'd asked how lightbugs work, not lightbulbs
he and Bobby actually shared a couple of heartwarming moments in the two or three final seasons

Yes. He wanted his daughter to be better than he was. He cared about Sally. That was a big event for his character at the end. That other one not so much, but there was still time for him.

Betty made me hate women.

gene was a weird looking child. couldn't they find a less ugly kid?

yes, Don was absent, but Betty was just a terrible mom
dumb, cold, immature, impulsive, violent and abusive
it's like being raised by a preteen
Don's worst moment with his kids is when Sally caught him cheating on Megan
Betty hit Sally in the face for cutting her hair and constantly belittled and humiliated her children for the smallest things

pete's kid was even worse

He was rarely home and rarely did anything with his kids, but he did provide for them and the family never wanted for anything. All things considered you could do a lot worse as a father

he actually seemed like a better father in early seasons, as far as 60s parenting went
only became very absent after his marriage with Betty went to shit, but still made time for the kids

Don probably didnt even notice Betty replaced Bobby every now and again.

No but he was cool

>"Ken is the one who seemed most worried about his son's sake, though."
you're god damn right

4th bobby in pic related was best bobby by far
all others were just terrible and probably why he didn't show up a lot in the show before

For sure. They never aged bobby properly though. By the last season I think he was supposed to be 13. It would've been cool if we got to see what kind of person bobby was growing up to be like we got with Sally. I always wondered if Bobby was going to become just like Don as an adult

Good post

Bobby asking the hard questions

he was aight

Didn't his daughter develop daddy issues and fantasied about older businessmen when she was still a literal child though?

Are you referring to a certain scene that Yea Forums likes to post?

She actually turned out pretty well all things considered.

Genuinely surprised she ended the series a virgin.

she basically cried rape when glenn's friend got a little grabby

What the fuck even was that scene?

Also what happened to this little slut?

Why is it not consided abuse to dress children like this?

Well Sally was the only one that became old enough in the show for him to have a decent and mature conversation with and she matured to the point she understood the kind of person he was and in the end she accepted it and moved on.

The part where Don finds out about Betty's cancer and tries to get the kids and she tells him not to bother because her brothers need normalcy and that they were better off with Henry, it probably stung Don but it was the truth. If he had gone to get them the boys would just have been neglected.
