My sister asked this amongst many other questions on the ride back from the theater when we first watched it
Had to collect bugs
So did my best friend (male). What does it say about him?
It just means they don't understand the outdated concepts of loyalty, courage, and patriotism. Aubrey had these qualities in excess.
I don't know, I didn't watch the movie.
>muh honor muh loyalty
What's the point of all this if you die?
Honors and military glory.
He didn't know how to get back so he made up some shit about going after a ship or something
What's the point of not having any sort of concept of loyalty and courage or patriotism if you're going to die any day anyway?
to die upholding those virtues IS the point, life without doing so is not worth living or remembering.
toxic masculinity
he was an incel
you must be a woman
to be fair your notion of loyalty and honour is different from the 18th-19th century also, it was as alien a concept as it is in Samurai culture in many ways and wasn't adhered too out of virtue so much as it was required to survive at that time. You could be the best person alive but if you were poor, unmarried, crippled etc society would treat you like shit regardless. It was more about influence and looking the part for your families' esteem. Often very cowardly acts were defended on the grounds of honour or loyalty.
You're going to die anyway. He had a job to do, so he went and did it.
I don’t know
Who cares?
Back then, those things meant a lot to all hierarchies of society.
But now nobody appreciate those qualities anymore. Our materialistic culture has trained everyone to only think about wealth.
Our post-materialistic culture, user. Post-materialism is about wealth and pleasure. Materialism is the concept of living day to day, needing resources, surviving in a world where the basic measures of existence are scarce.
