wtf is this?
was the squat really necessary?
this part of the movie freaked me the fuck out because I've had nightmares that were pretty similar. An odd place, feeling weak, feeling an intense pressure that matches my every move.
>the big reveal was a shitty dubstep alien
me in the back
braaap'd to death.
Most of the movie was ok, but the ending is pure kino
my favorite part was when the protagonist cheated on her husband with a black guy
I like how in that scene the black dude is also cheating on his wife but is chastising her for not loving her husband and then he’s like I love my wife.
Lmao in a real situation that nigga would’ve had his balls in a vice with crazy Natalie blackmailing the shit out of him and ridiculing him not the other way around. Totally unrealistic
a lot of things about thid movie would be different in a real situation lmaaao
It was the requeriment to put it on netflix
stalker for millennial sjws
So were the aliens trying to replace the human race or not?
Based
Man that guy got brapped on way too hard
>watching hershlag paint the room
>sudden cut to interracial cuckolding scene
Ok Netflix.
I think it this is actually the truth. From what I remember in the book, the main character is an autist and doesn’t fuck anyone besides her husband. I also think she was Asian in the book
Stole the design from Under the Skin
bonus points for hubby trying to kill himself because of it
extra special Dante Must Die mode points for succeeding in a blaze of glory
>fit.webm
me on the right
>movie casts almost all females including lead
>doesn't make a huge deal about it, acts like it's just any other movie
>no hate campaign, utterly dies
Makes one think.
There are foundations that give grants, funding, etc to film studios if the studio meets certain requisites. Some of these requisites are: interracial marriage, having a racially diverse main cast, depicting lgbtqa+ characters in a positive light, depicting characters with mental and/or physical disabilities in a positive light (why do you think every movie has at least one amputee?).
Take it one step back and ask yourself: who operates these foundations, and why do they operate these foundations? What is their goal?
>*WWHHHHIIIRRRRR*
The shimmer is projected out by the walls of the hive, which is made up of many individual cells that work together to form a superorganism. Part of the wall is donated from the hive to form the doppelganger
fpbp
Name the foundations.
The British Film Institute.
>(why do you think every movie has at least one amputee?).
do they?
Its literally cosmic horror cancer.
nah nigga. humanity was like ants to that alien. it probably didn't even notice us until at the end
roadside picnic did it better
this part was incredible. real shame this movie wasn't nominated for anything
One thing I wondered - the woman who was played by Jennifer Jason Leigh had cancer when she went into the Shimmer. Everything inside the Shimmer is absorbed by it and becomes a part of it. It refracts everything into everything else. So would her cancer be refracted also? Wouldn't the Shimmer and everything inside it get cancer and die?
I loved this movie
It was royally fucked over in theaters for having that part too. The producers all told the director it was "too weird", especially with the lack of dialog for so long, and wanted him to change it. He wouldn't budge, so they only gave him a USA theatrical release and only for one month, then it went straight to Netflix worldwide.
I got to see it though, about one year ago exactly
Same desu
A lot of the visuals were fantastic, the half-plant aesthetic is both horrifying and beautiful
That fucking bear, jesus
>Take it one step back and ask yourself: who operates these foundations, and why do they operate these foundations? What is their goal?
obviously to keep you a virgin.
top kek it was garbage
I don't think so, it is likely naturally resilient to the ailments that it might attain from any organisms refracted inside its bubble, such as cancer, diseases and genetic disorders. The shimmer does not become the organisms it absorbs / refracts; more they become part of it, and also joining with everything else it's taken. It chose to destroy and absorb JJL's body instead of copying her like with the other(s) who'd made it to the lighthouse, presumably because her cancer made it pointless to duplicate her.
why is my Scorned Juden Detector going off?
It's already cancer. The symbolism was pretty heavy handed, life is cancer in a slowed down rate, not much would change.
I'd imagine it's constantly going off tbphwyf. Mental illness doesn't have an off switch.
>the movie was trash, but the ending was kino
Fixed
This
It was a poor man’s Stalker and those women characters were really stupid and made lots of dumb decisions. That and also the drama was drawn out and boring and the movie could’ve been better if they just got on with the story instead of slowing down to show us the ladies’ “acting”. Way too much wasted potential and time.
The shimmer is not intelligent. It doesn't decide, it doesn't want, it doesn't choose what it duplicates and what not. It just does.
it has NOTHING in common with stalker you goddamned cuckold
Cancer is basically already a shimmer within the human body.
It's weird, this scene was terrifying in theaters but watching it on YouTube makes it seem normal.
>this much COPE
Ok Alex Garland. It’s a totally unique film buddy. You’re the first to do it. There there.
The only thing they have in common is a group of people going into a weird place
Garland is a turbohack but he didn't rip off stalker
If anything it's closer to "the mist" in terms of themes, presentation and story
This was all kind of my point; the only difference between this & most of the other stronk womerns movies was the way it was marketed. It didn't invent any drummed up controversy over stronk vaginas in films & did horrendous moneywise as a result.
No, your point implied it was good enough to be meritable. STALKER for example does the same thing, but it merits being lauded because the actors, the design, and script were good. In this movie while it does the same thing as STALKER, the acting is mediocre, the design is cool but bogged down by cheap effects and sets (budget constraints), and the script is laughable at times with really silly and expositional dialogue and often times unrealistic.
So the reason why it didn’t do so well is because it wasn’t good enough. Simple as that.
JJL's character is heard talking about an "unfathomable mind" to something when Lena is walking up to her under the lighthouse.
The dopplegangers seem to be under the control of something intelligent while they are still forming, something that tries to study and imitate the person it is copying while also actively preventing them from leaving. Lena's doppelganger only was vulnerable to just being handed that live grenade and standing there with it because it was basically just being born right then, becoming independent from the control of the shimmer.
>No, your point implied
To you, because that's how you interpreted it.
Yet I clarify what the intent I had was & you continue to argue based off your mistaken interpretation. A curious trait.
>she has the face
horry shit
>STALKER for example does the same thing
>So the reason why it didn’t do so well is because it wasn’t good enough.
It got a bullshit cinematic release in America that nobody knew about, and then didn't get released on digital until like last month, on fucking Amazon. While it was dumped onto Netflix in Europe like a year ago. So anyone in America that wanted to see it pretty much HAD to steal it, which they could easily do.
It doesn't matter how "good" you think it was relative to fucking STALKER, it "didn't do well" because it "got absolutely fucked into oblivion by the distributors."
Same here, I watched it in midnight with all doors open+all lights turned off. Useally I don't get scared from media but this was terrifying
now post it with the music
I mean it does kinda show why having a bunch of mentally unstable bitchy women act like a military squad is doomed to fail. Really think the MC would have done much better if she went by herself. Heck didn't most the SF guys at least make it to the lighthouse? Least their skeletons
Lol we get it Alex Garland. Your movie is unique and totally not STALKER. Give it a rest.
The Leer Foundation
*DMT flashback intensifies*
Point out the similarities that aren't "people go to a weird place"
Because that's about ten thousand movies
>bonus points for hubby trying to kill himself because of it
>extra special Dante Must Die mode points for succeeding in a blaze of glory
fucking kek
this movie is so cucked. we're all doomed.
>alien
>is actually 1:1 humanoid with no hair and different skin tone
What the fuck is it even supposed to be
Seeing and hearing this in the theater was breathtaking.
i actually believe you but do you have any sauce on those claims?
>it’s not similar except for this one thing
Yeah I’m not playing that game with you Alex. Your movie is totally unique bud. Don’t worry. Everyone totally doesn’t think it’s a poor man’s STALKER. It totally failed because we’re misogynists uh huh.
How does it teleport?
Is that how not-Kane got into her house?
This unironically makes perfect sense
stole it from howard
>Dude Roadside Picnic lmao
Regardless of whether or not it's a Stalker ripoff we can all agree the soundtrack is Kino.
god i wish that were me
Her intense regret over that decision and the guilt she felt over the effect it had on her marriage as well as her husband's state of mind was the prime motivating factor in her volunteering for the suicide mission into the shimmer. She knew he would not have volunteered to go in himself if she had stayed faithful. The film did not portray either the affair or the black dude in a positive light at all
It's because of the shit your brain releases to paralyze you IRL while you're dreaming so you don't flail around in your bed
I want to shoot all Hollywood studios.
It would seem so. There is no other explanation for how he got there. Though when Lena's forming-doppelganger teleports to block her from leaving, it seems more to grow out of the fungus-like stuff all over the floor
ayy
user is...a hack fraud who namedrops midlevel artfilms to seem smart on the internet without having actually seen them and them having no relevance to the discussion!
he walked
Under the Skin was also a much better movie.
I liked it, though I'm a pleb and really like Alex Garland's body of work.
only memorable part of the movie. Bear thing is overrated.
>we can all agree the soundtrack is Kino.
Of course, Geoff Barrow from Portishead and Ben Salisbury did the soundtrack.
I thought the film was alright over all, but I don't know what they were thinking with that sound track.
What are you on about? This was the best part of the movie
Personally I thought that sequence toward the end would have been better without that music. But that's just my humble opinion.
>No Tower
>no moaning creature
>No crawler
>Husband dead
>Biologist combined with Surveyor
Yea Forums:
>CGI ENDING PURE KINO!!!!
Despicable
is it taking a shit?
you're probably the only person who thinks that
Ok. That's fine.
x-men: days of future past

for real it's so jarring and unnatural just like the entity it parallels so well.
That part had me glowed to the screen
Pure definition of memecore
movie fucking sucks

what did the alien mean by this ?
is the book good?
Why didn't they do any more with their memory loss besides one scene? Should have kept happening.
Why didn't the study team send one person or even a rat just ten feet in then back out and run a million tests?
Why not fly above and drop a daisy cutter on the lighthouse?
I didn't realize he was involved in Dredd, kind of makes sense. Fucker's an artfag
Yeah watching it now makes me want to do acid again.
>tfw took someone on a date to watch this almost exactly a month ago
>I had already seen the movie beforehand so I should have known I wouldn't be good date material but I agreed anyway
>should have taken them to see Game Night instead
He wrote 28 Days Later and Sunshine, and wrote/directed Ex Machina. I liked all of them.
*a year ago, pardon
I like sunshine too, fuck this guy is decent
I watched this towards the end of a molly and shrooms binge I had with my friends and that ending fucked me up more than anything else has
what movie is this?
>an imitation of a human
>is actually sort of similar to a human in shape
retarded cat poster
Tell us what happened, user.
